  1. It can take anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours. It depends. I have been through chicago many times and watched all of the immigants just fly through through the line. When Katya and I came through it just happened to be the day after the bomb arrests in Canada so the bomb dogs were at EVERY POE and all people and luggage were scanned, etc. So it took WAY longer then normal. We missed our flight. However...the airline will always get you a new flight.

My advice. If the ticket works for you then go for it and hope for the best. If you miss your connecting flight, well, then you just have the airline book you on the next flight. Not a big deal.

  2. You know...I saw something somewhere. There was a study done with men and women. They had a whole lot of erotic/prongraphic clips and showed them to the subjects. The idea of the study was to see reaction differences between the sexes. The surprising thing was the differance in the focus between men and women. Men were watching the ACTION in the film. Women were watching the PEOPLE in the film. As a matter of fact most men couldn't even remember what the man and women in each clip looked like. They just remember what was 'performed' in the film. The women on the other hand could remember each and every hair and blemish on the 'actors'.

  3. I was born and partially raised in Ottawa, ON. Moved to PEI then to Chicago. Raised in Chicago (got USC) then moved to Phoenix. Most of my family still lives in Ottawa though.

what is with the Prairie people moving to BC??.....

heh...then they go to Arizona for the winter

No kidding! We have a TON of them coming here after Canadian Thanksgiving! I can't believe the number of BC lic. plates I see in Phoenix.

  4. You know...I have been thinking about what I said on the deleted thread about the American women that I chose to date before I meet my wife. I think it was the lack of balance in their lives that was the real turn-off. There was a total focus on work and their climb up the executive ladder and almost nothing on the family.

 As they say, to each their own. What you've just described is exactly the

type of woman I was looking for. Career and goal-oriented - the real turn-on.

I want a career and goal-oriented woman...but balanced with a desire for a family too.

  5. You know...I have been thinking about what I said on the deleted thread about the American women that I chose to date before I meet my wife. I think it was the lack of balance in their lives that was the real turn-off. There was a total focus on work and their climb up the executive ladder and almost nothing on the family. I guess it means that I just chose women who were poor matches for me. But those are the type of women whom I am surrounded by. It was just by chance that I found and fell in love with a woman while I was on vacation. And a big part of what I fell in love with is the fact that this woman is family oriented.

I know at this point I am rambling, but I am trying to put my finger on why there is a perception preference for foreign spouses. And I am doing a poor job...so I will quit for the moment.

Sorry guys...continue on with your reading...nothing to see here...

  6. To explain what I feel is inconsiderate.

Leaving in the morning without a goodbye.

Going to sleep without a goodnight.

Driving around St. Petersburg without knowing where

    we are going.

And she drives like a nut too!

Everything possible to make you feel unwanted.

The lady watching her son is from the north

of Russia. Where my friend is from. Her best childhood friends mother.

They are constantly talking. I ask where are we going?

Answer.. To an interview, I have to meet someone. ?????????

Today we went to a shopping mall.

She says lets go this way... Then she disappears!!

The lady... Galina. Is frantic, I am pissed. I found her an

hour later shopping in a store. I asked why she left us?

She offers to give me one of her cell phones to give to Galina.

Galina is a very nice lady.. We comunicate through a dictionary.

She is constantly apologizing to me about my friend. She says

that I am a good man))

Her son is great also.. I am his best friend))

But, she is a complete different person than before.

I said today to her. " You seem different than before "

She says... " I am different, I don't know why. Maybe you to "

She says that I probably need a fat ugly wife that will sit home and

worry about when I will be home.

All I want out of anyone in my life is to be considerate!!

What is wrong with saying.... I am going to shop. I'll meet you wherever

    in an hour???

I told her to find a flat and I would send money to pay.

    Guess what!! I did!!

I guess I am asking to much from this one((

We have known each other for 7 months. We talked regularly on the

phone and emailed at least 3 times per week.

I had a great time in July with her and her son.

She was a relaxed and caring person. Now she runs around like

a chicken with it's head cut off and doesn't seem to care about others.

I am sorry if this doesn't make sense. If I was in a country where I

could read)))). I would have a good time anyway. Since I paid for the flat

I will continue to stay here...and suffer))

After my relationships with American woman. I thought alone was the

    way for me.

By accident I saw and wrote to this girl ( she did not have the most beautiful picture )

She just seemed like a nice woman. When I saw her for the first time I was amazed

    at how beautiful she was.

Now she wants to marry a rich Russian man and she will reimburse me))).

Any advice on where or how to meet a nice considerate woman??

Again I am sorry about the rambling letter.

This was a struggle with some of my wife's friends. Fortunately, my wife is not like this. For some reason this seem to be acceptable behavior for SOME Slavic women. The culture does not lend itself to much in the way of courtesy towards the opposite sex. It is rarely given or received. I have found exceptions (my wife)...but not many. You are looking in the wrong country if this behavior bothers you.

