  2. Why? Because it says "never been apart since"?

It also says they'll start the CR1/IR1 process in October. That points to a beneficiary living abroad.

I live in the republic of Georgia - my home country. Both me and my USC husband are living here for almost two years. NEVER overstayed. :) And for any further random assumptions - We are by no means in a hurry to adjust my status. We are taking it slow.

  3. So what's your legal status then if you didn't adjust?

Not like I care or anything USCIS rules are pretty straightforward

You can not apply for parents to become permanent residents as a GC holder

I didn't adjust because I haven't started my process yet. Didn't start because I don't want to yet. Simple as that. :) Once again completely irrelevant to my question. You could have just wrote last sentence from this answer would be perfectly enough.

  4. you can apply when you will be citizen

but what do you mean by "able to apply for citizenship in 3 years"?

3 years rule works since the moment of becoming lpr

and your current legal status is in limbo... as it seems tourist visa overstay because of marriage?

so you might want to work on your legal status asap if you want to bring parents

they should totally visit on tourist visa tho... just in case if they will be homesick or just will not like it here.

Lol, what are you talking about? Overstay because of marriage? I did not ever overstay. There is no limbo. I know I can apply for my citizenship after 3 years from the day I get my GC.

Your answer is completely irrelevant to my question. Thanks.

  5. Hello dear VJ members :)

I want to eventually be able to bring my mother to live with us in the States. I apologize in case there already are ton of answers covering this case and I still post this topic, but I couldn't exactly find any so please bear with me on this one. So I'm planning on getting my GC soon(one year or more), and I know since it will be through immediate family (my husband USC) I would be able to apply for my citizenship in 3 years. Would I have to wait to become a citizen to be able to apply a petition for my mom? Or can I do that after I get my GC? Can my husband as USC apply for her?

    Thanks !

  6. Hello,

Can somebody give a guide for the safest areas/neighborhoods in Philly? I've already read that North part of the city is a big no no. I assume the south west is supposed to be the safest area. We are a young family with one toddler, who will be moving from Pittsburgh. The reason why we want to move from Pitt, is that we want to live in a bigger city with more things to do etc. We know that big cities are less safer but I'm sure there has to be good places to live so the unsafe hoods can be maybe avoided? I would love to find the safest and good looking neighborhood with pretty looking streets , close to shopping, parks and health care. We will most likely have a car, so public transportation doesn't have to be a priority but yet it would be still good to be close to that too just in case.

Thank you for all your replies in advance.

  7. one man's garbage is other man's treasure. Living in the US is the biggest benefit itself. especially when an alien is from a poor country.is it not big enough of a benefit that one is more safer, have access to luxury or have some of the basic living necessities like potable water, uninterrupted power and food. these are some of the basic stuff that one can't get in the poor countries. i am sorry but it sounded a little weird to me that you don't even remember the year you became a US citizen. seems like you are starting to have what they call the first world problems. on a lighter note, sponsoring your parents is a personal decision and what nature of advice from strangers here can help you on this topic ?

But you still pay for it! Nothing is for free, anywhere. You still pay for that ''luxury'', you still pay for that power and food which are extremely expensive compared to the prices the less wealthier countries have. Life in the United States is extremely stressful and tough, you have to work super hard to have those basic luxuries and things other countries don't have. And it's a personal decision if one wants to be under that constant pressure or not. If OP s parents have enough money to sustain themselves in Mexico I don't see any need of them relocating to the States unless they have to be there with their son and they just cant be apart. The moral is United States is indeed beautiful country with lots and lots of opportunities and things to enjoy but nothing is free. And nothing gets you just pure benefits and rainbow candies on a platter. All has it's price.

  8. So if we were talking about a man here he would be a crappy father for cheating too? Or is just cheating mothers and mothers? And in what way does what the mom do in the bedroom effect the child if she is otherwise a good mother? Just speculating as we don't know her or him.

I don't think you read my post or understand what I wrote. I precisely stated that we DO NOT KNOW neither of them and CANNOT speculate anything. I did not say just because she cheated she does not deserve to be a mother! None cares about the gender either! But you can't avoid the fact that what OP described about his wife does not exactly put her in a great light. But he might be just overstating we will never know right? Read again.

  9. But just because she cheats does not make her a bad mom....i know its bad shes done this but you are both adults and have a child. No matter your personal dislike of her have you thought about your child not having his mom around if you have her removed?

Mom is only one. The situation is bad but you'll need lots of proof to have her parental right terminated or removed.

It sad people use americans to get here but shes here and you have a child....now what?

Mom is only one but if mom is incapable of making good decisions and primarily jeopardizes her child's life, better not to have mom at all. It may sounds harsh and I DON'T KNOW her and she can be the most loving mother towards her kid. We don't know. It is hard to judge not knowing person, not knowing the whole situation, backgrounds etc. None can give you an advice what to do, since we can't know for sure how the things really are. And you probably want to see things that you want to see.. It's your call. But then again can't exactly ignore the fact about her cheating , STD.. it seems she has some serious problems, so it all depends whether or not she want to fix that for the sake of her and your kid or not. If her only worry is just to stay in the States then go ahead..do what you have to do and get away from her. Every child needs a mother but giving a birth to a human being does not make one mother, being able to raise that human being, protect and cherish makes her mother...You know which category she fall into. Forget your anger and try to think for our child as well and make decision according to that.

  10. You are not getting it.

For the intending immigrant to interview in Turkey, the intending immigrant must have legal status in Turkey other than a tourist visa. The intending immigrant can not interview in Turkey if he/she is there on a tourist visa.

How are you planning on staying in Turkey legally?

Well I think you are not getting it, or can't make yourself clear enough. Have you heard about working visas, permanent residence? As I've mentioned above if I would move to Turkey for a little while, it would be due to the job offer which itself includes me getting working permit/residence in Turkey. I am not crossing sea on a boat and hoping they will let me through the border so I can use their US consulate. Being employed as a teacher, signing international work contract makes me a legal resident there. If you mean that I need to be Turkish citizen then no, I'm not and not planning on becoming one at least not in the nearest future. All I am curious about is whether or not I would be able to use US consulate in Istanbul to apply and proceed with my Green Card application simply because I wouldn't be physically present in my home country and able to use my local US consulate for that purpose.

  11. If you are getting an IR1/CR1 spouse visa, then you won't even apply for adjustment of status in the U.S. Your visa process means you will be fully approved for a greencard with everything you do to get the visa. The day you enter the US on your spouse visa...BAM!...you are a permanent resident and your passport will be marked as such. The actual greencard will arrive in the mail when they get around to it, but no additional application or interview.

    :goofy:

  12. Wow this is amazing. Well congrats to anyone else getting theirs quickly. It's definitely made my life a little less stressful!

Congratulations! Amazing news :dancing::dancing::dancing: Every time I see these kind of positive posts it just brings smile to my face and gives me a little more hope (L) I just have a little questions to you guys: Does this ''Miracle'' happens only to K1 applicants? In my case, I will be applying for a marriage based GC , do you know any cases similar to this? GC in just couple months and no interview??

  13. Congratulations! (F)

I was really happy to find this topic , since your situation is/will be very similar to ours! We are planning on having a baby while living in my country and applying for my IR1-CR1 so all the fun is still ahead for us :reading: What really disappoints me is the fact that we can't use DCF even though my husband has local resident card and lives here for two years now! Just because we don't have USCIS office here in Georgia : ( But once again best of luck to you and your family and a smooth process in general, let the game begin!:dancing::rolleyes:

  14. Well, the IR1/CR1 process takes a range of 10-13mths to be completed.

The USCIS service centers all have varying processing times so you can check on those but they range from 2-5mths; you may get RFEs at this stage so that creates a further delay. Then you have the NVC stage which is based on ensuring the applicants are documentarily qualified for the embassy....you may get checklists for missing docs at this stage at times so that creates a further delay also. If you have no checklists then it's Case Complete and then on to awaiting interview scheduling at your country's embassy which is approx 1-2mths from your case being complete. Then you may or may not be asked for additional docs at your interview by the CO.

So after all I've mentioned, please see below:

    1. US$420 - Filing fee for i130 petition (per applicant - USCIS)

    2. US$120 - Agent of choice fee (covers all applicants - NVC)

    3. US$325 - Immigrant Visa fee (per applicant - NVC)

    4. US$165 - Green card fee; to be paid before/after POE in USA (per applicant - USCIS online)

However....you and your spouse will know the full extent of your financial situation. Best of luck to you! :)

Yes, I'm aware about the rest, was just curious about agent of choice, Thanks :))

  15. The Agent of Choice is the person or institution who is assigned by the petitioner (US Citizen) for the NVC and embassy to contact as the case progresses forward. This person can either be the US Citizen themselves with the applicants as a secondary contact OR it can be an immigration attorney if the applicants decide on using an attorney for their case.

By the way, is there a reason why you are choosing to start your Cr1/Ir1 visa in Oct 2016?

Yes, and the reason is not to wait till it's exactly 2 years since we are married, I'm aware that doesn't matter, the time starts from the day I actually enter the States. October is the time when we are going to be able to afford it: )
