  1. Hello my question is when a k1 adjust to permanent resident does the green card expire at 2 year anniversary of the marriage or two years after the date the green card is issued?

Later on how does that affect the citizenship process? Is the k1 able to apply for citizenship 3 years after marriage, or 3 years after the conditional green card is issued, or 3 years after they receive the permanent green card?

  2. Update so I called NVC last Monday and e-mailed them the weekend when I orginally made the post which they call me last Monday. Apparently my case was selected for administrative processing. They said it was completely normal and no additional information needed. It was frustrating to me as we don't have anything that is normally considered red flags we are one year apart, both of us have no kids and never married before, we meet for the 1st time in person, and I have flown to seen him 10 times over our two year relationship with plane ticket proofs.

Today just check the status and we are ready for the interview. I'm so happy.

  3. We went on the state website and they have a put in embassy drop down menu and you get all the steps. https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/KNG - Kingston.pdf  Nothing on the USIC or State site says anything about sending forms to NVC and reading others post on the NVC it seemed the NVC would send the stuff quickly. So we thought  it was no harm in proceeding once I got the case number from NVC as we thought the case would be sent to the embassy in a few days.

Never ever book expensive venues when you're waiting for something like a visa. Anything could go wrong, even if you pass the interview you could get stuck in administrative processing for any reason. And as you're finding out, sometimes they get things mixed up and don't send things to where they're supposed to go. I had an idea of when I'd be in the US too but ended up there about 4 months later due to processing delays.

You may need to contact the venue and see what if anything can be done, depending on the outcome of your call with the NVC on Monday.

We are learning. We are getting married in a catholic church and we can't get married again if we are already married. So we couldn't get married in the courthouse and then plan a big wedding. So here we are with a big wedding next month and no fiance. I'm praying that when we call the NVC our stuff can be sent and we can still attend the scheduled interview or only have it delayed a week.

Did the fiancé get any info at all from the embassy? You shouldn't have been able to schedule if they didn't have the case.

At NVC is what mine said too for a while. It depends on how quickly after it's "ready" you have your interview. If it sits and waits for a while (not sure how long exactly)  it'll go to "at NVC" while awaiting the embassy response.

Nope neither of us have received anything. When we did the ds-160 and paid the interview application fee I used the case number that NVC gave me over the phone. For the medical they wanted his appointment confirmation page.

  6. OP here. Thanks for all the responses. I posted here as the NVC is closed on weekends and our appointment is this week. I am flying to attend the visa interview with my fiance. I got the case number, invoice number etc. last month when I called NVC

What I am confused about is us being listed in the immigrant visa side and saying we have six steps to take before an interview. According to other posts I read it seems that NVC just forwards the application to the embassy in days. NVC received our application 6 weeks ago. I called and got our case number a month ago. Why is it taking so long to send to the embassy? We went and scheduled the appointment for 7 weeks after NVC received our application thinking by our appointment time everything would be ready to go at the embassy.

  7. Hello, its been 6 weeks since I called and got my case number from the NVC. Our case is still at the NVC and has not been sent to the embassy yet. When I check the status of the case it says immigrant visa and talks about 6 steps need to take. I thought with the k-1 fiance visa the case is just forwarded to the embassy what are these 6 steps. Help please. We already schedule fiance interview for this week hoping that by 7 weeks the embassy would have received everything by now.

It is logged at the NVC as an immigrant visa but it isn't processed there. K1 is a dual intent visa. You are supposed to schedule at the embassy but upon scheduling it asks you to not go any further unless you have received furter instructions from the embassy.

Our case is still at nvc after 6 weeks and not in transit. The sites still talks about 6 steps. What are we to do to get our case sent to the embassy?

  9. Hello,

Last month I called the NVC and received our case number. Since I had the case number my fiance completed his ds-160 and has gotten his medical and police record. We scheduled his interview this week online. I check on the Department of State Tracker website and it says our case is at the NVC and there are 6 steps needed before NVC can schedule his interview.

I never received a letter or email from the NVC and neither has my fiance. We thought that the fiance schedules the visa interview and not NVC and NVC just mails the approved petition to the embassy

Please help!!! We are lost and confused. Were we supposed to schedule an interview at the Jamaica embassy? What documents are needed to submit to NVC
