Hi Matt! Maybe you can help me with a question (being a Floridian). When you received your "certified" copy of marriage cert in FL, did yours have a state file number up at the top? I am trying to figure out if the one I pulled from the (Monroe) county records site will suffice for USCIS. Do you have a pic perhaps with personal information blurred? Any help appreciated! Thank you!

    @MattyUK

Hey I can't take a pic right now but don't worry my file number is blank too. However there is an Application Number which is filled in over on the left. Hope that helps.

  2. UPDATE

I managed to take my 21.5" iMac onboard my flight!  As of today there still has not been a laptop ban out of Europe.  But on the day I flew which was last week, the check-in staff didn't pay too much attention to my carry on luggage and once i got to security, it was scanned with no problems.  I was worried it wouldn't fit through the scanning machine but it did.  Once it went through, I was taken aside and asked to open it.  They then took out the computer from the case and rescanned it before swabbing it.  And that was it!  Once onboard it fitted in the overhead bin with no problems.  It was only jut small enough to fit but the Boeing 777-300ER's have very generous storage lockers.

    Happy Days!

A quick question now that you need to take along medical summary does it need to list every ailment or appointment you've had at Doctors

Noooo of course not. They don't care that you had a cold in 1995 and once caught your willy in your zipper.  But seriously, the summary that they produce will list any hospitalisations, and any ongoing medical conditions (high blood pressure, asthma, haemorrhoids) and that is it.  Mine had a list of 5 things, 2 sinus operations, a broken ankle, asthma and eczema.

    Nothing to worry about.

Just take it, but don't try to do it on top of another roll case and laptop bag.

Don't mention it at check in - as they will insist that you check it - and hope you don't get pinged at the gate by an over-zealous gate agent to gate check it.

Be prepared to pull it out at security, as the coils in the transformers and some other components can look highly suspect on some scans, so they will probably run swabs.

FYI I have taken an iMac (and bigger) as carry on....in coach too on occasion. Barring the odd argument (mainly with luftwaffe and US domestic carriers) generally no problems.

If they are ever checked in then they go in a peli-case so they actually survive.

Saying all this though, if the rumors are correct, this will all be a moo-point, as you wouldn't be able to take any computer at all in the cabin anyway.

Peli-case? Do they supply the peli case's or have them in the baggage holds? That sounds interesting as long as it gets there safely. I think it'll be fine on board. I'm being positive!

Sorry - my bad! I blame the late hour of my writing for the mistake :) It was actually three doses of "Td containing vaccines" for "adults with an unknown or incomplete history", which consists of "the first two doses administered at least 4 weeks apart and the third does 6 to 12 months after the second".

That's correct, basically you need a history of having 3 Tetanus in your lifetime thus far. Even if you had them when you were younger but can not prove it due to no record available, they say it is safe to have them again.

Thank you for writing all this! I am pretty nervous about this part too, so reading your experience was really helpful :) Just one quick question: what do you mean by a "medical summary from your GP"? Is that simply your vaccination record? I'm trying to get all my paperwork in order and just wanting to make sure I have all that they are wanting. Thanks!

A summary should just list any long term or ongoing medical ailments for example asthma or eczema, and also any hospital admissions. Mine listed 2 nasal surgeries and a broken ankle I suffered years ago.

    Thats it!

She said I have to have a total of 2 Tetanus jabs and a total of 3 MMR jabs, but as there wasn't time for that before my interview, she signed me off there and then and just advised me to get the next two jabs (the 3rd MMR should be done later in the year, she said) before I went to the US - mainly for monetary reasons.

3 MMR? As far as I'm aware MMR is a 2 part vaccine, the second being 4 weeks after the first.

I had my MMR jab done at my regular doctor free of charge on the morning of the medical examination. The nurse said this was fine and I have since had my second jab done at my doctors surgery.

