Hey-
We just got home from our AOS interview. It went extremely well and the immigration officer said that we were approved pending FBI clearance. She said that his seems to be more common lately because they are scheduling the interviews so quickly in San Francisco. We filed 9/28/06 and had our interview 12/7/06.
SOOO...I am wondering if anyone else had this happend and typically how long is the wait.???
My interview was yesterday and I was told the same thing (I am also from Jamaica). He also told me that the problem may be that my name is too common in Jamaica (an understatement
) Anyway, I hope we both get clearance soon.
By the way, I have seen your husband's artwork and it is AMAZING!!!
Sorry to hear about his son. Everything will work out.
SherMike.

Overall, it was a piece of cake....the interviewer was a really nice African-American lady with dreads.......
She made us feel really comfortable.....looked at our wedding photo albums and admired Duane's art. She wanted to give us a link to her friedn that owns a gallery in the city but she said that it may be viewed as unethical so she woudl wait until the approval came in the mail. She said she woudl keep a watch out on our file and send me an e-mail once it cleared.
As for the EAD...she also said that she would call the office to locate our EAD and make sure it gets to us approved in the next week or so.........
So...I hope eveyone has a great day and I will try to stay in touch more often!!!

I asked about AP, he said not to bother because "I will apply today and the card will come 2 days later!" (I hope so!).
wow - thats interesting. suggesting you *not* apply for AP due to possibly receiving gc shortly. There is no way he could know how long this part of the process can take. Certainly apply for it if you feel you may need it in the future.
Sounds to me like the namecheck was back from the FBI and it was laying on his bosses desk for final approval.
Notice that the AO removed the I94.......
Do they do this? I have no idea of the process.

That's what I thought too but I have no immediate plans to go overseas so I will wait. He also told me not to move because the AR-11 process does not work too well. I will wait the 90 days then if I don't receive it I will start to worry. He actually told me that the problem may be with Jamaica not sending it back timely. My brother's mother-in-law works in government and was the Prime Minister's (like the president) personal assistant before she got elected to her post. I may ask for help there if I need to and if she can help.
We will see how it goes. For now I just wait.

Congratulations (so far) and here's hoping for a speedy name check
Thanks. By the way this site was INVALUABLE. I didn't ask a lot of questions but I read a lot.

The card came in the mail today, and it has some green on it at least! As well as a bizarre gold thing on the back. Card expires Nov 29th, 2016 so I've got a while before I have to worry about USCIS again.
Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way on here. I hope I have also helped people on here still on their journey too.
To those who are waiting for their green cards, good luck and have patience. I know what its like to wait, I once was stuck in the USA waiting for visa approval for 2 1/2 years. I lost 2 grandparents in that time as well, so I know how much it sucks to be stuck in USCIS limbo. I feel for all you guys and hope that you'll get approved soon.
However, I'm extremely happy that now I have full freedom to leave and re-enter the USA. My journey ends here. Next stop: Citizenship.
As you can tell I'm a bit happy right now.
A HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!!!!!!!!

I had my inter view today. It was scheduled for 11:15pm but we got called at approximately 12:30pm. We were the last one to be called in the waiting room. Our AO was male probably in his early 50's and he was extremely pleasant.
We had to swear in and show ID's. He asked the following questions:
How did we meet? How long after did we go on a date? Any proof of relationship? (bank statements (3), health insurance, car insurance, 401K statement). He asked to see DL and we showed him both. Mine was from my old address in Georgia. He asked if I never got pulled over in Connecticut and I said, "No. I am a good driver.' He said that I could change my DL now, I told him no because we want to move to Ga as soon as this process is over. He asked why and my hubby told about the disparity in the standard of living between the two states. He laughed and we started to talk about the housing bubble. He didn't ask to see pictures but I showed him then anyway (afterall I had brought them). He asked if I worked with paper in my day job because I have a lot of documentation. I do. He asked if I finished college (I was orginally F1). I did.
Finally the dreaded statement, "Everthing is great but I cannot approve you today because your backgroud check has not yet cleared.'
 He said he was going to check the computer again to see if it did. It didn't. He said that I am done for now and once that is cleared I should get the Welcome notice and GC in the mail. He then told me about the Conditional GC and the process to remove the conditions. I said that I did read all that. He said, "I am going to get you some application forms so that you can work here...you probably earn more than this job pays though." I said that I would prefer the job stability and he agreed. He took my I-94 but not my EAD. I asked about AP, he said not to bother because "I will apply today and the card will come 2 days later!" (I hope so!). He said enjoy your holidays and that was that.
He did not ask for tax transcripts, pictures, job letter, pay stubs.
All in all, it was waaaaayyyyyy better than I thought it would be. The AO was jovial and the interview was very relaxed and friendly. I hope my name check clears soon!

