  1. Hey guys! our process is almost done thank God. At least for now I can go and be with my husband after almost two years of waiting. But, we encountered an "issue". We went to the interview at the embassy located in the DR, got approved, everybody super happy, yay and all...but, when we were home organizing all of our papers we noticed that we didn't get back our marriage certificate and my birth certificate, which are super important docs. They kept the originals!

What ought we to do? I went today to pick up my passport and received an envelope that I am not supposed to open. It's for the immigration officer at the US airport. I wonder if the documents are there?

I called the embassy phone line, and the agent told me that the documents that they didn't give back it's because they retain them. What is that supposed to mean? Aren't we never getting those docs back?

Those of you that have been through the process with the embassy in the DR please advise.

Thank you so much and good luck to all of those that are still waiting. Lots of patience my dears. Just when it looks like it's never ending, it gets fast!

  2. Hi everyone!

First of all I'd like to thank this community for being so helpful and empathetic during this long, stressful process.

Our interview is finally coming up after a long wait. It'll be in April 2018. But, we are so so confused with one of the required docs I need to take with me to the interview. When the NVC sent us the cover letter check list they told us to bring to the interview the following:

[x] Your _______________2016____________________ IRS transcript or U.S. income tax return.
[x] You can get a transcript on the IRS's website: irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript. If you cannot get an
IRS transcript, please send a photocopy of your financial income tax return and a copy of every Form W-2
and Form 1099 that relates to your return(s). Do not include copies of these forms if you provide an IRS
transcript unless you filed a joint income tax return with your spouse and are qualifying using only
    your income.

But then on the embassy additional docs page they request the following:

    For family-based visa applications:

c The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s.

What should we actually get? we are super confused and stressed. My husband already requested the 2016 IRS transcript...is there anything else we need for the interview? If anybody has had experience with this embassy it's the one in the Dominican Republic.

    Please advise.

    Thanks!

Yes, my CR-1 was so fast because I live in the same country as my spouse and was able to do DCF processing.

The long waiting time is normal for regular processing. Keep hanging in there. You'll probably get your NOA2 in a few months from now hopefully.

    Oh I see. Well congrats!

Thanks for the encouragement. We are waiting patiently but sometimes we get desperate haha. Hopefully yeah we will get a response soon.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do until you get your CR-1. You just have to wait it out.

As a teacher, I highly doubt you would qualify for any type of work visa regardless.

Thanks. Hey I noticed your timeline, you got your CR-1 so fast!

We've been waiting since February for our NOA2. Is it normal to wait that long?

  5. Hello guys,

My husband and I were wondering if it's possible for me to get a separate work permit while waiting for our CR-1 process. I am a teacher in my country and we were thinking that in the month I have off I could go visit him in the States and work in the meantime. It's worth mentioning I have a tourist visa.

    Is this possible? Please advise.
