  1. They will be staying with us in Tennessee state. I will be paying for their insurance, so I need to figure it out. Actually, they are arriving today. I'm not sure how many days I get after their arrival to have the insurance started. Is they any deadline? And if you think that travel insurance is the way to go, I might opt that. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your help so far.

  2. No they will not be doing any job hunting. It's more like a leisure trip for them and first time in the US. Like I said they will go back in 4 months. Can they buy travel insurance? I didn't know about that. I thought travel insurance is only for the people on visitor visa and if you have green card, you need to buy the actual insurance irrespective of the length of your stay. I'm confused.

  3. Thank you all for your valuable input. I went through different forums and found out that they may need to get Patriot America insurance. Is anyone familiar with this? Are there any other options as well? My parents won't be working here and will be staying for 4 months as of now. They will return back to the home country to finish some legal things and then come back here for good. Dad is 58 & mom is 53 years old.

I don't remember seeing anything called a "green card fee" ??

What form (I-? ) and associated fee are you referring to?

In technical terms, it's called Immigrant fee and is $220/person. You can go this link: https://www.uscis.gov/file-online/log-online-filing and pay the fee. You will need your mother-in-law's visa details though, like A-number and department of state case ID. Hope this helps.

My wife's mother was approved for her I-130 visa and we brought her home two weeks ago.She just received her  S S card in mail today. Is there more she needs to do ?? Does she need to do a medical here ? Does she need to apply for PR card etc. Thanks in advance

You have paid the fee for her green card, haven't you? I'm just making sure because a lot of people are not aware of this fee. My cousin applied for her parents and they came here. She didn't pay their green card fee and they kept on waiting for their green card for couple of months after arrival:P. Then someone told them about the fee, which they paid and received their green cards. I hope this is not the case with you.

Hi Gagan I got email saying that my parents are in queue for interview  I am so excited as it's finally happening 😀 My parents can only book for their medicals afterthey get their interview letter . Right ?  Hope your parents will be joining soon ..

thanks to you and all the vj members.

    Hi Dassie,

Congrats. That's a really good news. You will receive the email within a week or so. Better yet, call NVC and they will let you know the date. That's what I did. I knew the interview date before I received the email. I called NVC for some other purpose and surprisingly, they told me about the date. Your parents can schedule the medical after they know the interview date. Keep the medical exam at least 2 weeks before the interview. They will need to bring the letter to their medical appointment. Good luck.

I saw from your timeline that your visa has been approved. Congrats 💥💥💥🎉🎉🎉 I am hoping to hear from NVC inthe next month or in February 🙏.thank you gagan

    Hi Dassie,

Yes, my parents' interview was on 26th & they have been approved. I'm so happy. Best of luck to you for the interview. Don't stress too much about it like me. I was so stressed but there was no need for it. Everything was so smooth and easy. I wish the same for you and other VJ members. Thanks.

    Hi to everyone,

I am a U.S. citizenship by birth and my pregnant wife is a alien currently awaiting her immigration visa in Jordan. I don't think she will be done before she gives birth. What are the steps to apply for my newborn son to apply for citizenship and how long does it take?

Your baby will be a US citizen by law since you are a US citizen. If any one of the parents is a US citizen, their child also becomes one automatically. It doesn't matter where the child is born (in US or outside). I think that partially answers your question. So now to answer your other question: how to bring your child to the US, I think it will be better if he/she comes with your wife after her immigrant visa is granted. You can always request to expedite your case if you do not want to wait. I don't know how far along are you in the process. Are you going through USCIS or NVC or the consulate? Depending upon this, you can contact respective department to expedite your case. But the good news is you should not have to apply for your child's citizenship.

Hi gagan .. Have you got the interview dates yet ? After you send the documents How long did it take for them to acknowledge the receipt of documents? Did you get email ? Or did you call them ?

    Hi Dassie,

NVC says they usually take up to 11 weeks to process after you send your documents. For me, they took just over 8 weeks. They do not send you any acknowledgement email about receiving the documents. You can track it using tracking number or even better, call them & they will let you know. However, I did receive an email from them saying my applications are in queue for the interview (after 8 weeks). After almost a week, they gave us the interview date which is on 26th December. So we are in process of making fingerprint and medical appointment. How's everything going with your application?

    Congrats 🎈🍾

My parents had to travel to India for their police clearance and so it took a while. Now my tax papers are getting delayed and so the whole process is getting delayed.😘 They have done the DS 260 a while back ,but it's not submitted yet... hopefully everything will be done by the middle of November...

    thanks again gagan

Thanks. And I hope you also get to submit the DS-260 soon. Did you ever get answer to the question you were asking about the address?