Reading this thread reminds me of the MENA forum.

    Yeah! Isn't it great!

  7. A girl on a bed on all fours in a bra and underwear isn't provocative? okkkaayyyyy

Actually it looks like she just woke up and is crawling over the the computer to say, "I love you, but why the hell are you waking me up so early!"

  8. It has been REALLY hard for us. She is still running her businesses and things that are in Odessa from Phoenix. It is causing some problems. I have offered to move us there as she makes more money then I do. However, she is so AGAINST the idea. She thinks that she would be humiliated if her friends and family find out that she makes more money then her husband...or god forbid supports her husband. Kind of wierd in my American mind. Anyways...we are working through it.

  9. Distateful.....the exact word. No offense, a very pretty girl, but bad taste to put such intimate photos up on a site for all to see.

I'm sure none of the men will complain though..... :P

I think she's a woman, not a girl. Maybe your choice of words hints at the real reason you don't like the photos. :P

Actually...I showed them to my wife and she thinks the girl is cute and not provocative at all. I actually didn't look all that hard until someone said something.

  10. Joel, I'm not criticizing your POV, but what do you mean about there being an expectation of equality that makes it so they don't want a husband to stay at home? I just didn't quite get that.

Yeah...that came out poorly becuase I am finding it hard to put my experiance into words...let me give you an example of one women I dated. She was an exceutive at a local bank. She wouldn't mind having kids, but was instantant that her husband would not be the one to take care of them nor would she be willing to drop her career track. She wanted her husband to be on the same type of high level career track that she was on. As for the kids...well that is what nannies are for. And I didn't find her opinion that uncommon, assuming the woman wanted to have kids at all.

Does that make a little more sense? Maybe what I should take out of this is that I should have stopped dating the bankers and lawyers!

Anyways...*I* want a family. I also want both of us to have a career, but not at the expense of the family. I am willing (and would enjoy) being the one to slow down my career for focus on the kids, but I would like one of use to at least.

Finding someone with that balance was hard for me.

  11. :yes::thumbs:

Jinky's parents recently visited her two sisters who are working abroad in Ireland as RN's - they've been there now about 6 years. Her sister Jennith's fiance who is Irish said one morning as he was ironing his shirt, the father looked at him like he was wearing women's underwear. :P The father then called out to his wife to come and iron the shirt. Jinky and I just laugh about it. I think all cultures go through their own timeline of progress - Jinky's generation is much less into such rigid roles. What I find a bit ironic is that the Philippines have now had 2 women Presidents and they're democracy is much younger than ours (USA).

Yeah...When were at my wife's parent's house. Her father did the same thing when I was ironing! :-)

  12. To move the topic a little to the side. This is a comment on non-western women in general. I think that it is just plain hard to find American women who 'fit'. I wish I had a better word then that. I am 31 and middle class. Good job, good education, likes to cook, etc. The women I have dated who are American just haven't clicked for whatever reason. Often they don't want to get married, don't want a family, prefer career above anything else. That last one isn't a bad thing, but the side to that is then they don't want their husband to stay home to raise children. There is an expectaion for an 'equal' in the boardroom as well as the bedroom.

The best words I can find is that I was not fortunate enough to find an American who could find balance between life goals, me, and family. I DID find that in Ukraine. :-)

  13. arrrghhhh I do not think i have te strength :crying:

That made me laugh too! Every 4 months or so this poll comes up on VJ. It is interesting to see what the newest members of our group think. :D

As for me...If you love and wish to commit them please...GET MARRIED!!!!

marriage is a religious term and that should be the end of it. there is no reason why only gay couples should be able to get a civil union though. i would like one! I am not religious and would even go so far to say I am an atheist. why should I have to get *married*?

i am curious if opposite-sex couples would be able to apply for civil union licenses in states that approve or would we be turned away because we are not same-sex?

I agree completely. I want a civil union too.

I think I would agree to that as well. Maybe I should change my marriage into a civil union!

  14. Hey Veroka!!

I'm peruvian too, and to be honest I didnt' have any problem finding a job here (NYC) the fact that you are bilingual helps alot.

Try some web sites monter.com, craiglist.com,Hotjobs.com, I didn't have any reference but my experience in Peru ( I was a tour guide and worked with different travel agencies) was enough, the only confusion I had was when they asked about my last salaries, I never mention the amount in soles or dollars. I put the equivalent in dollars.

    Good Luck!

    Vi

My wife was a little cranky. She applied for all kinds of jobs in Phoenix that said they were looking for bilingual workers. She was a little upset when she found out that 'bilingual' in the US means Spanish/English. She thought she would be a shoe-in with English/German/Russian/Ukrainian.
