  1. I am the petitioner. I am trying to sponsor my husband. I've been at my full time job for almost 2 years. I just got a part time job, which brings me way over (my full time brings me JUST to the poverty line). I got an RFE saying I need a joint. I got a part time instead. I will get a letter stating my income and that it's a permanent job. My husband has not been approved yet for his EAD.

  2. I just want to double check that the path we chose will work.

We got an RFE for my I-864, stating I do not earn enough to sponsor, and we need to find a joint sponsor for my husband, who is here on a K-1 visa, filing for AOS. We have had a hell of a time finding a joint sponsor, so, long story short, we decided to keep it in our hands and not get a joint sponsor, but for me to get a part time job.

We have until about July 15th to return the RFE. I start my second job tomorrow. My plan is to get 1-2 paystubs from this new job, plus a letter from them stating my position, what I make, and that it is permanent, plus all updated information from my main, full time job (6 months of paystubs, and letter), sent out by July 1st.

Does this sound like it will satisfy the requirements, even though we're not sending in a joint sponsor? I'm just wanting to double and triple check. We don't want to chance a denial. It's been a very stressful time trying to figure it out.

Thanks for your tips, advice, well-wishes...

  3. So far we've asked 4 different people to sponsor my husband. The first said no. The second said yes, but hasn't even filed his taxes yet for 2015. He filed an extension and is having issues with it. The third said yes, then said she did some research and decided not to take the risk. The fourth is still thinking about it, but I haven't heard back from. I have a full time job and have been applying for part time jobs and will start doing interviews soon. Hopefully I'll be able to get another job soon so we won't have to rely on anybody else. We're hoping my husband will get his work permit soon. If he does get a work permit and a job, will his income really count for our household?

  4. Thank you for your responses. I just read that it needs to be in the account for at least 12 months.

So what about me getting a part time job to make up the difference? Will it be counted, even though it'll be a recent job? As long as it gets me the amount I need it shouldn't matter the length of time I've been there, correct?

What other options do I have? I know I could keep asking until I find a JS. Is there anyway I could let my parents know it's not as scary as they think? I already told them we wouldn't take a dime from them.

A lot of questions, I know. I'm just trying to get it all figured out and make a plan of action. Thanks!

  5. I do not make enough to qualify to be a sponsor for my husband (k1 visa). My parents do not want to joint sponsor because they see the words "sue" and are scared that they could be held accountable if something ever happened. But they want to help us out. If they were to give us the money to make up the difference on what I make and what we need and we put it in savings, then gave it back to them, would this cause any issues? Would we have to pay taxes on it? Would it count as assets, as long as it's in my savings? Thanks for any advice!

Under by 5,000 so the total they would give would be 15,000. (3x the difference for spouse.)
