  1. Hi all,

On 7-18 my husband's green card was approved. We received the welcome letter, however... On 8-1, the card was undeliverable due to that we were forwarding our mail to our summer internship address. We canceled the forwarding, had the post office hold our mail and are back at our address. Thus the green card will be deliverable once it is sent. We also opened a service request, and it was accepted on 8/14, but we have not heard a word since. My husband recently received a great job offer, BUT we need the green card in order for him to start work. We called the service number today, and they said we could try to get his passport stamped with I-551. Our service center in Charlotte, NC has no available info pass appointments, and our only option seems to be to try walking in and asking. Has anyone dealt with anything similar such as walk-ins, and/or the I-551 stamp?

Thank you so much in advance!

  4. Hi, we had our documents in a folder. On one side was the I-130 and on the other was I-485. Each were in the same order that we sent our original packet in. We added updated joint account info, a shared car title that we recently purchased, and more pictures, which we gave them when they asked if we had anything to add to our packet. We also brought more financial info and 2016 tax returns since our packet had been sent before those were available; however they didn't ask for any of these things. They kept all of the original packet, the copy of our car title, and joint account info. She gave us back our pictures since we had some already in the original packet.

We were not asked very many questions.

"What day did you get married?" <-- that was for the both of us

"Tell me how your relationship developed?" <-- that was for me (the usc). I basically just told how we met, started dating, and the milestones such as first kiss, vacations, engagement etc.

^They asked fore clarification on all of the dates like were you engaged in 2015 or 2016... what year did you meet... etc.

Lastly were all of "no" questions such as "have you committed a crime", "trafficked drugs", "are you a spy" etc. These questions are the same that are on one of the forms and are standard procedure.

At the end she said we had passed, and she just needed the signature from a senior interviewer. Our case was updated that same day to card being processed. The interview process was much easier than I expected. No questions on our age gap (12 years, however it's the opposite of the Russian stereotype I'm a young American woman and he's the older Russian man.) It also probably helped that we met while in college.

I hope it goes smoothly for you both! Let me know if you have questions on anything else :)

Edit* we also had to bring passports, birth certificates etc, but all of these were given back since they already ad copies of them.

  6. @Bzlibem what was the RFIE package? We submitted our packets in November, and our interview is next week. We are having difficulties getting the 2016 tax return from our cosponsor. Also, my husband has completed 40 qualifying quarters in the US, so technically, I believe, we shouldn't need the form at this point. I'm just still worried since this all feels so uncertain! Thanks for the reply.

  7. Hi everyone,

Our interview for adjustments of status (my husband's) is next week. We used a cosponsor since I am in school still. On the notification that they sent us a list of items to bring. The one I have a question about is the following: "A completed affidavit(s) of support (Form I-864) with all required evidence, including the following, for each of your sponsors (unless already submitted):

    -Federal Income Tax Returns and W-2s, or certified IRS printouts, for the most recent tax year;

-Letters from each current employer, verifying current rate of pay and average weekly hours, and pay stubs for past two months:

-Evidence of United States citizenship or legal residence"

My question is since we already submitted the I-864 in November, do we have to submit the extra listed things? Thank you so much for any help. I really appreciate it!

  8. I really want my marriage to work, I didn't marry him to divorce later, I don't look at my life as I am an immigrant and he is the US Citizen, I care about having my family together and I'm shocked he's being so rude...I feel he has bipolar depression like he's late brother, I don't know anymore what to think.

From physical to verbs abuse, to passing out while watching our baby, all these happened and he promised to not let it happen but most of us know what those words mean actually, I'm not that naive.

He says he doesn't like me anymore and all other offenses.

He does have a 3 year old with somebody else, we "share custody" but the boy is not on his name, she was 17 when she got pregnant and the authorities don't know who the actual dad is.

We live in Wisconsin and I believe the law says we have to wait 6 months after we file for divorce until is all complete...

Why does the person who files has control? I want to have the family together and I can't have control over anything if he files?

By the way, I just got home and acts like nothing happens...

Irony of life: I have a social work degree, imagine that!

