  1. Hi

Forms are made for regular citizens, so a lawyer is not needed to understand what to do... If your fiancee can speak English it is even more straight forward... I did not use a lawyer but I can understand you would prefer one... But I do not think it would speed up the process, just make you maybe less worried. I know that I prefer to be in control and know what is happening rather than having to go through a third parties...

    Good luck

  2. Hi Devilette,

I agree I was lazy and did not use the search tool. But basically most of the answers of the questions discussed in the forum can be found in former talks, don't they? So where is the fun of live chat if everything should be found by googelling...? :D

Thanks again for the answer and take care!

  3. I'm curious about the experiences of those of you who have gone through the medical exam in the foreign country or who's significant other did and what the experiences were. Like... what exactly do they test for with the blood tests and what do they ask you to do in the exam?

I know the USCIS website says the blood test is for HIV and syphilis but is there anything else or do they just specifically check only for those?

Thanks to all for your input!

Exam is simple, heart, bood pressure, eyes... medical questionnaire... In Paris blood test is for HIV and syphilis or viruses of that family (VDLR), that is all, also a lung X ray for tuberculosis.

    Nothing 'hidden' in the tests...

  4. You are welcome TracyTN. Each Embassy has its specificity... The Paris one has contradicting info on its website vs sent documents, and is very had to contact... But "c'est la vie"

It is written "I-864" 2 times, no mention of I-134 on DS-2001 checklist of packet 3. But I do not see a very strong difference between the 2 excepted the binding system... Sorry too complicated for a frog brain!

Note - 300,000 USD in assets should be more than needed for the affidavit - good for you!

  5. The original writer of this "invoice", failed to mention all the money saved by not having to take your OH out to dinner & a movie every week, purchasing new clothes for your dates, fuel you didn't have to spend to go on said dates. Since my husband is so far away I have saved money on makeup, beauty salons, new shoes and clothes because for the majority of the last three years I haven't had to worry about what I look like he can't see me anyways! Just a thought.

    So true! LMAO

  6. Hi

Thank you for sharing your budget, but it does not apply to everyone as mentioned by other listers.

For example, wedding fees, well in my country it is the bride's dad who pays... So my US fiancé will not have to !

You forgot that once married, your husband will pay LESS tax ! Money is saved...

And last but not least, I will work and add my income to his, so our global income may be much higher !

Besides, it is usually cheaper to live at 2 than alone for food, wahing up, sharing the rent etc...

If we had not met my finacé and I would have travelled anyway...

So what adds really to expenses in our case are the immigration filing and translating... But love has no price!!!

    Cheers
