  1. Hi,

Hopefully I am posting in the right place. I have a question regarding a 10 year green card renewal.

I went to my local service center for fingerprints in Los Angeles back in Feb and got a notice on 1st March 2017. They put a sticker on my greencard to extend it until 31st  December 2017. Upon checking the Potomac service center processing times, it looks like they are currently dealing with cases submitted in November 2016.  So they still have to deal with cases from Nov 16 to March 17. I've been trying to get an appointment in LA to get an extension on my passport but i never see any appointments available.  Since wee're going to visit family in Honolulu a week before Christmas, we were wondering if i should try to make an appointment there. Their appointments are fully open. I understand that you are supposed to go to your local service center (downtown LA for me) but was wondering if anybody has tried to go to another service center and was able to get help?

    thanks!

    Laurence

  2. thank you thank you! i hope it goes fast for you too guys!

    to answer Sami's question:

    I sent a 60 pages folder including:

    - 3 affidavits of support from physician friends (none of them notorized)

    - 2 joint returns

    - credit card statements, joint checking accounts statements

    - insurance policy

    - medical insurance, medical statements

    - letter from fertility clinic with both our names on

    - car loan

    - apartment lease

    - pictures of our religious wedding in France (with 80 people), honey moon, various vacations, my parents visit if NY...

I probably over did it but I wanted to play it safe. Nothing was notarized. I translated myself one document from French to English. that's about it!

    best of luck

  4. Hi!

I've recently sent my application to the Los Angeles service center. It was received by them on Feb 13th and the check was cashed in on Feb 25th. I am yet to receive the NOA. I'm wondering if I'm gonna get my biometric appointment/GC on time before i travel. My green card expires on April 21 and I'm traveling abroad on April 16th..

Has anyone recently filed in Southern California? Thanks for sharing your experience!

I've been searching a long time

    For someone exactly like you

I've been travelling all around the world

Waiting for you to come through

    Someone like you

    Makes it all worthwhile

    Someone like you

    Keeps me satisfied

    Someone exactly like you

I've been doing some soul searching

To find out where you're at

I've been up and down the highway

In all kinds of foreign lands

    Someone like you

    Makes it all worthwhile

    Someone like you

    Keeps me satisfied

    Someone exactly like you

I've been all around the world

Marching to the beat of a different drum

But just lately I have realised

The best is yet to come

  7. yes, that's the risk of bidding with priceline, you dont know for sure which hotel you will get. however they only have a limited selection of 4/5 stars and you bid by zones. So when you place your bid, you know which hotels you are likely to get, if you bid is accepted. We book hotels for business trips and find it fine for us.

  8. i use it for car rental and always got good deals. Also used it for hotel booking and wasn't disappointed.

    Check this website: www.biddingfortravel.com

It is a forum dedicated to priceline bids. It helps with the bidding strategy and you will also see how much people bid and what they got for the money.

  9. salut,

    bon dimanche!

  10. But I think that applies to currency and the like ... bonds, checks, stock certificates, etc.—things that are physically transported. You don't have to file a customs declaration for virtual money, do you?

it says an amount exceeding $10,000 or its currency equivalent.. so in British Pounds that would be approx 5,750 and yes it would also apply to an international transfer of funds. Even if you don't transfer the money and keep it in your account abroad, by law, you have to file a Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts form along with your tax return.

Wow lolo.. what you said is wrong on so many levels.

Spark is correct in that rule only applies to the physical transport of currency.

As previously stated, you can wire any amount you want without consequence.

As far as the tax implications go, Spark, the best thing for you to do would be to contact a qualified accountant with regards to international inheritance and gift taxes. I don't think an internet message board is the best place to get reliable information on this.

I find it surprising that you can just wire any amount but you're right an accountant should give an accurate and reliable info!