  11. 21 hours ago, Dassie said:

Hi gagan , any good news😀Can I ask a quick question.. when filling out the DS260 form where they ask "is the mailing address same as your present address?" What do we use? Is it the US adress or parents present adress?

    Thank you

    Hi Dassie,

Yes, there's a good news. I got an email from NVC on Friday that my parents are in queue for interview now. So I'm just waiting for an email/letter from them for interview date. Not sure how long that usually takes. About your question, I'm not sure which section are you talking about. If this question is in the section where they ask about your parent's information, then use their address. If it's in the section which is about you, then fill your address. It's been more than 2 months since I filled out DS-260, so I don't remember where this question was asked. How come you are still stuck in DS-260? I thought you were filling this about a month or so ago.

Hi gagan have you got the interview date yet  ? Pls update. My parents were busy preparing their civil documents. Just filled out DS 260 for my mom.

Good luck to all of us

    HI Dassie,

No interview dates yet. NVC is still reviewing the documents. I called them couple of weeks ago and they said the review is still within 11 weeks time frame. So they can't tell me anything. I still have about 3 weeks left for 11 weeks. So waiting is all I can do as of now.

    Hey Gagan,

I'm with you on this... best to get the exact amount that was submitted and put that same number on the form. But you should still be able to access yiur tax transcripts easily and quickly online thru irs.gov

Have you managed to get them yet ?

    Deidre

    Hi Deidre,

Yes, I did receive the tax papers from my tax guy on Monday last week. So I wrapped up my I-864EZ for both parents and put together other documents in separate envelopes and sent to NVC on Wednesday of same week. It's been over a week now and NVC says it takes upto 11 weeks for them to review. So I'm just gonna wait for their response now. Keeping my fingers crossed. All the best to you for your cases.

gagan, you should be able to access your tax transcripts yourself at irs.gov its realllllly easy and then you will also be able to save/print them yourself and attach as back for supporting evidence :)

I do have my tax transcripts but don't know how to find out what exact amount my tax guy filled in line 22 of my tax papers. Because I got W2 and 1099 for previous year and the tax transcript for that year tells separate amount, not combined. I know I can add both and fill in I-864 but I don't want to take any risk because a minor discrepancy in the amount can lead to some issues. What's your say on this?

    Thanks,

    Gagan

Thanks gagan, yes my dad's case also is with NVC now. I paid mom's AOS  on Monday. How far are you with your cases ?

Do you know you have to pay AOS fee ($120) only once. It will cover both applications. I didn't know that until I was about to pay it. I am collecting all AOS & IV package documents. Everything is ready except one thing in AOS form. I am waiting for my tax guy to send me my tax papers because I need to know what amount he filled in line 22. I have to write the same amount in the AOS form. He said he will get back to me on Monday. Once he gives that, I will print the forms and mail them.

Hi have you submitted both the applications at the same time ? I submitted mine together but they got approved a week apart . My mom got the NVC welcome letter. But my dads still hasn't come . Iam wondering if we can request for the interview to be on the same date?

I think this is quite normal. I have seen few Vj'ers here who sent applications together but were approved separately. I don't think there's anything to worry about. Send all further documents together as well and hope they schedule the interview on the same day which I think they will because they were filed together. Any update on you dad's case yet?

You do not need any additional document for the same....you can do it by simply applying for reissue of passport reason bifurcation of name...I did it recently and it is very simple...when you get your new updated passport inform NVC by email and attach scanned copy of updated passport for reference.

I did this because I was advised by NVC to provide them    Updated Passport with desired name,if we want to remove FNU.

What I did was I put Balbir as first name and Singh as surname in the form DS 260 because I did not want to put FNU as that is what will appear on his visa and all further documents. I just called NVC and stated this problem. The guy said that there will not be any problem. During the interview, his name will be pronounced as Balbir Singh and if asked, my dad can let the officer know what's the name issue on the passport. He said this is very common issue and happens all the time.

  18. 1 hour ago, karan1981 said:

It doesnt matter. While getting passport just write balbir as first and singh as surname. They wont question, at the passport counter only they check the documents and would highlight if any issue. You can try that out.

You could also contacting nvc to have another opinion.

Ok I will call NVC to have their opinion as well. If nothing else works, applying for passport with separate first and last name is the only option. Thanks for your suggestions.
