Good.  Then read the I-864 instructions as to what other documentation would be needed for Mom and Dad's financial package, then ask questions about what is not clear to you.

I won't be coming back. You've made me feel like a big enough moocher lazy good for nothing already. I just throw some papers together like I did for my initial packet and hope for the best.

I can't count the number of such posts as the above, nor the much larger number of thank you's for offering real help here.  Perhaps there's a part of "do it yourself" you have yet to understand.  Going through this process tends to teach that.  The people "helping" you are able to do so because THEY/WE already did our homework, enough to know that if you don't do yours, our help is minimal. Once you've read the instructions, despite the insults, I and others will still be here to answer remaining questions.

I've been trying to do this for a few months. Maybe it's easy for you, it hasn't been for me. Sorry again to ask spur of the moment questions after getting your reply. I've been studying all day!

The amazing thing about DIY forums is that the answers to your questions really does lie in the I-864 instructions and in other posts on this forum.  We really try to encourage people to learn for themselves vs holding hands. It's the whole give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish idea. If you wanted someone to do it for you, a lawyer probably would have been a good investment.

If I were to do this again, I'd definitely use a lawyer.

    Questions for you:

how does a tax return show proof of current and ongoing income?

    (1) I'm not sure. My proof of current income I used was a statement from current employer, and my contract which states current salary and ending date.

Does it say on a tax return that they are LPR or USC?

    (2) I'm unsure what these acronyms mean. But I've filled under the foreign income tax exclusion.

Those are things you need to send with a joint sponsor.

I have sent from my current address in ho chi Minh, a complete packet including all docs for myself and my wife to my parents in the USA. They were going to post it from their address to the nvc.   All I'm asking, if it isn't too much trouble, is what admendments I would make my completely finished packet, if I were to suddenly get advice to send in a joint sponsor i864 at the same time.

Tax transcript will show their relationship to each other which satisfies the requirement of a joint sponsor and their household member which is how your parents would be helping you with sponsorship.

They have requested tax transcripts already. My current plan is to do an i864 for my mom, and then an i864a for my dad as they file taxes jointly.

I AM helping.  The problem with curing "not knowing" by just asking the questions you can think of, is that you don't KNOW what it is you DON'T know.  Somebody else already typed the instructions for you to read.  Why should we try to guess which of them to re-type for you.  Get a clue.

Expressing condescension through text is impressive. You sound like a delightful person. Im trying my best to sort through this  I apologise for asking questions on this forum  Thanks for the help.

Did you include assets on the I-864 with your income?  About $100k in easily accessible (and very liquid) assets will probably overcome the requirement to show continuing income or have a joint sponsor.

I don't really have any assets.  Some property, and some savings(about 50 k), but nothing else.  I'll definitely need a joint sponsor.  Thanks for the ideas though.

For your additional questions, you'll be well advised to study those I-864 "INSTRUCTIONS".  Doing so will be critical to your ultimate success.  Your questions make it clear you are not nearly familiar enough with the form itself, much less the instructions for its use.

I'll be advised my whom to study those i-864 instructions.  Never mind.  You seem to just want to point out short comings instead of helping.  Thanks anyway I guess.

  7. Follow up question....

On my i864 as the primary sponsor, in part 5 question 7, "Optional, if you have siblings, parents, or adult children.....combining their income with yours enter number here"

Initially I put "0" here because I wasn't going to use a joint sponsor, because I currently meet in the income requirement, but that income will stop in Feb 2019.  If I am going to use my mom as a co sponsor, will I input 1 here.  I'm wondering about the i864a statement.  I thought my mom would submit a normal i864.  Do i need to update my original i864 to include new info about a joint sponsor, or do i just include with my i864, and additional i864 from my mom.

  8. Follow up question, my parents have yet to post my packet from my permanent address in the US, so I can still add their paperwork with it.  So I will fill out the i864 for them and send it along with my packet.  Do they only need to submit tax returns/transcipts as proof of income.  They are 3-4x over the income requirements. Do they also need to submit their civil docs as well?  Passport/DL/etc?

If your income will not continue from the same source when you get to the US, you should have stated your current income as $0. and sent the affidavit from the joint sponsor at the same time as your affidavit.

Become an A-Student of the I-864 instructions and interpret literally, particularly the words "are using".  Since you cannot use your income from a source that won't continue, you will be "using" an income of $0.  Words mean things.  Read carefully, interpret literally (not conveniently) and answer accurately.

NVC may or may not "notice" but the Consulate definitely WILL notice.

If it gets to the consulate before being noticed, could I, or rather my wife, have another signed affidavit of support from my parents with the appropriate supporting docs in hand for the interview without them having to ask us to return for another visit?  Thanks for the replies guys.

  10. I've just submitted my i 864 packet to the NVC with my wife's docs and my supporting docs.  I've submitted proof of income until the end of my current contract Feb 2019 but after that I will be unemployed and looking for work when I move back to the states permanently.  I assume they will notice this and will ask me to have a joint sponsor, which my parents are happy to do. I'd like to go ahead and  start getting those docs ready to send in as soon as they are requested, just in case.  Does anyone know exactly what docs I will need?  Will it be the same as my i864 packet, or one of the other versions of the form.  TIA
