Your engagement ring represents a true relationship of plans to marry. It is traditional to have an engagement ring prior to getting married. That will actually show proof that he is serious.

It's an engagement ring... you can wear it whenever technically, or don't have to wear it at all....
I have a feeling some would say don't wear it at all as it may come across as a wedding ring.
