    UPDATE ON MY FATHER'S CASE: Medical appointment was requested on November 27, 2019. A few days later in December, he was seen by an authorized provider in Asheville, NC. This visit was to check his medical history, vaccine records, and he got his blood drawn for a TB test. All was completed and the provider mailed me the results within a week. Then, I mailed it to the designated USCIS office.

    On January 8, 2020; we received a text message notifying of approval and that his resident card was going to be issued sooner. That was a surprise because we were expecting an interview appointment, not the card yet. However, his card was mailed on January 15 and will expire in ten years. It took almost a year and two months.

     

    Sorry I didn't update this on time, but it's been really hectic here (I work for the local health department). Thanks to you guys for advice and good luck to the ones that are still struggling with their applications. Stay safe.

    Well, updating information about my father's case:

     

    I sent forms and documentation required on Nov. 26. to the Chicago Lockbox. Documents were delivered on Nov. 28th by UPS.

     

    Then, on Dec. 3rd, I got texted saying they received the cases  (I-130, I-485, I-765, and I-131).

     

    Check was cashed on Dec. 4th.

     

    On Dec. 7th, I received I-797 (notice of receipt) for each case.

     

    Finally, on Thu. (Dec. 13), I got a letter with biometrics appt. for 12/25 at Greer, SC.

     

    I really don't know how long will this take, but I was checking on the USCIS tools and it says thsi coudl take from 4 up to 77 months. I will let you know how this goes.

    Sorry for delay. Yes, I think you don't need it, since husbands don't change name here after getting married.

    I am getting ready to file my father's paperwork too. My father is also a widower and I will attach my mom's death certificate, because there some questions about the date of marriage termination. I guess when my mom died, that is considered as the date of marriage termination.

    Then, I am also attaching my marriage certificate because on Form I-130 Part 2, they ask for your spouse's name.

    I-864 for parents: do I need a I-864A?

    2. You would need to be the primary sponsor no matter what, but you can use an I-864A with your spouse to include their income/assets. In some cases the intending immigrant's income can be included...check the I-864 instructions for details.
    3. The process will take a little over a year on average. He cannot enter with intent to AOS, though (that's fraud...going back to #1). He will apply for an IR-5 visa after the petition is approved and NVC processing completes.

    Hi, I am trying to collect some tips about bringing parents to the U.S.

    My father has a visitor visa and he comes once or twice a year to visit us and also some relatives he has in Canada. As my mother has passed away many years ago, I would like him to come live with me and my family. Some questions I have are:

    1. If I ask for him, would he loss his USA visitor visa during the process?
    2. I am not working yet, can my husband be the main sponsor? Can we attach my father's retirement pension to the application?
    3. How long would it take the petition and adjustment of status process?

    Thank you if any of you can help me providing some advise.

    Hi!! Just to update and say Thank You guys!!!!!

    I became a citizen yesterday at USCIS Charlotte, NC in a very nice Oath ceremony.

    Now, it is time to start applying for passport and update SSN in 10 business days.

    It's been a pleasure to join the group and I wish you all GREAT GOOD LUCK!!!!

    Hi Zombie69,

    I am sorry to hear that your husband is in critical condition. I understand your frustration, your interview was for N400, I would think that it should be added to the I751. However, if it won't I hope they will understand the situation and help with expedite solicitation. Did you bring evidence of that IRS payment? Or, at least he mentioned how to send it promptly?

    Hi guys, just to let you know that I passed the interview on Tuesday.

    The officer was very nice and he actually offered me to have the Oath ceremony today (Thu. 22) at 9:30AM. But, I live three hours away from the USCIS Charlotte NC office and it was my husband who drove me there. We couldn't stay neither ask for another day-off in the same week without previous notice in our respective jobs. So, yesterday the USCIS app updated and it says: "Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled".

    I will update information when ceremony is scheduled.

    Hello,

    I know this is a different topic, but I would like to ask if somebody has received an email from VisaJourney yesterday saying that account has been locked due to many failed attempts to log in from an unknown device and different location. It happened to me last night and apparently, somebody was trying to get into my account from Michigan. I was suggested to change my password for security reasons. But I was wondering if there was a breach or if that was a phishing email.

    Hi there! I had fingerprints today in Greer, SC. One hour and a half driving from home but it was worth. Appointment was at 10am and we were about six or seven persons, not a long wait. In my case, they took a picture, signature and just right hand fingerprints because the system identified me as soon as the officer sent the information. Left hand and thumbs were not necessary. Also, they gave me a study guide for the history and civics exam.

    There was an Oath of Allegiance ceremony in the same location at 10am. I also know that ceremonies are more often lately because this year many long-term residents are filling for citizenship. A friend that has been living in the U.S. for about 30 years as a resident filled on March, passed her interview last Monday and will attend ceremony on Sep. 18th at Carl Sandburg Museum in Flat Rock, NC.

    I'll keep you posted as soon as I get the next appointment.

    On Tuesday I was told that I should send a letter to clarify what was happening. Also, they filed the Request of Service, which takes a month just to be seen and then attended. As I already had the InfoPass appointment for this week, I will go and talk to an officer taking all my papers to see if there is something to do before Biometrics expire. Finally, I was told that I can file a complaint. 

    I still believe they really do not care.

    Yes, it is a service request. Now, we are thinking about sending the two pages they are asking for and in our InfoPass appointment on May 24th, take all our papers and form copies to talk with an officer.

    i really do not know if I can ask to talk with an officer when calling to USCIS.

    Well, I called them and after a long conversation and wait until they could finally understand the situation, Inwas told that I need to call back and ask for a ticket so they can check my file and solve it. 

    Funny thing is that their system

    was not working and I have to call again tomorrow.

    This is so frustrating!
