  1. Hello,

I just sent the payment for the I-864, I was wondering any advice/pointers what I can do now to be ahead of the game. I'm guessing the rate of Which I'm going they're may be an interview for Aug/Sept. From those who went through the process what can My Wife and I do? I was thinking maybe for her to obtain an updated police record and also what I've heard lately is the Certificado de Migratorio, we met up a couple of times in Ecuador outside of Colombia so I'm wondering if she would need to obtain one and if so,, how does one do so? Thanks once again!!

  2. Good Morning All,

I just had a curious question, I'm sending a U.S Postal Money Order, I am almost done, this may sound like a foolish question but I'm stuck on the Pay to Address, with other Money Orders there is no need to include the payee address. I'm not to sure if I should add the Po Box address of the National Visa Center (Po Box 790135, St. Louis, MO, 63179-0135) where the payment will be sent... or should I just leave it blank? Any Info would be appreciated. thanks.

  5. Good Morning,

today I will be sending out my I-130 petition for my wife. I'm stuck on one question on the G-325a Form. The portion where the form asks you, your employement the past five years. My wife is self-employed (she sells, jewerly, cosmetics and clothing). from my understanding I would reference self-employed under the occupation (specify) box. What I'm confuse is the Full Name and Address of Employer. Should I just put my wifes name and home address? please help!

  6. Hello All, I have a curious question regarding the form G-325A. In the section where one must provide information regarding ones parents. My wife does not know when/where her mother was born. what should be the appropriate wording. It states in parenthesis (if known).. so I'm guessing it should say "Not Known"??? Please help. thanks

Is your mother-in-law alive? If so, your wife can try to get the info from her. If not, write "Not Known."

No she is not, she actually was reported missing on my wife's birth certificate.

  7. Hello,

I have question regarding the Last Name usage on the petition I will be filing. I-130 (CR-1). I want to use my last name for petitioning for my wife. Only one problem exist. The marriage certificate has her maiden name. I called the notary where we got married and he explained that the marriage certificates issued will only state their maiden name next to her first name. I've seen other threads concerning married name vs maiden name but their marriage certificates state their married name. Will this cause any problems. for instance for latin americans we tend to use the following example as the married name.

    Husband Name: John Franco

    Wife Name: Janet Cabrera

Married name: Janet Cabrera de Franco.

Any response will be appreciated. thanks for your time.

  8. Good Morning All,

Just had a curious question I'm about to start the petition for i-130 (CR-1) for my wife (colombian) and her daughters. My wife is in Ecuador on a tourist visa. Will I have problems during the process? In terms of proof of contact, I am calling her in a Ecuador documenting all our calls but what I'm not sure is will that work against us. I've heard stories on how the embassies in Colombia will find any little thing to reject the visa. She has not broken any laws nor is going to over-stay her visa. Sorry If I making a big thing out of something meaningless.

  10. Hello All,

I have a question regarding the g325-a forms I will file with the I-130. I am bringing my wife and her 2 daughters her from Colombia, I know I have to fill out the g325 form for myself and one for my wife. My question is will I have to submit the g325 for her daughters? Both her daughters are under 18. please help

  11. Hello All,

I was hoping someone can shed some light on my situation. I just got married in Colombia and I want to bring over my wife's 2 children. I opted to use the i-130. I have called the uscis center and rec'vd mix responses. My question is will I have to file and i-130 for each of her daughters? They are both under the age of 18. I understand if I chose the i-129f I would be able to do so under one petition. Please help

  12. Yodrak, I was just confused on where to start. I did not want to hold up the application with any disparencies. So I would use her married name under on the I-130 section c. question #1 under Name (family name in CAPS)?

    CHILLTOWN_JC,

Your wife "makes it official" to use her married name whenever and wherever she starts using it. The I-130 is as good a place as any and better than most - why do you seem to think otherwise?

    Hello All,

Curious question regarding the use of my wife's maiden name or married name. I just got married in Colombia and I have yet to send out the i-130. Once I start the application I know we will use her maiden last name and paternal last name. My question is when does she make it official to use her married name? I don't think there is no where on the I-130 to indicate her married name. please help

  14. Thanks Eva, for taking the time to answer my question. It was definitely helpful. I will definitely have more questions in the future. thanks.

    Good Afternoon All,

I am brand new to this website and hoping to receive guidance and experience from those who have gone through this process. I just got married in Colombia, and want to bring my wife and her kids here to the U.S. I am just confused on what would be the best method of doing so. I understand the process in terms of length of time. I am not in a rush just eager to file the right way/best way. I apologize if from time to time and I begin to ask foolish questions. Thanks for your time.

You need to file form called I-130, it is an immigrant visa application for immidiate relative. I belive each child needs one of their own as well. Visa type you will get will be CR1 ( if you have been married less than 2 years) and IR 1 if you have been married over two years. Process takes time , check out timelines of other people and stats. Don't forget to fill out yours so all in wait can have a better idea.

Guides describe everything step by step, forums have answers to all your questions. Just remember that we are no lawers and non-professionals, we are people with some ( or a lot for others) of experience.

    Good luck on your journey.

    Welcome to VJ

  16. Good Morning All,

Hope all is well, I am brand new to this website and I hope to receive guidance and knowledge through what will be a life changing experience for me. I just got married in colombia, and I have chose to bring her to the states by the k-3 visa. I have two questions, First is the k-3 visa the only option I have? My second question is regarding her current residence. She was born in Colombia but currently living in Ecuador on a tourist visa. Will this situation effect the visa process down the line? Please let me know if I have forgotten any key addt'l info. Your responses will be greatly appreciated.
