I will double check the letter after work, but I am pretty confident it said that they needed to file a tax return. I got two separate letters, one for each of them. I also filed my tax return early in the tax season so it should have been on file and I don't think they should have sent me those letters if it was just mine

I recently received a letter in the mail saying I needed to file a tax return for my wife and stepdaughter (age 5) in order to continue the process for them to get a green card. It says I need to provide a copy of the tax return or proof to show why I don't need to file one. My wife has a social security number but my stepdaughter does not. I would greatly appreciate any guidance as to how to move forward.

My wife had a previous marriage but the only divorce decree she had was given to the Embassy for her interview. My package for the AOS is almost complete, save for that piece of paper. I wrote a supplement to explain what happened and I plan on attaching it to the package. Is there another way of getting a divorce decree without returning to Japan? Or will they be able to pull the file from her visa interview when she turned it in?
Also, the payment is unclear for k1 and k2. Should they be separate money orders of $1070 and $635? Or a single money order?

Thanks for the feedback. The only issue I still have is that our marriage certificate still has her maiden name on it and she already has a social security card. Should I just file for a change of name or see if they can alter the marriage certificate? And then go back to social security office with her new married name?

My wife and I got married in Norfolk, VA. All of her paperwork thus far says her maiden name. We want to change her and her daughter's last names to mine, but we are nervous about doing so because we don't know if it will affect the paperwork while filing for the AOS. Does anyone know how to go about changing their surnames in Virginia, and properly documenting it? Or would it be better to wait until after the AOS is complete?

How long after your interview did you get your visa? And then your daughter's?

I hope the visas come this week :/

We don't have anything in hand yet. However, I got an email yesterday saying my application was approved but I checked CEAC and my fiance's visa still says administrative processing and her daughter's says application received. It's all pretty confusing because they say different things.

I emailed the Immigrant visa unit directly so hopefully they reply soon.

My fiance and her daughter had their interview on September 11. It came up that my fiance had been previously married, but it didn't reflect that on her paperwork (I didn't know until after I sent in the I-129f, but I did know about it.) The interview went well except for that piece, which they said she had to send in a translated divorce decree, which she did two days later. They also emailed me directly after her interview and asked if I knew about the previous marriage and asked if I want to continue with the visa process. I told them the truth, which is that I knew about it but not until after I filed the initial paperwork. I also made it clear that I definitely DO want to continue the process. I check CEAC every day but it still says it is under administrative processing. I tried calling the embassy but they just sent me an email saying that my case has been "Updated" but it still says administrative processing. It has been two weeks since then, and her intended date of arrival is approaching. Does anyone have any ideas? Or insight?

CEAC still says "Administrative processing." The interview was two weeks ago

That is good to hear. Thank you for updating me!

Interview went well enough. They said she had to get a document translated before we can proceed. So now we are just waiting on the embassy to get the letter and hopefully all will be well.

I would appreciate it! We finally were able to scheduke their interview for Sep 11 but they sent us an email about a consular report of birth abroad. Her fathers name isn't on the birth certificate either. When I called the embassy they said they thought I was her father but I told them I was not and they said they would email me soon. Hopefully it isnt required because we cant get it. I will update as I learn more.

I have created online profiles for both of them and we are at the stage where we have to pay our visa fees. For my fiance, she can add her daughter to her profile as well but does her daughter have to have her own profile still? If I schedule my fiance for an interview, will her daughter have to schedule on her own profile as well or will she be a part of her mother's page? The k2 process is very confusing. I can only find information on the follow to join route but they will both be coming here at the same time. If anyone can help me out with this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

I read the website but it is unclear to me on how to schedule their interviews for the same day. Also, do I make two separate payments for the visa fee? Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I am currently waiting on the NVC to forward the package to the embassy in Tokyo and I am trying to get a jump on the forms I will need. I have a few questions about them for the K1/K2 visa.
1.) My fiancee's daughter is 4 years old and she will be coming to America as well. Do we need a DS-160 for both of them individually? Can I fill it out for them?
2.) Does she need a form to verify she has never been married?
3.) Is there anything special I need to do for the K2? I keep reading a lot about the K1 and K3 but not much about the K2. I listed her daughter on the I-129f when I sent in the original petition.
I tried reading the stuff on some of the threads but it isn't exactly clear to me what I need to do. Any help would be appreciated.

My fiance has a 4 year old daughter and her biological father is nowhere to be found. We have no idea how to contact this guy. His name is not on her birth certificate either. I was wondering if there was any kind of documentation we would have to provide even though she has full custody? They are Japanese.

How do I move this thread?

Thank you! That actually makes me feel much better.

I keep trying to call them but the numbers I found are either machines or disconnected. I am trying to get in contact with an actual person at the CSC. If anyone has the correct phone number I would appreciate it.

I submitted a change of address on April 6, 2017 and was told to expect a reply by April 17, 2017. It is now the middle of May and no reply was given. I tried to submit an inquiry online and I could not do so because my total processing time is less than 6 months. I am just concerned about my package. I understand it takes a lot of time but nobody replied to my request to change address. I also tried to call the California service center where it is being processed and I only get machines or disconnected numbers. If anyone has any info or recommendations that can alleviate my concerns it would be greatly appreciated.

You were right. My wife just sent me a photo of the notice and it did say the petitioner. Thanks for helping me get it cleared up. I will be mailing the evidence this week.
