Hi,
I applied to remove the conditions on my wife's permanent resident status back in Oct 2008.
(Sent it to CSC)
She received the 10-yr GC on July 8, '09. (No interviews or RFE's)
There was a typo in her last name on the card.
I thought I was done with USCIS for a while but they pulled me back in.
(I started with filing the I-129F back in 2006)
I sent the I-90 application to the Phoenix PO Box address this week.
Any experience on how long they take to send a new card ?
Thanks

Hi,
I had filed to remove the conditional status on my wife's permanent resident status
back in Oct 22, 2008. (Sent the application to CSC)
She did the finger printing in Nov 2008.
I received the approval letter yesterday. It was approved on June 2, 2009.
Approx. 7.5 months for approval. No interview.
Hope this helps those who applied in this time
frame and are tracking approvals on this forum.
USCIS didn't update the on-line status since Dec 2, 2008.

Hi,
Does USCIS still update the online status after the AOS application is
transferred to CSC ?
The AOS application was transferred to CSC around mid-Nov '06
and the online status was updated at that time and there were a
few touches after that. The last touch was on Nov 28.
Thanks

Hi,
I just received the NOA1s for my wife's (she came here on a K1 visa)
I-485, I765 and I131 applications. (Notice date : Oct 6, 2006)
Just want to know what are the current processing dates for this
category
The CSC status page lists the date only for Employment based I485
Do I have to go by the local office status page ?
Thanks

They were simply following the rules.... you will have to wait until she has her EAD or Greencard to get her a drivers licence...
Kezzie
Thanks for the replies guys. I was just venting off a bit. CA DMV was giving driver's licenses to
illegal immigrants a while ago. I guess that's in line with federal regulations )

Hi,
We went to the DMV today morning to apply for my wife's driver's license.
We took my wife's :
passport with I-94 card
social security card
birth certificate
We also took
marriage certificate
K1 fiancee approval letter
The morons at the DMV said she can't apply for a license because the I-94 expiry date is
Nov 22, 06 which is less than 60 days away. I tried to explain what a fiancee visa is and that
the expiry date has no meaning since we are married now and have applied for her green card.
The DMV moron said she needs to have a green card before she can apply for a driver's license.
Any similar experiences and how to work around this ?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm getting ready to send out the I-485, I-864, I-131 and I-765 applications today for
my wife who came to the US on a K1 visa.
Does the I-765 go to the Chicago adress or to the local USCIS service center ?
Thanks
Everything goes to the Chicago Lockbox ...
Hi,
Thanks for your response. I doubled checked the application packets to make sure I included everything.
Look like you filed your AOS application recently. Any last minute tips before I mail the applications ?
Thanks

They actually RFE'd me for something they already had: Proof of my co-sponsor's citizenship. I had sent in a copy of his birth certificate with his I-864 but they RFE'd me anyway, so I copied his biographical page on his passport and sent that in and had no problems.
Thanks. See they don't explicitly ask for that and then they RFE you for it.
I was planning to include proof of citizenship with the I864 anyway.

I went to a civil surgeon here in the US and took the sheet of vaccines that the one overseas gave me and got them to transfer all the info onto a I-693A.
Go here for that info (Tip#1 and Tip#2):
Thanks again. One last question : if it's not personal, could you tell the reason for your RFE.
Just to avoid any blunders like I did on the I129F application (didn't complete the G325a
biographic info forms)

The instructions regarding where to file couldn't be any more confusing.
It says if you live in so and so states, send application to X address
and for the rest, still send it to X address
Yeah, it is confusing, but you are right, they all go to the same address now as of April, 2005.
So yes, you will send it to that chicago address regardless of being in California
Thanks for your response.
For the medical exam report, did you just send the one that you must
have got done for your K1 visa interview ?

Is the address basically same for this type of application irrespective
of the state where the applicant or petitioner lives ?

Hi mdyoung,
Thanks a lot for the detailed response. I hope it is useful to others in a similar
situation.
At this point, we will wait till my wife gets her SSN card and then go back
to apply for a name change.

Congratulations on your wedding.... when you file for AOS make sure you file with your married name.... when you get EAD you can then go and get your SSN changed to your married name... to change name with the banks I just showed them a copy of our marriage certificate....
Kezzie
Hi Kezzie,
I'm filling the I-485 application for my wife. Should I put her new last name in Part I of the form
or write a separate letter asking that the name be changed ?
Thanks
Siva

After you wife get her SSN card, go back to SSA office and apply for a name change. Bring your marriage certificate. I’ve done that and was able to have my SSN in my married name.
Simonne
Thanks for the response.
Based on Kezzie's timeline, looks like it is not necessary to have an SSN in hand before applying
for I485 . Is that right ?
Thanks

Hi Kezzie,
Thanks for your response. I noticed in your timeline that you filed I-130 along with your
I485. Why did you have to file the I-130 ? (I filed a I-129F for my then fiancee to bring
her to the US )
Thanks

Hi,
My fiancee is now in the US. We got married 2 days ago.
She would like to change her last name to be the same as mine.
We went to the local Social Security office to apply for her SSN.
We asked that her new last name appear on the card. We took
our marriage certificate along.
But the guy at the counter said that my wife can't just change her
name. She would first have to inform USCIS about the change.
He allowed her to apply with her current name and so she did.
Does anyone have some experience regarding changing names
for their fiance(e)s ? Can we ask for the name change while
applying for her Green Card ?
Thanks

Hi,
I read that K-1 fiancees need to through some secondary processing when they
go through immigration at the port of entry in the US.
Besides the sealed envelope, what other documentation should the fiancee have
available at this time ? What questions do they ask during this process ?
Any experiences ?
Thanks
-
Hi,
The I-485 application states that if the K-1 fiance(e) had a
medical exam within the past year, he or she does not
have to submit a full medical report but only a vaccination
supplement along with the AOS application.
Has anyone done this ? Is the vaccination supplement something that
the fiance(e) receives from the doctor in the home country ?
Thanks

My fiancee had the K-1 visa interview today at the Chennai (India) US consulate
and they approved her visa. This was awesome news to hear after a 7 month wait.
The interview was straightforward. For evidence of relationship, they only asked to look
at engagement photos. They didn't ask about emails, phone records etc.
I have a couple of questions:
1) Do K-1 visa applicants receive a sealed envelope which they have to present to the
immigration officer at the port of entry ? Any experiences at SFO airport ?
2) After we get married in the US, how do we notify USCIS that we are married
and do we have to send them a copy of the marriage certificate ?

Thanks for sharing. 3 months is not too bad by USCIS standards
