  1. This is kinda unique and I am trying to figure out what to do.  I have been told that active duty military married to Japanese can apply for the green card while they are stationed here in Okinawa Japan.  That way when they get reassigned they do not have to split up the husband and wife.  I am currently a Status of Forces Agreement Contractor living in Japan.  I was engaged to a Japanese citizen when I was living in the US and in the USAF.  While the process for the finance visa was going thru I got out of the USAF and took a job as a contractor here at Kadena.  So my question is this....since I am SOFA status just like active duty military and the contract could be terminated just like active duty orders can be changed can I apply for my wife to get her green card while we are here?  Otherwise we will be split up for 6 months to a year if my company moves me or I try and take a job back in the US.  If this helps I do have a PSC 80 address which is basically a PO Box with a US address.  I tried calling USCIS but I could not get thru to a human.  The stuff I read stays I have to be living in the US but since I am basically assigned to a US Air Force installation with a PSC address and a SOFA visa I was hoping I would be considered for this purpose as living in the US.  Please help!

  2. Hello everyone,  So here is the deal....my fiancee and I were set to get married in the US when I was still in the Air Force.  I ended up getting out of the Air Force and in the process accepted a position as a contractor in Okinawa Japan (where she is from)  So my question is this....she has an approved K1 Visa but now that I live in Okinawa we want to marry here.  She is worried that there will be some issues if we don't use the Visa or somehow cancel the visa.  Will there be any issues?  Is there anything I need to do with regards to the Visa?  We want to marry in March here in Okinawa.  As always thanks!!!

  3. Hey I have a question. My fiance's I-129F expired on Nov 20, 2016. She still needs to get the medical exam and has not yet scheduled the interview. Here is the back story. I am a contractor for the US Air Force and was supposed to have a full time position at Kadena. While we were waiting for that all to go thru we held off getting the medical exam and the other parts of the final process to get the interview. Fast forward to now and it looks like my permanent position just became temporary and I will be there only till the end of the year. Is there anything we can do? Or will we be forced to do the process all over again?

  4. So I have a question, my fiance's visa is at the Tokyo embassy and there is about a 98% chance we will have to cancel it. I found out that I am more than likely going to be accepting a position in Japan that will start in October. Will this look negatively for us? We are still going to get married however it will most likely be in Japan. After we are married will we have to do the CR-1 Visa? Can she get a green card if we are living in Japan but eventually going to move back to the US?

  5. Hey guys I cant seem to find much on how or where to check the status of your K1 Fiance visa after USCIS approves it. I received our NOA two on 21 July. When I go to the USCIS website and enter our case number all its says it that it is approved. How will I know when the NVC receives it? After the NVC it goes to the Embassy in Tokyo? When does she get the packet 3 and if she moves how do I update her address?

Thanks for any information you can provide. We are excited that the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to show.

  6. So my fiancé who lives currently in Okinawa Japan brought up the idea of coming to visit for 80 days (to be sure not to overstay) while we wait for the K-1 to be approved. I have asked now two times on different trips with immigration if she could visit and each time they said up to 90 days on a ESTA. If she did this she would move back home with her mom and dad in Ishigaki Japan. So my question is in the visa paperwork her address is in Okinawa. Is it possible to update that address? Will this update further delay the process? Has anyone had their fiancé come an visit for extended periods of time while waiting?

  7. Quick question for you guys that are more knowledgable than me. In about 6 months I will be getting out of the military and transitioning to civilian life. We estimate that our embassy interview will be sometime around October and I end my military service in December. So how does that work? Technically I will be employed full time at the time of the interview. So what do I do?

  8. So a couple weeks ago I said I would ask the customs folks this question. Today I entered back in the US via Chicago and asked the question. The guy I spoke to said yes of course she could come on a ESTA for up to 90 days but just make sure she does not stay past 90 days. I also asked what she would need to have on her....he said return plane tickets would suffice. I mentioned having the K1 Visa application and he said that would be good as well. He basically seemed very common sense about it saying if you are going thru the trouble of applying for the K1 you guys are obviously doing it the right way. So there ya have it.....seems like you can as long as you are up front and honest about what you are trying to do.

  9. But is it not absolutely absurd that the people working the customs can not understand that if you have forked out all sorts of cash doing it the right way that spending 6-12 months apart sucks and of course people will want to visit while they wait? And then to be a rude ####### to boot. This is what is wrong with the whole process. If in my job I acted in that way I would get in trouble....why are they not held to such a standard. My fiancee would be terrified...is this really the impression that the US Government wants to present and what if anything can we do to hold these representatives of the US accountable?

  10. well that is good to hear....I am hoping our case is a "simple" case.....luckily I saved up tons of military leave over the past few years and I will be heading out there in July and then again end of August. I would love to have her come here to visit in Aug or September but I am kinda scared to based on some of the peoples experiences at airports when arriving here. I have a trip coming up to Europe and when I get back I am going to ask specifically if she will have any issues visiting for a week since Japan is on the Visa Waiver Program.
