  1. Congratulations!!!

He should be able to get a SSN without a green card. There are instructions here on VJ how to. It's really easy, free and comes in about one week.

Just wanted to come back and say thanks for everything thus far! My fiance entered the US on Friday POE Chicago where he had another very brief interview and then finally landed in Florida where we live. All I can say about this journey is wow...so thankful we made it. The journey is not over but at least he's here! Next is become the Mrs. and more paperwork! From what I've read he can't get a SSN or driver's license without his GC so we are in transition and adjustment stage now...hopefully not for long.

  2. This is a very common practice in Nigerian culture. The groom will ask for a blessing from his family as well as the bride's family. The groom will fund all of these activities, not the bride.

I'm sorry I'm not trying to burst your bubbles but I find this post questionable. I don't know how long you know or have dated this guy but asking for blessings from elders or family to marry outside his tribe????? Buying food, snacks and drinks??? I hope you did not pay for any of that?

  3. POE was "OK". He said the interview there was more stressful than the one at the embassy! They asked him basic questions about my job, when we're getting married etc but the guy was just rude and kept cutting him off. All in all, it went ok. His flight landed at 1:50pm and we were together by 3:20pm. So, everything including baggage claim took 1.5 hours. Not bad.

congrats! my visa status says ISSUED now . im waiting to pick up my passport and leave :)

    how was the POE experience?

  4. Honestly, him not posting Facebook pics of the wedding isn't that suspicious on its own-- some people just choose not to share some things so personal and intimate online. HOWEVER, everything else you've shared are red flags-- the biggest of them being that he didn't tell his kids or their mother that he is married. I am so sorry that this is happening to you....all of us Feb 2016 filers have all supported each other through this journey. :(

  5. Congratulations!

I'm am sooo excited typing this! My fiance had his interview today in Lagos and was APPROVED!! All of the waiting and frustration was well worth it and I owe a huge THANK YOU to my VJ family! To go through this process without the knowledge and support here would have been tragic. Nigeria is deemed one of the tough countries and I have only visited once and only for a little over a week. Thank God for favor!

I will type a full review and update my TL later today but wanted to pop in and give the great news and say THANK YOU to everyone here. To those still on this leg of your journey, stay strong!

  6. Congrats on your wedding and nice to hear you guys have settled well :)

Thank you. Everything is going well. My boy started school monday and I was SO nervous but he had a great start and have been happy everyday I pick him up. He has a really great teacher so that really helps!... He is doing so good with his english already :)

We really enjoyed our wedding! I can't wait to hear back from the photographer to see our pictures :D

The only thing that really irritates me is that I can't drive! I makes me crazy!!!

  7. Thanks so much! We've just been checking the status online. My fiance isn't in Lagos so he'll have to travel there to go pick it up right before he travels :)

The 10 day line seems to be the standard script. Some get it in 10 days, others like us didn't lol.

Congrats! I'm glad everything has worked out! Thanks for updating...my fiance's interview is in exactly one week and I know they usually say to come back for visa pickup in 10 days. So did your fiance go to pick up or did you all just wait to check status? I'm asking because my fiance lives 8hrs from Lagos.

Thanks so much! I hope you've settled well in Georgia. It's been almost two months for you. Hope all is well :)

    Congrats! :)

  8. Hey everyone.

Our group is so quiet now but wanted to say that my fiance's visa status finally changed to "Issued"! it's been 13 business days since his interview and tomorrow makes three weeks. We were kinda freaking out a bit cus the 10 days they told him had passed but when we went into AP yesterday, we were hopeful. Next step is his arrival. It's been quite a journey of patience but everything has gone well. :dancing:
