I'm currently doing the same thing, joint bank account with my husband's, he made supp credit cards for me. In our bank accounts FICO shows that we have the same credit scores. I'm confused if that is actually my credit score or not since its the same. After months, banks such as Capital One, Citibank etc did offer me credit cards, but I tried to apply and was rejected. Ever since I stopped applying credit cards of my own, I guess this is because I am jobless?(been 8 months since I applied, and cos of it we have inquiries in our records) I even attempted to open my own bank accounts such as Bofa, Chase etc with only my name on it but was rejected too.

So is my credit score actually the same as my husband's or not?

Unfortunately I am not so familiar with this and whether you saw your score or your husband's.

When you got the offers, which credit card did you apply for first? Capital One is known for being a bad one. So it probably is easier to get it vs BofA. Also, every time you apply, it affects your score. So if you go and apply to 2-3 cards in a row, that is not going to benefit you. Probably the same applies to bank account. Maybe it is better for you to wait for a little bit.

I had a job almost right away after I moved so that could have been a factor but I don't know for sure.

  2. Here is what worked for me.

After I immigrated my husband and I opened a joint bank account (with just debit cards etc). As there were regular deposits, in about 6 months or so I received my first credit card offer in the mail. It was Capital One so a horrible deal but the point is to get started. Then I used it very little and eventually stopped using it all together.

That made my credit score excellent.  So after you can get real credit cards with low interest rates, apply for loans etc.

  3. Hey there,

Had an interview in Singapore on March 14. Didn't go as smooth as I was hoping. They gave me a 221g letter requesting an updated police certificate with different dates. Just mailed the certificate together with my passport to the embassy.

Based on other people's experience I would love to get a rough estimate on how long it should take for the embassy to issue the visa..? They mentioned 2 weeks, but I'm not sure how accurate that really is.

    Thanks everyone.

You can call NVC and ask them. It's odd that your package is in transit for two weeks and try contacting the embassy also. When is your interview?

Interview is on March 14. So there is still time.

Actually i found one package to Singapore, but it left on Feb 17, a lot later than the status showed "In transit". Hopefully, that's it. I should probably call NVC anyway though..

If you want to track your case click this link ->

When did your case leave the NVC? Call and check.

For example on DHL this is my tracking-

    shipper reference : EXP 15 FEB 2017A

date range ship from : 15 feb 2017

date range ship to : 17 feb 2017

    leave the account number

select the country : United Arab Emirates

    Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Thanks! I'm not sure of the exact date when it left NVC. But I've tried literally every single date (since the status became "in transit") and there are no packages to Singapore at all.....

  6. Congrats to everyone who got their interviews recently!! :jest:

I just got mine also. The embassy requires that I register the address on US travel docs. I registered and the final confirmation page for printing for some reason has a DS-160 confirmation number.. I applied for a tourist visa a while ago and the number matches the ones that was assigned back than. It has no relevance to my current IR-1 application.. Anyone faced the same problem? I don't know if it's normal or not.

Of course I do want also, but what if just tourist visa because thats fastest way and then I can just change her status here once we get married... I dont know, but thanks also for ur advise

If you do this (knowing IN ADVANCE) that you will get married in the US than she can't come on a tourist visa to get married. That would be visa fraud.

You can file K-1 while she is still a fiancee or CR-1 if you are already married.

    Hi,

I have change my embassy at NVC stage but this is prior to case complete. I waited for like 2 weeks for them to give me a new case number. So originally I was assigned in Manila Philippines. I would suggest to give them a call before they will schedule an interview and be in transit.  I have sent them email to make the change and my case was on hold as per the representative when I called NVC hotline 3 days after sending my request via email until I was given a new case number to proceed.

I have provided proof of residence attached in my email here in Singapore I believe you would need to send your passport copy and your work pass here which is about to expire.

I hope your request will be granted soon.

Hi, thanks a lot for your response!

So you emailed them requesting the embassy change and you were given a new case number in about 2 weeks, right? Did you need to request the address change as well (from Manila to Singapore, I'm assuming)?

The big question for me would be how long it will take for them to schedule the interview after the new case number is assigned. It sounds like for you that wasn't really an issue since you submitted everything before CC.

  9. Hi there!

I'm the applicant, I currently live in Singapore on a work visa but am a Russian citizen. Our case was just completed with NVC but we didn't get the interview date yet (i'm guessing it could be available any day now). The interview is to be scheduled in Singapore.

I'm having uncertainty with my visa status in Singapore and might not be able to get it sorted out. And if I do it might take longer than 2 months (expecting an interview within this time frame). I am considering changing the interview embassy from Singapore to Moscow.

Does anyone have experience with this? My main question is what would be a realistic timeline if i change the country while it is still with NVC? I read on VJ that if it is already at the embassy stage it might take months and will certainly delay the process significantly. I'm feeling pressure to act now (while it is still with NVC) to save time. Do you think that would work?

    Thanks.

  10. Hey guys! Really need some peace of mind.

Just called NVC as we hit the 6 weeks mark a couple days ago. The person on the phone told me that our case has not been reviewed yet.. And than that she is putting a request for a supervisor review and it might take up to 6 more weeks... :(

Why is this happening? Is that normal? Any experience on how soon we might hear back with the result?

