  1. I got this message and actually emailed the person. She really did have an email address from the TLC domain. I straight up told her that unless we got compensated A LOT, we weren't interested. My privacy is valuable.

    Any word on the compensation?

  2. First of all thanks to each and every person who replied and gave precious advises in my other post. Some how I convinced myself to give some more time to this relationship and not take a decision so early.I will be eligible to remove my conditions on the Conditional Green Card after 2 years and according to the research I did on this website I will have to submit extensive evidences. Now the biggest issue is that my wife is the biggest procrastinator I have ever come across in my life. She always wait until the very last moment to do things which are concerned with me. She does not want to add me to her employee Health Medical Insurance Plan-she says currently she is paying $30 and if she adds me she will have to pay $200 which I don't understand why. She says "we cannot have a Joint Vehicle Insurance because If one of us gets into a wreck then the other person's Insurance Premium will go up". She says she doesn't care what Immigration Officer wants to see.According to her,US Citizens don't do all this. She says she will tell the Immigration Officer on his/her face and ask him/her if he/she has a Joint Vehicle and Medical Insurance with his/her spouse. She is very reluctant to help me learn how to drive on her car,she says I will have to pay her 24 thousand dollars if I wreck her car while learning how to drive and doesn't wanna talk about the Immigration process and what we need to do to collect evidence. She says we will have a Joint Bank Account for name sake.Basically she does not give a damn about all this.I have talked to her and have tried to make her understand the importance of all this but there wasn't any use.I am added to her Apartment Lease and that is it.I need advice from people what else evidences should I start collecting and I want to know if what ever my wife is telling me is true.

I don't mean to sound insensitive or rude as I don't know the back story but may I ask if you have some kind of physical disability that prevents you from going out and getting a job of your own with your own health insurance and so therefore you can afford to buy yourself some driving lessons. This is the USA and here everyone has to live an active lifestyle with hard work to be able to afford the good life. Depending on your wife to do things for you is just lame. Thanks to her, you're here what else do you feel she owes you, bro?

  3. Dubai is not pre-clearance; we immigrated via Dubai, so I know this because we very definitely spent an hour + at SFO in secondary waiting for them to clear a family before us....!!

Apart from issues with transferring luggage on non-codeshare flights, you also need to think about the possibility of your first flight being delayed. If for any reason it is, and you miss the connection, it is entirely up to you to bear the costs of the missed flight (possibly on a non-refundable fare?) and rebooking a new one. With codeshare/all on one ticket this will be dealt with automatically - whether holding the connecting flight for you or ease of booking you onto the next available flight at no extra cost. Having missed more than a few international connections through delays of the first flight, even when it seemed like there was plenty of time between flights (one was nearly 4 hours!), I'd be very wary of booking flights like this.

    Good point. Thanks

  4. I am currently putting together the AoS documents to send to sponsor my husband.

My current W-2 wages is under the federal poverty level. However, I do have enough assets to cover the minimum amount (if I go the asset route).

I noticed the instructions do say that distributions from retirement, stocks, etc are okay. It doesn't mention income from rental properties specifically (it only mentions property later on as perhaps a non-earning asset).

My question is if passive income from rental properties count as the income I can report in the "Part 6. Sponsor's Employment and Income"? The amount from passive income alone is enough to cover the minimum income requirement. And the properties are listed in my taxes as rentals. However I do not receive any W-2 or any other forms for them (just the Schedules needed for rental properties) because they are personal property (not run separately as a business). Also due to depreciation and renovations deductions, the properties essentially don't really factor in as "taxable income" after all the deductions are made.

If I can report my passive income from rental properties, then I don't have to go through all the hassle of verifying the value of my assets. Does anyone know if this is okay to do?

If you're not declaring income from these properties on your tax returns then NO. I understand depreciation is a add-back non cash expense for bankers who analyze your income tax return for a loan but remember the COs at embassy are no accountants. They wouldn't even bother adding your assets if they're in multiple accounts or multiple properties. They want things cut and dry. One account reflecting the sum of all the assets that may cover the support. 3x income requirement if sponsoring a spouse (5x for sponsoring other family members). In your case if there are no other dependents in your household then you'd need 1 property appraised at at least $60,000 clear of any loans on it. ie. $60,000 in equity. otherwise $60,000 in cash sitting for at least six months in ONE bank account. keyword ONE account. I tried doing this using multiple accounts, it didn't work.

Otherwise, just get a joint sponsor. Someone who earns enough on w2. Collect their passport (copy), w2's, 2 paystubs, job letter, and 3 years tax return transcripts and send that in with a new i864 for the joint sponsor and it'll be done.

