  1. Hello guys, I am so sorry to bother you but there is an issue currently bothering me in regards to my mum's stay here in the US. So, I am a citizen and she came on a B2 visa just to visit but now I want her to stay here with me in the US. I am a US citizen and I trying to see if there is a way I can put her on an immigrant package so that she gets to stay, live and work here.

    - Kindly let me know if that is a good idea.
    - What are the documents we need to fill and submit in order to petition for her?
    - Can I also apply for a work permit while we waiting on the petition and how long does the work authorization takes?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts and help

  2. Hello Everyone,

I am a Nigerian residing in Cyprus. I am applying for a family based visa, wife is from the US. We just got a response from NVC that they need additional documents. I have been requested to get another police clearance report. This is the message I got:

"The Nigerian police force no longer accepts requests made through the American Embassy. Requests should be addressed to The Deputy Inspector General, Criminal Investigation Department, Nigerian Police Force, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. Fee should be in the form of an international bank draft payable to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Fingerprint Section, Nigerian Police Force.

The applicant's letter must state full name, place and date of birth, nationality, passport number, date and place of issuance (for current passport or passport used during applicant's stay in Nigeria), exact periods of residence in Nigeria and addresses where applicant resided. Each applicant 16 years of age and over must enclose (1) a copy of the first three data pages of his or her passport, (2) the pages containing Nigerian visas, entry and departure stamps and (3) a complete set of fingerprints taken by the police in the district where the applicant resides."

    My questions are:

    1. What are the documents that I need to send to NVC? Just the Police report and Fingerprint cards.?

    2. "Fee should be in the form of an international bank draft payable to the Deputy Inspector

General of Police, Fingerprint Section, Nigerian Police Force."  Can I just ask a family member to make the payment for me? Does NVC need the Payment Receipt?

I will really appreciate if you can enlighten me more on this.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks Everyone.

@togsonkaks you may call them once in a while, it may be weekly, some people do still call twice a week while waiting, you may ask if they are curently reviewing your documentsas you guys speak,(to atleast know) some cases were completed before reaching 11 weeks, BUT most are more than 11 weeks, you may request for supervisor review after reaching 11 weeks

    good luck :)

Thank you so much for this. I think Im gonna start calling them a month after the scan date. Does that sound Ok?

  4. I just got off the phone with NVC to confirm if they received the documents. They confirmed that they received it on the 16th of March and I was told it will take 11 weeks to fully review  the application.

    My Question now is:

Do we have to wait for the 11 weeks before calling again to confirm the status of the application?

At what stage can we request to speak to a supervisor?

I am asking these questions because of the the similar posts I came across here. Some people said after 11 weeks of waiting, their application still wasnt ready. So, they requested to speak to a supervisor and they were told to wait for another 42 days for Supervisor's review.    I am just trying to prevent this from happening.

I really look forward to hearing from you guys, thanks a lot.

    Thanks a lot

  5. Hello Everyone,

I just got off the phone with NVC to confirm if they received the documents we sent to them 3 weeks ago. They confirmed that they received it on the 16th of March and I was told it will take 11 weeks to fully review  the application.

    My Question now is:

Do we have to wait for the 11 weeks before calling again to confirm the status of the application?

Hi @togsonkaks just wanna clarify, you would like to ask if NVC  received your documents? Does that mean you sent them the whole packet 3 weeks ago? If yes, you should call them and ask if they received it and ask for your scan date, when you sent the documents, and they haven't scanned it on their system, and still sitting at the receiving area, you CAN NOT start counting weeks and date, they will start counting the waiting time, from the time they scanned your document to their system, that is what the so called scan date,

when we sent our documents then Nov 10,2016 and as per USPS, the document were delivered at Portsmouth NH om Nov 14, 2016, i allowed 9 weeks before calling them, assuming the holiday season will cause backlogs, to my surprise, they scanned my documents after 8WEEKS!!! And my scandate is January 13, so from January 13 now waiting to 11 weeks which will be on March31,

so on my opinion and suggestion, if i understand correctly, that you still have no scandate, i suggest you call NVC every single day until you receive your scan date, so you. Can start counting weeks forthe CC (complete case)

btw, NVC's waiting time for the review is now 11 weeks (from previously 4 weeks, to 6 weeks, then to 8 weeks)

if wife is too busy, you may call them just prepare your case number, petitioner's name, beneficiary andbeneficiary's birthday. You may call them ET 7:00am to 12: am (yes long hoursss) monday to friday

    I suggest you call them 7:00 to  avoid waiting long +1 603 334 07 00

am the beneficiary, and i do call NVC most of the time, instead of hubby

hope my reply helps you a bit, and btw, good luck on this journey

3 months i suppose is for the review time,

Hi katherine, what do you mean you still didnt get reply for? Did you mean if they received your mail, or for the review or complete case?

    Hello "R and KJ",

This is brilliant and so helpful. Thanks a lot. I will call them 7AM ET tomorrow.

    Thanks once again

I don't have a scan date yet but I called them last week and they said there's alot of mail and they are really behind so atleast allow 11 weeks for them to review it which they told me to call them back next week. They received my mail january 13, so it's over 2 months now. I'm hoping I get my case close next week.

Oh! This is so helpful. Thanks a lot Katherine

Hello. I called them last week and they said you have to allow 11 weeks for them until they review everything. I am also waiting for my husband's interview. And they want me to call them next week, that's 11 weeks already from the time I mailed them all the documents they needed.

    Hello Katherine,

Thanks for the response, highly appreciated. Do you have a scan date? Did you get any update that they have received the document even before you called?

3 weeks is too soon to panic / they say 30 to 60 days and sometimes the letters say buisness days only

    be patient and wait

    all of us wait

the NVC number is good till late at night and allowing people who work days to call

    there are no fast answers

sign up for the CEAC site and if lucky, you will see updates (depends on the person updating the case)

Thanks for the response Adil, highly appreciated.

We just wanna know if they have gotten the documents. We dont even have a Scan Date yet. Do you think it doesnt matter for now? Just a bit confused here. I am sorry

  10. Hello Everyone,

We sent all the required documents to NVC 3 weeks ago but we are yet to get any update.

What could possibly be wrong? Do we have to wait for them to update the Scan Date?

Secondly, I am the Immigrant..my wife is the one applying and she's also the Agent. Due to her busy schedule, she wont be able to call NVC. The question is can I call NVC directly for an update?

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks a lot.

  11. Please Note: I am the immigrant, a Nigerian currently living in Cyprus. We got married in Cyprus.

USCIS just informed us that our I-130 application has been approved, we've had several delays and we really want to speed up the NVC process so that I can get the visa as soon as possible.

How can we speed up the NVC process?

Should we wait for NVC to send us the list of documents they need or should we start getting them ready now ? So that as soon as we get the document list/instruction from NVC, we will just forward the documents to them immediately since we've already gotten them prior.

For my birth certificate, I know I have to send a copy to them. But do I need to attestate the copy?

For my police report, I am from Nigeria and I have been living in Cyprus for 3 years now. Do I need to get a police report from Nigeria or just Cyprus?

I look forward to getting positive answers from you.

    Thanks

    Akinbo

  12. There is no rule that you have to apply in the country where you married. You have to apply in a country where you are either a citizen or a resident.

When did your wife file the I-130? What did she enter as your address where you live? Was it the other country or did she use your address in Nigeria?

    Thanks for the response B&Z.

We applied in February and she used the country that we got married which is Cyprus.