I'm from Wisconsin, about 3 hours from you. I'm so sorry that this is happening to you. Have you been recording what has been happening? Next time he physically or verbally abuses you, you need to call the police. Does he allow you to have a cell phone? If you are able to get proof of him doing anything to you; you can get divorced and file for a removal of conditions, so you do not need to rely on him, and he has no control over your immigration status. You don't deserve this abuse, and it is not worth putting your child through this. Please message or reply to me if you need anything.

  9. That doesn't sound like they didn't meet in person. This sounds like she never met his family in person. It sound like they have met and he even met her family already. At least that's what I think. I could be wrong.

Our entire relationship has taken place in person on US soil. There are no red flags. You are correct; he has met my entire family.

  10. Please read this:

Let me clarify... We met in person because I took a lab he was TAing for, and we hit it off, so we started dating. This entire relationship has occurred in-person on US SOIL. He is here on a student visa. I am a USC who is 12 years younger. Since we met, we have seen each other almost every single day in person! Except for during the summer when I've had internships. This relationship is basically like any other American relationship, it's just he's from Russia and on a student visa. There are no religious differences. I've even started taking Russian classes with my normal course work at college so that I will be able to communicate better with his parents when we go visit there some day. He is perfectly fluent in English with a slight accent. I go to a great college that is out of state of my home state, which is why we had to travel so he could meet my family. He skypes with his family that is in Russia, so that is why I've met his family over skype.

Please let me know if you need more things clarified...

  11. How big of an issue is a 12 year age gap? We're getting married this August and moving in together. We met January 2015, he was a Phd student and I am undergrad. He's met my parents in person and I've met his over Skype. I'm the usc and am the younger one. We've lots of evidence of a legitimate relationship. And honestly the age difference has never been an issue for us, only sometimes for people outside of the relationship. And my family loves him. Will this age gap give us any issues?

  12. I've been on the fence about whether or not my future husband and I (I'm the usc) need a cosponsor or not for the I-864. As I student, I do not make enough to sponsor him through my income alone. He, however, has made 125% of the poverty line for two people for the last 8 years in the US. His job ends when he finishes his degree this August. He has another job starting; however, this is a part time teaching job so the yearly salary is below the income requirement. If you combined his new salary, my salary, and then added our assets (they need to be divided and then added up don't they?), I believe that we would be above the income requirement. If one were to just look his tax returns from ;ast years the income requirement would not be a problem. But some of the things that I'e read is that, they want proof that that income is continuing? In this situation I would like to know what the best option is... I'm sure we could find a cosponsor, but if we don't need to I would prefer that. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need anything clarified!

  13. I am filing for my spouse and from my research it shows that we need to file the I-130 and I-485 concurrently.

We have lots of evidence of our relationship... thousands of messages, many many pictures, vacations together, and he came home with me for about two weeks last December. I also have many people that would be willing to write affidavit letters. We plan on making a joint banking account and combining bills. I will also be changing my last name to his! Overall, our relationship is very legitimate and if we could we would love to live together starting this semester. However, the time frame of 11 days would be extremely stressful to make, and I want to enjoy my wedding day rather than worry about getting the certificate as soon as possible in order to show it as proof to my university and then only have a couple days to find somewhere to live. Also residence and housing has not 100% guaranteed that they would approve it. We would really like to file this as soon as possible for work and personal reasonings.

  14. Hi, so my boyfriend and I are getting married this August (we're eloping). We've dated for about a year and a half. He's from Russia and is about to complete grad school. I'm still in undergrad. My campus has a residency requirement, which requires me to live on campus. I emailed the lady to see how I could get permission to live off campus, and she said I needed to show her the marriage certificate in order to get approved. This would mean that we would only have about 10 days to get married, get the certificate, show it to my university, and then find and sign a lease. We've decided that it may be easier if I continued to live on campus this semester, since it would be extremely stressful to find a place to live within that amount of time (I don't want to sign a lease before I get permission from my school in case of the slim chance that they do not grant my request). We plan on filing the I-130 and I-485 as soon as we can after we're married. My main worry about this is that line 21 on the I-130 asks for the last address that my spouse and I lived at. And in this case I wouldn't know what to say in that line since we've technically have never lived together, although I spend more time at his place than I do at my room on campus. I really appreciate any advice that anyone could give about this situation and what to put in line 21, I'm so worried! Thank you!
