CNN is not a newspaper and not much of a credible source these days. So, you're questioning if newspapers are credible sources for information? American newspaper journalists are not always without motive, but to flippantly assume that they (newspaper journalists) are not credible is somewhat ignorant of our media history and institutions. Perhaps you like Facebook or the Daily Show for your news. From your comment, it is hard to tell where your journalistic standards begin and end. If you don't know something about our institutions, please don't make uneducated comments. That only serves to broaden misunderstanding by immigrants and others seeking information.

Fraud. Legally speaking, you can only have one place of abode. You are correct that USCIS monitors VJ. According to Alexa and other metrics, about 7% of VJ's traffic is from USCIS. That's a lot of snooping.

You may have the right to petition a court of jurisdiction. First, you should discuss this with her physician. Although he/she cannot discuss her medical file with you, it may be good for the doctor to know what's going on. The doc may know something about her mental state and that can be used in court, if necessary.

I'm concerned that she may get financially scammed.

Do a 1031 exchange (invest in like-kind property) - no tax. You don't need an accountant or lawyer for this. The 1031 rules are very liberal. People do this often - not a big deal.
