  1. If you are already married now AND your government states that you were NOT married before, AND there is no documentation of a previous marriage, as you say, then I would not raise the issue at the interview. I'm sure that most of us could raise issues about our past lives that would open up a whole new set of problems. It is not like we are trying to hide anything, but, why create problems when it is not called for? However, if you are asked, then you must tell the truth. If you lie, they will catch you. I believe the worst that could happen is having the VO ask a question about your previous marriage. You answer truthfully. The VO may have you return with some kind of proof, whether in a form of a letter, or other documentation, to overcome the denial. That is, in my opinion, the worst case scenario. If the question never comes up, then you are home free. Of course you could alway prepare some kind of notorized proof and bring it with you just in case the issue comes up. These are only my opinions. Others may have other ideas. Good luck.

I also agree with iamrok above. If this previous marriage is legitimate, and there is possibly some documentation laying around somewhere, then don't try to sneak it through at the interview. Cover your bases before you go. Possibly try to reschedule the interview if you need more time. ;)

  2. I received the letter from the NVC that gave me my new case number. Blah blah.

Will I, the petitioner, receive any sort of notification when the petition is forwarded onto the consulate?

I'm asking as my fiancé a) lives on a farm in the middle of West Nowhere, Alberta, and B) works out of town for weeks at a time. So I basically need to know when I should tell him to start keeping his eyes open for it and arranging for someone to get the mail out of the country mailbox.

No, you will have to call NVC for the date it was sent. You can also email them and they will email back telling you when it was sent.

  3. Today I received my petition approval by mail. On October 4 my RFE for the old form was received by CSC, I had quite a few touches since then but there is no update on the USCIS website and I didn't receive any emails since the RFE receipt. When I got home from work today, the hard copy was in the mail. The thing is that this process has been so frustrating I don't even know if I feel happy about it but I'm guess I'm that much closer to reaching the goal. Just for others who are crazy with the waiting......hope they sent out approvals for everyone on October 12!!

I know what you mean. After waiting so long, it sort of takes the excitement out of it. But, think positive, you have, once again, set sail. Good luck.

  4. And here's another take on it. Mine is at NVC and has been issued a number. However, this is a recent email I received:

    "Good afternoon,

Your inquiry has been received at the NVC. As part of the aftermath of the events of September 11, 2001, there are additional security check requirements for visa applicants. While it is not possible to predict when the clearances for this case will be finished by all involved Washington agencies, please be assured that as soon as the results are received, the case file will be forwarded to the appropriate US Embassy or Consulate General."

So, it's anybody's guess on how long it gets hung up at NVC because of more security checks.