Speaking of Christmas trees.....I use to decorate ours (back in my single days) with two colors every year. Yes, I'm plain and boring.
Last year Damien wanted to be in charge of the Christmas tree decorations. He was so excited because he never had a Christmas tree in JA. He brought EVERY multi-colored ornaments, flashing light bulbs, etc
We couldn't see the green on the tree and it was leaning over because the decorations were too heavy. I couldn't look at it because it made me dizzy
It was a horrible sight but his smile was priceless
.
Well yesterday he wanted to buy a pre-lit Christmas palm tree
He wants to decorate it more and put it in our bedroom
He also wanted to buy more decorations for the regular Christmas tree. He become really upset when I asked if he can tone it down this year. So I'll be wearing sunglasses in our house
I lurk around here a lot.
This is the funniest post I have read in a while!!!!!!

I moved to Ct 3 years ago and the best thing to happen is that I met Mike. I hate the weather... its so expensive. Where in Ga are you?
I live in CT and I am beginning to hate the winters here. I used to like it but now that I have to commute a longer distance to work I dream of relocating to state with moderate winters. And it is sooo expensive to live here. But I guess everything is relative; the salaries generally tend to be higher.
That's not quite true. My friend recently moved down and she makes the same as she was here. In fact, we are in the same line of work (Financial Analyst) and most of the jobs I have applied for so far is for the same amount or more. I can't wait to find a job! I like my job here but the weather and the cost of living is way too high.
I guess it depends on your line of work. I have a few relatives and friends that relocated there and all are paid less in their profession in metro Atlanta than they were here (teachers and healthcare); except for the two that were able to take their salaries with them. One is a manager in Marietta(insurance) and she said that her employees in Atlanta are paid less than her employees in CT. My new manager is from Lawrenceville and she said that she makes a lot more here than she had in Georgia.
I think a lot depends on where you're working too. The gold coast in CT (Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield Co. etc) employers tend to pay a lot more but look at the housing costs there
Best wishes on your job search.
Thanks a lot!
When I moved here 3 years I got a $15K raise...for no other reason but the move. Presently, I am up a lot more than that and I still cannot afford to buy a house! I hope I get a job soon

A letter from employer is unnecessary in your case.
A letter from bank, past 3 years tax returns or report of commercial rating concern.
See instructions included with the form, Part II, A, C, and D if needed.
Actually you should be looking at the instructions for the I-864 instead.
I will look at that too. Thank you so much!

PLEASE HELP!!!
My husband is the USC and he is self employed. What do we do about the 'employment letter'? We have our interview on December 6, 2006.
Thanks,
SherMike
I am self employed and indicated such on the forms, but got an RFE for it. They wanted more including an employment letter. I wrote a letter to explain my self employment and sent documents from my accountant. If you already have an interview date I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Thanks a lot!!!! That was quick!!!

Okay so far I have been working on getting my documents together b4 it get to the last minute. Here is what have tell me what Im missing
1. Tax return filed together
2.House phone bill
3. Bank account together with my husband as primary
4. Health & dental coverage together
5.Lease
6. Cable bill
7. Magazine subscription
8.Letter addressed to both of us from Landlord advising us to renew our lease
9. A few pictures no wedding pics
Other than that our utilities company has fused to have both our names on the bill because they say their computers can only allow 1 persons name. "RIDICULOUS"
For out health insuarance the cards are ony made under the card holders name so what do I need to bring to show we r both covered? You think an EOB would work???
I have my interview on Dec 6 and I will be taking the printout from my company's benefit's website that shows the information.

Yes you can have a positive skin test and a normal chest x-ray. The chest x-ray will show there is not TB present.
This happened where I worked when we were registering undergraduate students into a summer internship program and if they had a positive TB skin test they had to do a chest x-ray. It happens to some people.
Thank you Darlene. Good luck with your interview.
I don't have a definitive answer but....I can only assume that if you test positive for TB they won't let you into the country.....you're suppose to be quarantined until it's under control. I know a woman in my area tested positive for TB recently and she refused to get medical attention for it -- the state made her stay in her house until she <finally> agreed to get help.Did you check on the USCIS website?
Mindy:
I am in the country already. I had a positive skin reaction and my chest xray is normal (No TB).
AOS interview successful, but waiting for FBI name check
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas

My AO actually told me that it was the international check that was causing the delay in my name check clearance.