If they waiver any vacinnation such as the second MMR shot due to insufficient time or whatever, they print an annotation on your visa with the code 212 (g) (2) (b). When the immigration officer sees this annotation he will see that a vaccination has been waivered. This will coincide with the medical report which will be enclosed in your sealed immigrant packet.

Does it fit in a standard roll-on carry on bag ? If yes, just put it in the bag and don't worry. If you plan on having a bag and and iMac, I would rethink that plan - in that case (and in case is too large) you may be told to check it in. I swear I remember an iMac coming out at baggage claim once - in a box of course (or it might have been just an iMac box with something else in it).

This is the soft padded case that will accommodate my 21.5 iMac. It's the height (stand) that I think is 4" over the limit (height).  I'm considering asking one of the flight attendants if it can be stowed on board the aircraft in one of the gallery's or something?  I can always check with them at the desk while checking in.

It's an all-in-one yes? You're going to have to review the dimensions for carry-on-luggage for your airline. Judging how large it would be and how heavy, it might fit in, but that might be all you could bring for your carry-on. Doubtful it would fit under the seat at all from experience. You may also be able to upgrade to 1st class where they may allow for extra carry-ons. Also consider one-way additional travel insurance coverage on electronics.

All electronic devices must be put through security removed out of their containers to go through the TSA scanners, the question I'd wonder about is if it would fit into the assigned bins?

First class from London? Sure! In fact I may just charter my own private jet!  I think I'm just gonna turn up at the airport on a wing and a prayer and hope it all goes well!  Thanks.

If your laptop isn't bigger than a standard size carry on suitcase, then you are fine ..

It's not a laptop it's an iMac which is a desktop computer.  Are you suggesting that a standard size suitcase is ok in an overhead locker?  I thought that'd be too big.  Saying that people push the limit in how much they can bring as carry on and the pieces get bigger and bigger!

  11. Hello everybody,

Has anybody ever flown with an iMac on a transatlantic flight?  I have a 21.5" model and want bring it as carry on (hand luggage) and place it in an overhead bin or beneath the seat if possible.  I'm a bit worried it will be too big but I'm flying on a 777-300ER which is a very modern plane with increased cabin overhead bins.  What would I do if they rejected it?  Will it pass through security ok, I mean it isn't battery operated.

Any experiences of travelling with this machine would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Depends when they print the visa. Check USCIS to see if it has been 'issued' and whether its being processed or has been printed. It will say. The London Embassy sent my passport and package back to me 4 days later but everywhere is different.

In any case, you've waited this long, why panic over when your passport will arrive? You'll get it when you get it, just thank God they approved you one to be begin with :)

Sorry I meant to say check CEAC (not USCIS) at this address to check on the status of your approved visa.

My wifes visa was just approved yesterday(May 3) here in CDJ Mex.  They all say"it takes two weeks" for your visa and documents to be mailed to the courier of your choosing.  We chose a DHL literally 10 minutes away so super close.  Does anyone know realistically the wait times?  And Can I pick it up before i even get my tracking number through email?  We have a 3 month old with us and we really need to be able to cross back and go home.  Thanks... anything helps, Idk how everything works here... like if I tip the DHL guy will he do a better job of "finding" her package??

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Aren't the vaccinations included in the medical cost? I know in the Philippines it is.

Not in London are you kidding. The medical facility that the US embassy sends you to in London is in the super rich area of Knightsbridge.  Luckily we have a national health service where you can get them for free before your medical thus saving you a ton of money.

i have a question regarding the vaccinations too. I've got a little booklet about the vaccinations i got. However, i didnt get any shots ever since i was a child so I'm thinking i might need new ones. Should i go to my doctor and get them already or will i receive the shots at the medical if needed?

If you'd prefer to pay extortionate prices for the same shots you can get for free at your doctor, then by all means wait till your medical. Forgive me, I didn't see where you're from but certainly in the UK we get those shots for free under the NHS.

Get them done at your doctors office mate :)
