  1. I am looking ahead to the next step in this process and I need some input from some of the more senior members if possible.

As far as I can tell, I am going to need the I-864 for Thailand, maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong?

The only problem I can possibly see, is that I took unpaid leave of absence for most of 2005 and had almost no income for that year, (I had enough assets to afford to do this). My individual income for 2003 and 2004 averaged more than 4 times 125% of the 'poverty level' for 3 people and my income year to date is about 5 times that same figure.

I've also owned a home for over 20 years, (well, the mortgage company still owns part!), and have retirement accounts etc.

Logic tells me this is not going to be a problem at all and I'm just looking for something to worry about, but then I also wonder why they want 3 years worth of tax returns... and if in fact they will need an I-864 for Thailand. (Maybe I'm just a worry-wort!)

  2. Hi, I find it to be very convenient that when I see a post in the forums, I can 'click' on the country of the fiance and it takes me to a list of other fiances/couples with petitions/applications from the same country.

I find it to be extreemly frustrating, that when I click on my own name, and go to my profile page, the same clickable link to my own fiance's country is not there. The only way I know to get to that list, is to go into the forums, find one of my own posts, and then click on my fiance's country.

I'm sure there is another way I will run accross eventually, but I'm new here and just having a hard time sometimes navigating the site.

It would be very convenient, if the country of my fiance listed on my profile page was 'clickable'.

  3. Um...

When I first started looking into this whole 'Fiance Visa Thing' back in April, I scheduled for one of those InfoPass appointments. Petitions at that time were being processed from February and I was quite naive' and thought to myself "WOW! Just fill out the papers and she can be here in 3 months! NOT TOO BAD!"

We made plans for a late November / early December wedding... little did I know...

    *SIGH*

At least I know I'm not 'weird' - (not the only MAN that feels like "whining" over this whole process!)

  4. I just petitioned for my Filipina fiancee and just realized that her daughter's family name is different than my fianee's family name. Although my fiancee was never married to the father of her daughter, the daughter still took the family name of her father. Her daughter has been in her custody the whole time and the father has never supported the daughter in any way.

Will it be a problem for her daughter to be granted a visa if her family name is different then the family name of her mother?

I know is the US, the mother is usually given the parenting rights in the case of a nonmarriage birth, is this also the case in the Philippines? any help on this issue would be great.

    Many thanks....

I've got the same situation, i just included a certified, translated copy of the childs birth certificate showing the name of the mother and father. I'm sure that a woman having a child with a different last name is not something uncommon.

  5. I'm new at this myself, but I would think that photo copies of the passport stamps would help, as well as copies of credit / debit card statements for purchases and / or cash withdrawals in your area, and also I've heard that the receipt for, and the photo of you with an engagement ring can be a biggie. I'd put in my continuatin letter regarding how you met, that you're sorry that there are no photos of you actually together and explain why, (not knowing in advance that you'd need them). Try to chose some photos that an average person could look at and reasonably determine they were taken at roughly the same time. Take a photo of you and your son together, preferably him wearing the same cloths, so that they can see that 'quacamole kid' is your son.

I'd file the I-129f now and get the process started, if they request more evidence of an ongoing relationship before your next opportunity to do photos, have him write a long letter professing his love for, and send a photo of him kissing an 8x10 of you~!

:D - just my two cents

  6. I see on other peoples timelines, they have things inserted like dates they met, or trips for visits, and when I go to edit my timeline I don't see anywhere to add that kind of information. Also, I want to know what a 'touch' is. I just submitted my I-129f petition and when I log onto the site, all I see is 'last updated' - if that date changes is that called a 'touch'? How do I add a 'touch' to my timeline? How soon should I expect my 'first touch' - (lol, that sounds almost sexy doesn't it? - reminds me of the Madonna song 'Like a Virgin' :D)

PS I notice that some people have their timelines appear with their posts here, but I don't see a button that will allow me to insert my timeline to my posts. Is this done just by 'cut and paste' or is there something else I am missing?

  7. Thanks everyone, from what I've been able to gather, most requests for additional information involve evidence that the relationship exists, I sent copies of airline tickets for two trips I made to Thailand, hotel receipts, 2 photos of us together for each trip, a copy of a chat log chosing a day from each of the past 9 months, receipts for flowers and gifts, copies of emails, and a copy of my receipt for her diamond engagement ring, and a long letter telling how we met and fell in love... hopefully that's enough!

  8. Réjean (Canadian fiancé) is here with me, and he leaves tonight at 8:30 pm. We're trying to get all our forms finalized to send in for the K1 visa, but we have a problem with one part of the G-325a form. Under the "Applicant's residents past five years" part, one of the cities will not fit in the space no matter if it is hand-written or typed. It's a city called "St-Jean-sur-Richelieu". He filled out and printed the forms while I was at work, and he put in the box the partial name of the city and thought it would be ok. Not quite, honey.

So, what should we do? Hand-write the whole name to the right side of that column? Attach an additional piece of paper to clarify? Will we have to reprint the forms and leave it blank with something like "See other page"? I have no idea what to do about this, and we really do not want this package sent back.

I know, we should have finalized this way earlier.

Also, his signature is more of a character than his name... is that going to pose an issue?

    Thanks for your help!!! :)

Well, I'm new at this, but I did had the same problem, and as i did with the I-129f, I attached a continuation sheet, and in the space provided I put 'see attached continuation sheet' - I titled the continuations sheet "Continuation Sheet for G-325a for <name> Question <x>.

The only thing I did not do was sign the continuation sheet, which someone told me I sould have, and I'm not sure what they will do about that.

Thats my two cents, but I'm new here - just trying to help :)

  9. Someone told me that every continuation page attached to the I-129f had to be 'signed', and that the 'statements of intent to marry' had to be notarized. I guess I should have found this site before I sent in my application. I have gone over the checklist and I submitted everything on it, and more...

One time I called USCIS and got a very helpful person, he basically told me that how strict the guidelines are going to be enfored depends on the person who processes the application. Another time I called with questions the person basically told me they could not help me at all, just read the directions and do as they say.

If in fact I did need to sign every continuation page, (such as an address that would not fit in the space provided), what will they do?

If I discover something that I missed, or want to supplement my I-129f, can I do that now or do I have to wait?

I was looking for a list of common mistakes made on visa applications, and didn't find anything. When USCIS sends out a request for addtional evidence, is that usually because the application was in some way incomplete?

  10. I just joined here and filled out my 'Visa Timeline'. I don't see any place here to enter any personal information though. It seems to me that a place with this much infomation would have a section where each member could fill out some sort of bio. Maybe I am missing something. I wonder if here are any others such as myself, living in Arizona, who's fiance is in, or who's wife is from, Thailand.

Are there other forums like this one, but maybe geared towards helping couples from similar backgrounds, from the same parts of the USA, to have the opportunity to meet each other?

It would be nice to come to a forum like this and be able to find other people who are bringing, or who have brought fiance's to Arizona from Thailand. Is there a way to get this information? Are USCIS immigration details public records? Would it be possible for me to get a list of recent immigrants from Thailand to Arizona?
