  1. That had to be tough to go through. I am sure they will be done with your case very soon since they now have the requested evidence. I am curious- what was the RFE for? The NVC just got all our documents and now we are waiting for the case to be completed. Good luck.

  2. I was just curious about something. I have received all of my other forms from the NVC in a timely manner. But the DS-230 has not yet arrived even though it was generated 15 days ago. Is that normal for the DS-230 to take so long to arrive? Again, this is more curiosity than anything else because I am using James Shortcuts and sent in the DS-230 package a couple of weeks ago after the system said the DS-230 was generated. Just wondered about other people's experiences. If this is normal, then it is a good reason for using James Shortcuts. Thanks.

  3. That is the same message I got and I understood it to mean that the DS-230 had been generated (which is apparently correct). Initially I had the same reaction as you because it is actually the biographic forms from the BENEFICIARY that the NVC is waiting for. I sent her DS-230 to NVC on December 27th but this is still not reflected in the NVC system. I think this is most likely due to the fact that Jan 1st and 2nd were federal holidays. I understand your confusion, but at least it is the last thing you have to do for a while. Then you and I can play the waiting game together. Good luck.

  4. Congrats RabbitNYC also! You and Brad must be flying high today.

Brad: Sofia and I are going to do the same thing regarding travel during the interview because she didn't want to deal with bringing all of her stuff to Bogota. We will go back to Barranquilla, but maybe just for a day or two because my work is not as flexible as yours. I am sure all will work out during your interview. Thanks in advance for letting us know about the contents of the package she receives. I am really happy to hear that all of the waiting is finally over for you guys.

  5. That's Great Brad!! Congratulations!

I was hoping you would hear something today. One last hurdle and you guys are done! I assume you are planning on accompanying Vicky during her appointment at the embassy. I am a little curious exactly what she receives in the mail and what she needs to accomplish prior to the interview. I may hit you up in a couple of weeks to find out what is included in the package so that I can give Sofia a heads-up. It must be exciting to book your flights and hotel for a trip this month to Colombia. Good luck with everything.

  6. I got the same message yesterday and I sent in our package using James Shortcuts. You will probably save about a week using that method. I assume India does not require anything additional beyond what is normally required. I know that some countries require more documents than others. As long as you are sure you have the correct documents and you are comfortable creating the barcode cover sheet using James Shortcuts, then that is an option to save a little processing time. It is up to you, but it is not that big of a deal either way because you are at the final step of sending documents to the NVC.

  7. I'd be interested in seeing other members' CR1 experiences in Bogota. It looks like you (Looking4Wife) and I have very similar timelines and we have the possibility of interviews in the late March - April timeframe if all goes well. Any feedback from people who have recently gone through Bogota on a CR1 would be much appreciated. I know that BradyVicky will have their interview soon and I am sure they would be interested in other's experiences also.

  8. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I am waiting for the DS-230 to be generated which should be any day now. I have everything ready to go per James Shortcuts (DS-230 Part 1, Copy of Biographic Page of her Passport, and Barcode Cover Sheet printed from Visa Journey). Virtually all the other cover sheets and correspondence sent to me from the NVC contain a pattern of asterisks in the upper right-hand portion of the page. Sometimes the pattern changes. I notice that the DS-230 barcode cover sheet available here on Visa Journey is missings the asterisks which I am sure are going to be on the one being generated from the NVC. I am not sure if they serve any purpose such as alignment for a scanner or whether they are unimportant. I assume these asterisks are not critical or else I would seen something about that here on Visa Journey.

    1. Has everybody else on here using James Shortcuts been sending in the DS-230 barcode cover sheet without the asterisks?

    2. Has there been any problem or issue with this?

    Thanks!

  9. I think what you are doing will work fine. I remember looking into this some time ago and we finally decided just to use her maiden name all the way because it was kind of a hassle to change it in Colombia. I wanted to get it changed at the time of the marriage but they don't really do that there. I seem to remember someone saying that it can be listed as her married name on the visa at the embassy. And I am pretty sure the visa is placed inside of her passport. But if not, we will change it after she gets here. I think the biggest negative is that it brings up the issue of when she wants to travel back to Colombia and her name in her passport is different than her married name. But I don't think that is a very big deal.

I don't think there is just one way to handle this. I believe it can be done either way and each way has it advantages. I am too far down the line to change at this point because I will be sending in her DS-230 shortly (with her maiden name). I already have her signed copy here ready to go. Your decision sounds good and in reality may be the better way to go. I would like to hear what others have done and plan to do.

  10. UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the NVC and I was told that the "Authorization For the Release of Tax Data" form is needed for the file in "some" cases, but in others it is not. She said if I did not receive it then I should not send it. She sounded very confident with her answer. Just thought I would let everyone know. As Looking4Wife stated I'm sure it doesn't do any harm if you decided to send it even though it was not requested in your particular case. Thanks to everyone for responding with your opinions and comments.

  11. Looking4Wife:

I am now thinking that this form is country specific believe it or not. I notice that is has the Embassy Post on the bottom of the form. And, the fact that your wife is from Colombia also reinforces that theory. It would be an incredible coincidence if both of our packages were missing that particular document. There is also NO reference to it in the cover letter yet there is a specific reference to the Barcode sheet. Since I did not use James shortcuts on sending the I-864 (because it is much further ahead of the DS-230 already) I am just going to send back exactly what they sent me. If I get an RFE I guess we'll all know.

