She can just go ahead and start using it and change it on documents and with banks and authorities when she likes... The marriage certificate is her supporting documentation for this if ever it is asked for. :)

My worry is that we have paperwork etc filed for the AOS process, so when we progress with that, my wife will have a different name to all our paperwork.

I can't seem to find anyone that's had a similar issue on here!

  2. Hi,

My wife is a US citizen, (I am from the UK, in the US on a K1 visa, filed for AOS) and she want's to change her surname to mine.

I am wondering what this might complicate with regards to my application for AOS as all paperwork will have her maiden name.

I have my EAD and AP, and filed for AOS in October 2017.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thanks

  3. I've just submitted my expedite today and did not bother to call congress just faxed everything to them and they have since replied via email confirming they will work on it.

I have also received an email from USCIS requesting the evidence.. did anyone else get this and submit direct to USCIS? Or just leave it in the hands of congress?

I contacted congress same day as I requested the expedite and gave them all my documents. So by the time USCIS had sent me a letter asking for more information to be sent, my case was already updated to successful. I reckon congress can send your information on (hence the privacy release document), so you don't have to.

If you can, just wait a couple of days to see if congress can handle it, although I don't think that submitting directly to USCIS would slow anything down, so if you have the time, you may as well.

  4. Hi I was curious to know how long from your online status updating to card in production to receiving the card in the mail?

Hi! My status was updated to "New Card Is Being Produced" on Nov 10th, and I received the card on Nov 18th/19th (could have come in late post, I didn't check until the 19th).

I was wondering the same thing prior to receiving mine, from various threads I gathered that 7-10 days is the norm. Mine being 8/9 backs that up!

    Best of luck.

  5. Hi,

I just wanted to say a huge thanks for this thread.

I followed these steps pretty much to the word, including the letter to congressperson. I requested the expedite on Monday 7th, contact congress woman's office and sent all documents on 8th.

I just checked (today being the 10th) and my case has been updated to card being produced.

So, 3 days for them to sort, wow.

Best of luck to everyone in a similar situation. Do your research, prepare ahead of time and good things will happen!

    Thanks

  6. hi,

I recently moved to California on a K1 visa, got married, applied for my SSN and filed for AOS/EAD/AP.

I grew up in London, where public transport - be it bus, tube, train, taxi - was abundant, practical and affordable, so I never actually got around to learning to drive.

Now I'm in California I'm regretting this, hugely.

I am trying to find some definitive answers as to how I can go about learning to drive here, but coming up with not a lot of credible info.

I've found information on how to get a learner's permit, and information on how to get a licence if you're an immigrant, but can't find anything regarding getting a learner's permit AND you're a noncitizen immigrant.

In short, I am hoping someone may be able to tell me what I need to do to get a learner's permit so that I can get some lessons and take the test!

    Thanks

  7. Hi all,

I keep reading quite conflicting information regarding how to get a SSN.

I arrived less than 14 days ago so I am about to go to my local Social Security Office. However, we did already get married and file for AOS/EA/AP.

Will I be fine to go there with my I-94, Passport (with visa stamp), Application for Social Security Card?

    Thanks

  9. Hi,

My fiancee and I got married after I entered the country on my K1, and I'm now putting together our AOS paperwork. Questions in red.

    So far I have:

    I-485

I-864 (Along with supporting tax return & pay stubs)

G-325A (Do we need one for each of us or just for the one applying?)

    I-765

    I-131

    G-114

DS3025 - I have mine from London which says "vaccination requirements are complete for this patient". So I don't need to see a civil surgeon or do I still need to have it certified?

    Check for $1070

    Copy of Marriage Certificate

    Copy of Birth Certificate

Copy of Passport - Biographical Page

Copy of Passport - Visa Page

Two US Passport sized photographs with full name and A# on the back (I think I need more?)

Copy of I-129f Approval - Is this the I-129F with the "APPROVED" stamp? Or is it the NOA2?

    Anything I am missing?

  10. Hi!

my fiancee and I will be getting married in the Bay Area as soon as I am back in the US. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with getting the marriage licence and certificate, and had advice on the quickest ways to do so?