    Thanks!

  11. Hi all and Happy Holidays to couples near and far!

My wife and I previously went through the K1 visa process and I moved out to the US for a couple of years. We were forced to move away before I was able remove the conditions from my 2 year green card. As I was not able to remove conditions, I abandoned my green card (using form I-407) as we knew there was a slight chance we'd be moving back to the states and I didn't want to be penalised.

Now, due to my wife's mother's ill health, we're moving back to the US and going the the IR-1 route as we've been married over the 2 year mark. We're in the process of completing the I-130 form and have a quick question - On questions 9 and 10 it asks if I (the beneficiary) have an SSN and Alien Registration number. Should I complete these using my old SSN and A number, or leave them blank?

Thanks so much for any help :-).

    Matt and Kim

    Hey there!

I was in a similar situation. I was an LPR a few years ago (on CR1), then my husband and I moved overseas, so I renounced the green card.

I am now applying for IR1 (already at NVC stage).

I put my SSN on I-130, but I didn't put my A number cause I actually had no idea where to find it...Either way my i130 got approved without any issues.

  12. Thanks for tips. Could you PLEASE PLEASE tell me more about the last part?

Is there anywhere I can read about it?

We just sent all the documents to NVC. We only sent 1 AOS (my husband's), his current income is from overseas, we live in Singapore. Do we need to also have a US-based joint sponsor? Can we send it to NVC without waiting for a checklist?

Also, my husband is planning to move to the US prior to my interview. However he might not find a job immediately. In this case the visa will be denied at the interview? What if we have a joint sponsor - is that enough to guarantee that the visa would be approved?

You do realize though at the interview you will need to also prove he will be in the united states before or at the same time of you AND have an income otherwise you will get denied?

  13. Hi there!

Actually, my husband called IRS and requested that they mail the tax transcripts to Singapore. That wasn't a problem at all, they already had our Singapore address on file (since that's the address he used when filling taxes). So we didn't have to submit W2s.

So just sent tax returns to NVC, correct? Without W2s? I know Singapore has the equivalent of W2 which is called IR8A. Request that from your employer. Also, if you still have time before your wife's interview, I would suggest giving IRS a call to request the tax returns. Ours took about 3 weeks to arrive at our address in Singapore. That may add some credibility because you need to submit either Tax Transcripts OR Tax returns + W2s - seems like in your case W2s were missing and that's why they asked for it.

Mind if I ask you if you just sent an Affidavit of Support for yourself or did you also need a joint sponsor? I'm freaking out of my mind because we sent all the docs to NVC but with only my husband as a sponsor. Now I keep reading that if the income is from overseas, then you need a joint sponsor. Any thoughts on that?

    Hi Jeniafrench,

Did you find anymore information about the W2 stuff? I also live in Singapore and almost done with the process as I received a case complete from the NVC. However, I received a checklist after the case complete asking for my wife to bring my 2015 W2 to the interview with her. I don't have a W2 because I work locally in Singapore. My tax returns I sent to them allowed them to complete the case and schedule an interview, but i'm obvously worried about the interview.

After reading a bunch of posts, it seems that maybe I do need tax transcripts even though it gives limited information compared to the tax forms. I attempted to get tax transcripts when I started the process in March of 2016, but never received anything. I requested them again but like you, I fear that they won't be able to send them to a foreign address. I heard that the IRS did have some issues with identity fraud earlier this year, so it's possible that they didn't send it last time because of that.

    Thanks

  14. Thanks for a reply! Could you please let me know where I can read more about it? Please help, since this is important but I absolutely fail to find any answers in any official sources...

So should we expect NVC to ask for additional joint sponsor's AOS? We already mailed everything with just my husband as a sponsor.

Will they not approve my visa unless one of the sponsors has a US based income?

You'll need a joint sponsor unless his current income will continue after moving back to the US.

  15. Hi everyone, I wanna jump in since I have some questions / comments.

My husband (the USC) and I are living and working in Singapore. We just sent the AOS + IV documents package. I was pretty confident about it until just now...

    1. Tax transcripts - all USCs are required to file on their global income. My husband did that, we called IRS and they mailed the transcripts to our Singapore address (they already had it on file). It was very easy and took about 3 weeks for us to receive them by mail. If IRS doesn't have your foreign address, you can tell it to them first, they will take some time to change it in the system, and then you can have them mail it to you. Either way, getting these while overseas is not a problem.

    2. I keep seeing on Visajourney that when filling from abroad the sponsor has to put 0$ as their current income even if they are employed. Is that true? I looked all over the AOS instructions and couldn't find it anywhere. So we put his real current income, not zero. If we did it wrong, please kindly share the information on why and where I can read more about it... We didn't use a joint sponsor since we thought his income is sufficient.

    3. We submitted some evidence of him maintaining his US domicile (not sure if it is strong enough, we'll see). But anyway he wants to move back to the US a month or 2 before my interview to look for a new job. If he doesn't have a job yet by the time I'm being interviewed - will that be a problem fo approval?

Thank you so much in advance for any feedback.
