I emailed NVC and the Tokyo embassy and explained that my wife's immigrant visa has been making it difficult for her maintain stable employment. Her current job ended June 30, and she has few options for employment because she'll be immigrating soon. I asked for an expedite for this reason, and the embassy accepted it. He embassy, not NVC, approves the expedites at this stage.

I can't imagine how much money they'd save on customer service if the website and updates were functional or useful. I'm sure that 90% of the phone calls are from people like us who just want to know something. If the system of adjudication was more efficient and predictable, then they wouldn't need so many operators and tier 2s to answer phones.
Why does anyone think it is okay to ask a married couple to be patiently apart for over 8 months?

When they received my application, their advertised processing times used to update monthly and they were on track to the point where I thought they would start approvals in March for the October filers but then Trump becomes a president and here we are today.
I just wish they would give true dates to when they would process an application so people can plan their lives accordingly. They treat petitions as just paperwork with no consideration to the peoples' lives effecte by thier disorganization.
I am tired of saying "let's hope this week is our week" it does get really old after saying over and over for 3 months.

It's called Case Tracker. I can search for up to 500 receipts at a time, then I save the receipts with my same date. When a receipt number shows a response, I delete it. This is how I track how many others from my date have been processed.

Yes, maybe we should start a new topic thread to keep each other informed.
I went to my Infopass appointment yesterday. She said the same things as a tier 2.
I contacted Senator Fienstien's office and sent in my release of information. If this does anything, I'll let you know. I'm getting so depressed.

I am a PD October 5 and still waiting. My app also shows other i130 October 5 PDs without status updates since October. Just to say, I think there are others in the same boat, including myself.

I doubt the myth that calling causes delays, I don't think that USCIS is vindictive like that. I've read too many stories of people getting approved after talking with a Tier 2, so I'm buying that myth . In the end, whether you have delays or not seems to be a combination of factors, but also a great deal of random chance.
To call dial 1 (800) 375-5283 then press 1 for English, then 2, then press 1 again. Then enter your receipt # and then press 1 to confirm. Press 3 to talk with a representative. The operator will ask you a few questions to confirm your case, and then they ask what they can do for you. Just say, "I have questions for a Tier 2." They'll transfer you and you'll set up a call back. After a few hours, a Tier 2 will call you back. If it is someone helpful, they tell you if there has been a background check, or if your case is with an officer. If you get someone unhelpful, they'll tell you the "current" processing time and not much else. Just keep calling back, you'll eventually get someone helpful.

I have generally found calling USCIS to be a complete waste of time. 99.9% of the time they're just going to say "Sorry sir/ma'am, you're still within normal processing deadlines". Nevertheless, I completely understand the need to keep calling them. This entire process sucks and it helped me a lot stay pro-active. Here's the script I used to follow --

Ask about the status of your applicaton. You'll likely be given the standard spiel that your application is still within normal processing deadlines. Push back a bit firmly stating that you've seen that XX application submitted on the same day as you have already been approved. Ask why yours might be delayed. They'll try to waffle and not give you a firm answer. Push back with specifics; has it reached an officer's desk? is is it subject to background checks? when did these checks start? You have to be a bit realistic with these phone calls. 99% of the time I called, I got nowhere. The best you can hope for is some small kernel of extra information (i.e., it's in background checks, it just reached an officer's desk). These phone calls are unlikely to speed up your case. Best of luck!
