  1. From what I can tell, there are no Canada Day festivities going on in good ol'Utah :( I will wear my red dress to work, I'll wish people Happy Canada Day, and they will say "what's that?" (just like last year!). That said, we have these "peace gardens" near our house (it's a local park), and throughout the gardens, they have different areas that pay tribute to different countries. They have a Canada one. I think that on Canada Day, I am going to go there after work and hang out. Surely there has GOT to be another Canadian with the same idea in mind. You never know!

  2. Gosh, I will have a very hard time saying that dang oath. After reading these posts, I can definitely see more incentives for becoming a US citizen, though. I heard also that if you retire in the US and are not America, you cannot collect your social security. Is this true? Gosh I sure hope we live in Canada by then, but you never know!

  3. My husband and I jointly submitted our I-751 (with our slew of supporting documentation) to remove the conditions of my conditional green card. My conditional green card expires at the end of August 2009. The California Service center received our submission this morning :) However, according to the USCIS website, I-751 processing times are on average 6 months! Now I don't want to panic yet, but if I don't get my new green card by the end of August, and my other one expires, I will not be a legal permanent resident. Am I missing something here?? I have job and a plane ticket to Canada this October, and without a green card, well .... you know where I'm going...

  4. :help: Ok so I am very worried. When I crossed with my GM compliance letter (in May 2007), the customs folks did not ask for it, nor did they care about my list of goods. They were mostly concerned with my K1 Visa. The problem is that I sold my car 2 months ago, and gave the new owners my compliance form, the Ontario registration, etc.. Unfortunately, the new owners just called me and the state of Utah will NOT register it because they don't have the customs information!! What information are they talking about?? I have that compliance letter .. what else do I need .. and where/how do I get it at this stage in the game?? The neared land border is quite far away from me. PLEASE HELP!! :help:

  6. Ok so I've read a few other posts and apparently I'm not the only one with this issue - I just want to make sure I'm doing it right.

Let's keep this topic alive

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

  7. My situation:

K1 fiance Visa approved May 2007

Married US citizen in May 2007

Moved to US in May 2007

Green Card in Sept 2007 (yes I know .. warp speed ..)

Worked in Canada until April 2007

Worked in USA from August until now.

Ok, so I was taking a look at Canadian Revenues Agency's list of Rules and Regulations regarding non-residence tax submitting. There is plenty of information out there .. it's just a matter of sorting through it and trying to understand it.

My MAIN question is this: Do I have to submit any of my husbands information??? He is a US citizen and has never lived or worked in Canada. I didn't think I had to until I read this from http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/t4056/t4056-07e.pdf

    page 8.

    Information about your spouse or

    common-law partner

Enter your spouse or common-law partner’s net world

income for the year. Underneath, enter your spouse or

common-law partner’s net world income for the part of the

year you were a resident of Canada.

Must I really do this or are they referring to a Canadian spouse??? Hmmm.. I was only planning on submitting my T4 for when I worked in Canada in 2007 and my unemployment insurance information.

    Help!

  8. I applied for my AOS and EAD together a few weeks after my husband and I got married. This was back in June 07. To my surprise ... I got my "Welcome" letter last week in the mail followed by my green card which states that on it that "The person identified by this card is authorized to work and reside in the U.S." Wonderful. But I'm confused ... what about my actual EAD card I'm supposed to get as well?? My EAD case hasn't been touched since June ... but I already have my green card. Someone please clarify this for me. Is the EAD now part of the green card?? meh.

  9. OP here.

One of my best friends went thru the K1/AOS/EAD process back in 2003 and he applied for an AP to go back to Canada for family reasons. Apparently, this caused a further delay in the processing of his AOS. I don't know the details ... am waiting to hear back from him via email. Will post when I do. I thought it was strange too ... because I had not heard of this anywhere else (ie: visajourney).

  10. Ok, I am confused. I filed for my AOS and EAD on June 18, 2007. I've recieved notice that my AOS has been transferred to California. However, I have not recived notice saying that my EAD has been transferred (meaning that it's still with the National Benefits Centre (NBC). BUT, when I check the EAD I-765 processing dates for the NBC, it states that they are "Based on a pending I-485 adjustment application [©(9)]" - what the heck does this mean ??

  11. I am a K1 visa holder, residing as a legal alien in the USA, and currently awaiting my AOS and EAD. I would like to apply for advance parole (AP) so that I have the freedom to visit Canada as I wish until I get my green card.

I have heard that when you apply for AP, your AOS processing times becomes delayed further (??). Is this true? Has anyone experienced this or any other disadvantages to applying for the AP??

Thanks in advance, .. any input would be greatly appreciated before I fork out the new $305 fee.

  12. OK, my story in a nutshell:

I came in to the USA from Canada on my K1 visa this past May and have recently married and now reside in the USA. My husband and I applied for my AOS and my EAD and I am now thinking of applying for this I-131 so that I can go with my husband to BC for a work conference this fall and so that I can go back to Ontario early next summer for a wedding.

    So, my questions are:

    1) In the form I-131, I am applying for 'advance parole' and NOT a 'reentry permit' right?

    2) In question 3, what class of admission am I?

    3) How long does this take to get?

    4) Has anyone had any issues crossing the border with the 'advance' parole document?

OK.. I think that's all the questions I have for now. Thanks,

    ~linda

  13. OK, so apparently, my ROE in finally on its way to my house. However, I doubt that it says "relocation for marriage" as I had no idea I even qualified for EI until last week (well after my last day of work .. which was the end of april). will this be a problem ?? will a US marriage certificate perhaps be good enough ??
