  1. I am planning to travel to Buffalo next week for a half day travel business to take care of a property matter. Is there any quarantine restrictions in the state of NY that I may find myself subject to. Does any one crossed the border recently and has any experience regarding quarantine for travelers to buffalo? I would appreciate any feedback

    OP is clearly exempt: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/03/24/2020-06217/notification-of-temporary-travel-restrictions-applicable-to-land-ports-of-entry-and-ferries-service

"shall be limited to “essential travel,” which includes, but is not limited to—

    • U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents returning to the United States;

Thank you every one. Yes you are correct. I traveled to the US as a "US lawful permanent residents" without any issues.

The New York state quarantine law currently only applies to some US States; it does NOT apply to someone coming straight from Canada. So, you will be able to cross into Buffalo without the need to quarantine and can attend your meeting. But as you mentioned, you will need to quarantine upon return into Canada for 14 days, even though you will only have left for a few hours.

Thank you for your kind response

You dont need to quarantine when you enter NY, you only have to quarantine when you enter Canada.

Thank you. We know that there is no Federal quarantine requirement in the US,however, I know that NY has certain inter-state quarantine requirements for travelers from certain other states. What I am not sure about until now if they have any quarantine requirements for travelers crossing the boarders to Buffalo.

For now, only essential cross-border travel is permitted. Essential travel is allowed for returning U.S. citizens, people traveling for educational or medical purposes, individuals involved in emergency or government response, cargo drivers and other "lawful cross-border trade" and military service members.

Thank you. I think that both U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents are exempted. This is what I understand from the document. May be I am wrong I don't know

Any way to send your documents by courier, or get someone to represent you?

Quarantine will be required for sure when you return to Canada.

Thank you. No way its important document that I have to take with me and I can't risk it with a courier. I believe that I will be quarantined for 14 days in Canada which I don't mind. I will call the US boarders port to verify if I will be required to stay quarantined in Buffalo for 14 days before I can come back. This is very confusing and mind draining.

You will be required to quarantine once you arrive back to Canada for 14 days. For the other question I do not know. You can’t conduct this business via zoom?

Thanks. Original documents must be shown so Zoom is will not help. If there is a 14 days quarantine requirements in Buffalo New York then I might just cancel  the trip. Can someone tell if there is 14 days quarantine requirements in Buffalo New York??

  8. I am a Canadian citizen currently in Canada but with a US green card. I intend to cross the boarders by car at one of buffalo/Niagara falls  crossing ports. My trip will be to do some business for two hours and then return back to Canada. Will I be required to quarantine in Buffalo NY for 14 days before I am allowed to cross the boarders back to Canada? because I heard that NY require 14 days quarantine.

Will I be required after this 2 hours visit to Buffalo/USA to quarantine for 14 days after crossing the boarders back to Canada?

  9. Called NVC last week and after a long hold they placed me on another two holds to double check if there is any thing holding my interview until now. They confirm that all is good but they were not able to estimate when. From their response I got the feeling that my case was over due for an interview. They said nothing other than wait a little.  Did any one of you called?

Does my husband need his university degree / transcripts to be authenticated/notarized by a US organization (i.e WES) or US Embassy in order for him to work in US (after he received his green card)?

A few months ago he got his university degree and transcripts translated into English from the University and then had them notarized by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

We are confused on whether or not he will be able to work in his field with his degree the way that it is now... translated and notarized by his country.

He's currently working in the telecommunication field as a performance engineer which does not require any other licences or certifications.

    Please advise.

By the way we are IR-1

    Thanks, Amy

    Salam alikom,

Just my opinion. I believe that he has to get his credential evaluated by a specific US entity to decide if his credential is the same as those similar in the US. After that he has to check the licensing requirements in his state. He might need to take some courses in the US to satisfy the minimum requirement of that state he is living in to just be eligible to set for the board exam. I think each US state board has different minimum education requirement that your husband must satisfy just to be eligible to set for the exam. After passing the state exam he must satisfy the profession's board buddy work experience requirements to be awarded the license. I suggest that he research and read a lot at the website of the board where you will live. In order to avoid surprises in his career he must research in details and ask questions. I wish you all the best.

    Hi,

No the $220 fee is in addition to the $325 IV fee that you pay to the NVC

? Fees!!! It never seems to end...

    Thank you.

The online payment page ask only for the Alien Registration Number (A-Number) and the Department of State (DOS) Case ID. It does not ask about my biographic data (name, date of birth,....etc) as mentioned in the USCIS Immigrant Fee handout that I received from the embassy with the sealed envelop. Is this normal? Do I miss something? Please your thoughts about it. Thank you very much

Wonderful news! Wonder why mine is taking so long? Must be my 14-letter surname that is causing problems like it did at the bank. I was told it was too long for their debit cards.

    Hi JFH,

I hope you doing fine. I have a quick question, Does the IV fee $325 which we paid during the NVC stage include the $220 for green car production?

I was not there with him, sadly. But I'm on Skype with him now, and he's approved!!! Everything went very smoothly!! YAY!!!

Congratulations for approval. It would be nice to hear back your interview review. My interview is scheduled at 11:00 in Montreal. Do you think if I went early that day 8:00 a.m I can get the interview earlier than 11:00? Is the way they doing the interview first come first served kind of a thing?

Thank you so much for answer
