We missed reading the messages about 'waiting' for the email. So, once we had our case number from NVC, we scheduled the interview ahead of time, paid, and did all the paperwork online. When the fiance got the checklist (a few days later), they left a voicemail to confirm that he was the owner of the appointment. He called them to clarify and they were very helpful.

A little update:
Think I found away around it all and send of the papers to the embassy today so they will have them monday before noon.
