  1. Yup, thats Russia for ya. I was at a Aeroflot ticket office buying a ticket to Moscow. My fiance did all the talking, I hung out in the background. Originally the ticket was 2900 rubles but when the the ticket agent saw my US Passport all of a sudden she did not have any of the 'cheaper seats' left. All she had were seats for 5000 rubles. What a racket...

  2. Your fiancee must bring a paid DHL receipt to her interview. She can have the package sent to her home or she can have it held in Moscow for pick up (that's what we did). It should be ready for pick up in 2 or 3 days. She cannot pick it up from the embassy.

Thanks for the reply Neonred. Elena's interview is on a Friday, so I assume the visa would not be ready for pick-up until Tuesday or Wednesday of the next week. So, Elena will ask the DHL people to hold for pick-up when she pays for delivery before interview? Correct?...

  3. How would my fiance go about picking up her visa and sealed envelope in person after the interview? Will the embassy hold them for pick-up or will she have to have DHL hold them for delivery and pick them up at their office in Moscow? How long does the embassy take to get the visa and envelope ready? Anyone do this?...

Also, Elena just got her interview date. The whole process for us looks to be taking right at 6 months. Compared to others, maybe we should feel lucky.

  4. A co-worker of mine also works as a part-time cop at a small local police dept. One evening he comes upon a man driving a riding lawnmower down the middle of the street. He pulls the individual over. He smells alcohol on his breath and asks the man if he's been drinking. The man replies yes he has been drinking. He further states that he lost his driving license due to a previous DUI and that his only way to get to the bar and back home was on his lawnmower. My co-worker pointed out to him that it is still illegal for him to be riding the lawnmower on the street and especially while intoxicated. The man seemed shocked. My co-worker arrested him for DUI and wrote a ticket for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on a public rode. Too funny...

  5. My case took exactly 4 weeks to get from the NVC to the Embassy. It left the NVC on 3/1/07 and arrived at the Embassy on 3/29/07. I was a little annoyed at how long it took because I was expecting it to be about 2 weeks tops.

Yes, I noticed your timeline. Annoyed is where I'm headed as well...

  6. Well, interviews are generally running 2 months from when the embassy receives the case. The question is just when does Moscow 'receive' the case. My case left NVC on the 11th and I am yet to get an interview date. Is my case sitting at the embassy now waiting to be 'received'? I dunno. Maybe it really does take 2 to 4 weeks for the case to physically arrive at the embassy...

  7. The main thing to keep in mind is that she sees you spending thousands and thousands of dollars on this process to come see her, make the applications, etc., and then you tell her you're broke. Even if it's the truth, there's still some doubt in the back of her head. (Especially if she's used to being "taken care of" over there.) I think in order for anyone's K-1/3 to be successful, you're going to have to paint an accurate picture of your financial status BEFORE she gets here. The more prepared she is for what she's going to face, the better off she'll (and your relationship) will be.

Absolutely agree. My four tips to Russia, telephone bills, ect., ect. hasn't been cheap. I told my finace that this whole process has been expensive and in no way could I afford to do it again without saving for a long time. She understood. I have set aside airfare money for her to fly back to Russia once a year to visit family and friends. She is ok with this. Yes, I have been very upfront with her about money...

  8. I applied for a visa for my fiancee in December 2006 with I29F. We have received an interview date for June 18 at the the U.S. embassy in Manila.

However, we were married in the Philippines on April 28, 2007. I would like to change this application from a FIANCEE visa to a SPOUSE visa.

Can anyone tell me what I have to do. Thanks in advance.

    Jim K.

I am curious, why the rush to get married? I mean, you had an interview date already...

  9. Then I got an email that flashed up as from "CRIS" which is what USCIS emails say (at least ones I've received for registering at the site, etc). Only problem was I forgot for a moment that I had changed the password (about a 10 min lagtime between changing it and getting the confirmation email) and I allowed myself to think . . . .

LOL!! Yeah, same thing happened to me. Except I jumped out of my chair screaming like a banshee thinking this was the email I had been looking for. You can't imagine the letdown I went through when I actually read the email. How cruel...

  10. Just FYI, I got an RFE requesting more evidence of our relationship. In the RFE it stated that only film dated photographs were considered as secondary evidence. However, I have not ran into anyone else with this problem??? Just a heads up.

I think that question turns on what other kinds of evidence are there with the photos. If you have strong primary evidence, there's probably more wiggle room on the photos (I know I've seen plenty of people say they handwrote dates on their photos - not everyone has their camera set to print the dates on the photos - I don't - it ruins the pictures!)

Yes, I agree. I sent 9 nine photos printed on two sheets of paper. I just wrote under each photo the date photo was taken, where it was taken, and who was in the photo. My primary evidence was strong, so maybe the photos did not need to be considered...