You are very observant to be able to tell that the photo of my wife in front of the elevator is the Hotel Versailles. You are correct. I usually stay there during my visits to Barranquilla. Everybody there knows me now. It looks like we have very similar timelines at this point. Let's hope things keep moving along for both of us.

    Doug:

I sent you a message via email. Have a great trip!

  12. Can anyone tell me if the I-864 package they received recently from NVC contained "Authorization for Release of Tax Data" form shown in James' Shortcuts? It was definitely NOT included in my package. Is that something they still use or is James' Shortcuts outdated? I am unable so far this evening to get through to a live operator at the NVC to ask about it. Thanks!

  13. Hello VJers! The time has come for me to submit my Affidavit of Support (I-864) and I am working on it this weekend. In Question 21 (Household Size) it is not at all clear where I list my wife in this section. Is it better to list her in 21A (Persons you are sponsoring in this affidavit) or in 21C (Spouse)? I understand that I am not supposed to list her twice, but the directions do not stipulate which is the preferred option. Above question 21C it does say "Persons NOT Sponsored in this Affidavit" so I assume it is most correct to list her in 21A. I am sure this has been discussed on here before, but I could not find a thread when I tried to search for it. I appreciate any of your opinions on this. Thanks.

  14. What a great Christmas and/or New Year's Present! I was beginning to wonder when your case was going to be approved. Let us know when you find out the interview date. I'm really happy for you guys. I hope to following in your footsteps soon. Congratulations!!

    Mark

Its about FREAKIN' time... CASE COMPLETE 12/1/06!!!

I think they let the DS-230 sit there juuust long enough to max out the 2-4 week review period (received Nov. 3rd)...

At any rate...it is now a race to the end!!!

  15. Hey Doug:

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

I responded to you in my barcode posting late last night. I knew it was imminent since you said you had been touched. That is great timing - receiving the word on Thanksgiving! Hopefully, both of our spouses in Colombia will receive their Visas around the same time. Brad should be getting word anytime on his NVC approval. I am happy for both of you guys. Congratulations again and Happy Thanksgiving!

  16. Thanks for everyone's responses. I kind of assumed that the barcode represented the NVC Case #, but it never mentioned it in the instructions in James' Shortcuts (at least where I was looking). I guess they figured that it was obvious that you need to type in the case number in the barcode generator. Sometimes I miss obvious things (like this time). Oh well, that's why I'm glad this forum exists.

Doug: I an optimistic that you will be getting your NOA 2 approval at any moment. The touch would indicate to me that they finally got to yours in the stack of cases. Let us know as soon as it happens.

Brad: Thanks for the encouragement and also not making me feel like an idiot on the barcode thing. It looks like you should be getting the NVC approval any day now. I can't wait to be where you are now in the process.

    Let's all keep in touch..

    Mark

Like they said Mark...and dont feel stupid. I believe it actually forgets to tell you that at one point, or something like that, at any rate it is easy to get mixed up at times with the directions. Glad to hear you are moving right along!
  17. For those of you familiar with James' Shortcuts I have a question:

I know that you need to generate a barcode and I inderstand how to create it and paste it into the AOS Bill. In the instructions (James' Shortcuts) nothing is said about personalizing the barcode. Wouldn't everbody have the exact same barcode? Or, am I supposed to type my case # into the barcode generator?

    Thanks!

  18. I decided to add us to the list since I know a couple of you "Colombia" guys on here.

  19. I need help please...im trying to get my husband here from qatar hes originally from iraq..i have been trying for 2 years to get him here..our joint sponsor was rejected..and there was no reason to reject him he made more than enough to be our joint sponsor..Can anybody please help me?On what i should do next?Or if u know someone who is willing to sponsor my husband..Hes a very good man..Hes an english teacher..He just wants to have a chance for a better life for me and our family and to be with me..Please let me know if u can help us..Thank u..

Sorry to hear about your situation. If your joint sponsor was rejected by the NVC (National Visa Center) I would probably call them or email them to see if you can find out why the joint sponsor was rejected. Maybe there was a mistake or something missing from the I-864.

  20. Thanks for your reply! I will keep checking every week to see if they have received our case at NVC.

As soon as you know that your case has been received at NVC i.e. assigned a case number; you can email your address change to NVCINQUIRY@state.gov

Make sure you put the case number in the subject line.

Suggested email content as per the one my hubby sent.

    1. Regarding the subject case number the following information applies:

    a. Beneficiary name: XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXX - DOB: 13FEB1982

    b. Petitioner name: XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX - DOB: 02JUL1980

    2. I am requesting that Petitioner address be changed to reflect the

    following:

    (NAME)

    (NEW ADDRESS)

Hubby received an email confirmation back within a couple of days.

  21. We got our I-130 NOA2 approval from CSC about 10 days ago. NVC should be receiving our case soon. I am moving within the same city and zip code. Just a couple of questions:

    1. What is the best way to notify CIS of my new address? I assume it is with a phone call to their 800# since the AR-11 is used only for aliens to update their address and the I-865 is used for sponsors only if you have already filed an affidavit of support.

    2. Does the NVC need an official notification of the updated address or do we just start using the correct address on the DS 3032, I-864, DS-230, etc.? Again, a phone call to NVC the best method?

    3. Does a change of address cause any delay in processing if you are moving within the same city?

I just wanted some insight on here before talking to CIS and NVC because it is common to get a representative on the phone that doesn't know what they are talking about. Thanks!