We are currently looking at the Santa Clara County Recorders Office, as you can get the licence and have an express ceremony in one day, however I cannot find any info on whether the certificate will be issued there and then.

As we will be immediately filing for AOS/EAD, we really need to find a way to ensure we have the certificate in hand right away!

  11. Hi All,

I had my interview Monday 3rd Oct, and my k-1 visa has been approved!

I am now waiting for the CEAC status to update, and have a question around this for anyone who has been through this part.

My CEAC status still says "Ready" despite being updated the day of the interview, I understand the next steps are for the status to go to "Administrative Processing" and then to "Issued", or can it go straight to "Issued" in some cases?

Also from it being "issued", how long was it until the packet was delivered/at depot? I am leaving for the US as soon as I get my passport back, and they wrote "ASAP" on my packet so I'm hoping that will speed things up.

  12. Hi All,

I have a question regarding filing for work authorisation and hoping someone may be able to help.

I have a job offer and will be looking to expedite the EAD issuance once I've filed for it.

I know that usually, the EAD takes 90 days so most wait until they get married to file for it (plus avoid double paying), but my question is if I am expediting the EAD process (and don't really want to rush my wedding) would it be better to file for EAD immediately and then AOS separately once we get married?

This way i can get the EAD under way as soon as i get to the US, and not have to go and get married in a rush so that I can work.

If i get the EAD before getting married do I need to apply for a different one once I am married? That's where my confusion lies really.

    Any help much appreciated!!

  13. Thanks for your help!

I would just like to post a follow up question.

My initial plan was to return from London, get married and then file the AOS and EAD together.

However, in the interest of getting the EAD process under way, and so that I do not have to rush my wedding, I am now wondering if I can file for the EAD and expedite it before filing for the AOS.

If I receive my EAD before getting married, do I have to file for another once I am married?

I am a little confused on the subject. I know that if I file for EAD and AOS separately there is an additional cost involved, but that aside, are there reasons this is not possible or not advised?

    Thanks!

  14. Hi,

I am currently in the states visiting my fiancee, I'll be flying home in a couple fo weeks to have the medical and interview and wait for approval.

i figured while I am here I could get some of the shots I need so it's one less thing to do when I go home.

Now the issue is, while getting my flu shot today, I had to put a US address down, so I put my fiancee's address (my hopefully soon-to-be address).

Will that be an issue when it comes to the medical and interview? Will they ask why my proof of immunization has a US address on?

    Thanks

  15. I have a job offer from a company in the US, but the offer has a start date that is very likely to be well before I receive my EAD - and I am not sure they would wait the full 90 days.

After speaking to a couple who were in a similar situation and some research online, I've learned that if you get the offer in writing and submit it as evidence you can have the EAD expedited. Also doesn't hurt if a separate letter from the employer states how vital the role is etc etc.

As far as I know there are a couple of ways to do this, the first being to get the EAD expedited as laid out in this thread http://www.visajourn...on-a-job-offer/ It's a bit old but it essentially says that you call a number and provide your situation and they make a judgement, I am not sure if the number is correct but worth looking into.

The other method is what the couple I know did, they contacted state officials e.g. Congressmen, and shared their situation, they were then given their EAD soon after. My understanding is that as long as you have the offer in writing, they will expedite on the basis that the sooner you're working, the sooner you are paying taxes.

I am still looking into this, but wanted to see if anyone has any recent experience with this, and any advice they may give based on that?

  16. I'm in a very similar situation.

I had a couple of potential employers who were ready to make an offer, but the EAD wait put them off a bit. One if still interested, but has to keep interviewing for the role in case my visa is delayed or rejected, so I am anxiously counting the days (interview on 3rd October) until I'm back in the US and at least on the way to getting my EAD!

Does anyone else have any experience or advice regarding expediting the EAD?

  17. I'm currently out of the UK so will be flying home for my medical and interview next month, just a question regarding time between the two.

As it says leave 4-5 days between the two, I have provisionally booked a Monday Medical and following Monday for Interview.

Was wondering if a Monday Medical and Friday Interview would be pushing it? Probably is but just wanted to hear if anyone has any idea of how long it usually takes.
