  1. I know that's a survey of European women, but I wonder how American women would rank. Especially youger ones.

    We 'mature' women at my workplace talk all the time about the girls we see around our highschools and the mammoth size of many of their boobs. It seems like they are growin' 'em bigger than when we were in school. Wonder if it's all those pre-natal vitamins our mothers didn't have?

    I've read it has a lot to do with the growth hormones in meat. Same goes for girls developing so much earlier than they did back in the day.

  2. I'm in Culpeper VA, which is 90 minutes to 2 hours from DC depending on traffic. Yes, that's quite a hike to DC, but a good portion of the population here makes the drive. Housing is much cheaper than it is closer to DC. You could also check into Manassas and Stafford. They're both closer than I am, but cheaper than living further north. My advice on childcare would be to check out the place fully. I've heard some pretty nasty stories, and some really great ones.

  3. I get through about 2 pots a day. Sometimes less, sometimes more. I use 8 o'clock a good portion of the time, but if I'm out and something else is on sale welllllllll. It goes into my cup black and stays that way.

  4. broom=brush

    dresser=chest of drawers

    trash bag=bin liner

    gas=petrol

    raining hard=pissing it down

    snitch=grass (Still don't get this one)

    To be a touch dirty, the following aren't naughty in the States:

    knob

    fanny (I still get giggles imagining old Southern ladies named Fanny in London)

    bloody

    and a backwards peace sign just means your a dork as opposed to meaning f*** off!

  5. We actually agreed to not send each other anything this year to save money. He cheated, and my package arrived last week. I got: fingerless gloves for work, fennel biscotti, a t-shirt and a card I'm not allowed to open until Wednesday. He's getting an extra special romantic dinner for just the 2 of us during his March visit as a belated gift.

  6. I had 3 natural births, and 1 c-section. My final pregnancy was twins, and the bottom twin was back down in my pelvis, with her brother sitting on her. Having done it both ways I can honestly say I prefer natural. Of course, it boils down to what's best for baby/babies. I suppose I should also mention I'm deathly afraid of needles, so the whole epidural part of the c-section freaked me out pretty badly.

  7. I think it should be given in small digestible chunks. Body parts as they become aware that others aren't the same 'down there'. "Where do babies come from?" generally comes fairly early, as in preschool. They aren't quite up for "Well, the Daddy inserts his #######...." at that age. "The Daddy puts a seed in the Mommy that grows into a baby in her tummy." My eldest recently asked what a period is. So I told her, that kind of naturally led to a fairly basic explanation of sex. Her reaction was something every mother wants to hear. "Well I hope you don't want grandkids Mom, cause I'm NEVER doing that! GROSS!!!!"

    I figure we'll hit birth control, STD's, and what sex does to you emotionally when needed. By 'when needed' I mean when puberty rears it's ugly head all the way.

  8. Hmm. When my eldest was about 3 she asked why her Daddy could pee standing up.(She walked in on him in the bathroom.) I explained the boys have a #######, girls have a ####### idea. She then spent the next month announcing to anyone that would listen that she had a #######. It was actually quite the routine by the end of it. "I have a #######, and Mommy has a #######, but Daddy has a #######. You're a girl so you have a ####### too!"

  9. That's the SO's one condition about the move. I have to buy a mouthguard. I've actually changed the shape of my teeth slightly. Alas, those things are NOT cheap.

  10. I seriously doubt all the children being called autistic in these statistics are the stereotypical autistic child. I honestly wonder if they aren't using every child that has a disorder under the autism spectrum, or that may. I've been told that dyslexia is considered to fall under the autism spectrum by some.

    To ChristinaM: I'm not seeking an argument. I don't disagree that ADD, and ADHD are overdiagnosed and overmedicated. I have a child that daydreams...she also transposes letters and words. It was suggested to me by her teacher that she be screened for a learning disability. The school deemed her ineligible for testing. The reasoning behind that would make this post a book. To make a long story short I had her independently tested. The results came back 'mild ADHD inattentive type, probable learning disability..furthing testing required' I shared these results with the school, and was told to get her medication for the ADHD. She was ineligible for LD services as she wasn't failing her classes.

    That being said, when told my child was ADHD I shrugged and said 'we'll deal with it'. When told my son(3 at the time) may have autism I had to sit down, and very nearly cried right there at school. These days he's four and the official diagnosis is 'developmentally delayed with Asperger's symptoms'. We're hoping he dodges the official diagnosis, as he's improved rapidly with specific therapies.(No meds) He'll most likely always be the kid with quirks, but I don't want that label hanging over his head if we don't HAVE to have it.

    Point being, I can't imagine any parent saying 'diagnose my kid with autism'.

  11. No. Going to the ER isn't free for those without insurance. You get a bill. It can be several bills depending on what needed to be done. The reason people without insurance go to the ER is you have an awfully hard time getting an appointment in an office without an insurance card. You get charged a great deal, but you get seen.