  5. No, it's ok. The doctor was going through a checklist from the US embassy during the medical and checking of genitalias was not on there, so he was just following the instructions as provided by the US embassy. The US embassies do have to follow the laws in the countries they're in as well as agreements between the countries so I guess that's why some part of the visa process varies from country to country.

And a doctor wouldn't be arrested for something like that in Scandinavia.

That's possible. I'm sure US has to abide to Scandiniavian law in order to operate there. There has to be agreements and understandings.

  6. So this is a travel question. Not an immigration question.

I was wondering if anyone booked flights through different airlines to travel to a certain destination, let's say USA. At checking in for your first flight from point of origin to the transiting airport can you check your bags to be transferred directly to your next flight, as you won't have time to pick up your bags at transiting airport and rechecking them in with your second airline. Would the first airline accommodate you in this way?

To explain things better. Let me illustrate with an example.

So let's say you're flying from Islamabad to Dubai on Emirates airlines. You'll stopover in dubai for 3 hours and catch a flight on American Airlines to New York.

So can you check your bags at Islamabad to be transferred automatically to AA flight which will take you to jfk? Since, you don't plan to go out of the airport at dubai and claim your bags and then recheck them etc... Let's say you booked both tickets separately? It's not a codeshare flight or anything.

  7. A visual and physical inspection. Yes, he was not happy about it at all. I've heard some patients just reported a quick glance and others had doctors a little more hands on. ;) Guess he had the bad luck of the draw.

    S'ok. He's moved past it I think.

Oh this is for your husband's medical. Yeah, men always get the physical treatment. It's just the nature of the beast. The docs, they have to hold things in the palm of their hands and idk... weigh said things or something like that. life is so awkward.

  8. I'm sure there are reasons for it. Exactly what those reasons are, as you can see from the answers above, people can only venture to guess. Maybe doing a Google search would be your best bet for finding the answer, if in fact there is an answer that is public knowledge.

    Ok, so I decided to do some research and get to the bottom of this. It seems the visual check is for std purposes., at least that's what the official story is. From USCIS website;

"The Technical Instructions also state that for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) other than syphilis, the medical history and physical examination must include a search for symptoms or lesions consistent with chancroid, gonorrhea, granuloma inguinale, or lymphogranuloma venereum. Further testing should be done as necessary to confirm a suspected diagnosis. There are separate instructions for the syphilis evaluation portion of the examination. An inspection of the external genital area is required because several STDs are included among the medical conditions that may make an individual inadmissible to the United States. See the medical history and physical examination component of the Technical Instructions on the CDC website at: http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/technical-instructions/civil-surgeons/medicalhistory-physical-examination.html. The Technical Instructions do not require or recommend Pap smears. Routine chlamydia testing also is not required. However, the Technical Instructions recommend civil surgeons to the CDC’s Sexually Transmitted Disease Treatment Guidelines (http://www.cdc.gov/std/treatment/2010/toc.htm) . This guideline recommends gonococcal treatment which is also effective against chlamydia because of high rates of co-infection."

I just think they should make sti tests standard for everyone, and eliminate the whole visual inspection thing. There's nothing that can't be caught in tests that an quick may find or miss and it is just uncomfortable and awkward.

  9. While it's a differnent country my wife's K-1 Visa was delayed for almost 3 months while we waited to get some additional documentation required by the Embassy leaving her with only a couple of weeks to enter the USA. We were able to 'discuss' with the embassy and with a new medical got an extended date. Although that was before the visa was attached to her Passport. In any case I agree with the poster above. I can't see the harm in requesting an extension with the understanding that it is likley that if granted a new medical would be required. Good Luck to you and your wife.

That's good to hear. That's what I was thinking, they should be accommodating in this way. If a person is moving to another country forever, it's very likely they may need time to comfortably make the move, esp given, our 1st 3.5 months out of 6 were absorbed by the AP.

  10. Checking the genitalia is not a requirement for the immigration medical. It's done in some countries but not all, it's not done in Scandinavia for example.

I would think it's to confirm the sex of the beneficiary, to prevent same-sex couples from pretending to be of the opposite sex to get the green card. The law changed last year to finally allow same-sex immigration, I guess the procedure of checking the genitalia hasn't updated yet to reflect that new law.

I wouldn't advertise that if I were you. I heard of cases where immigration certified physicians were arrested for neglecting to check out the required genitalia visually during medical exams.

As was implied in my husband's 'check' at Knightsbridge, the doctor seemed to be looking for physical abnormalities or testicular cancer (though I don't know what physical abnormality would make a person ineligible to receive a visa).

exactly. i'm curious, has anyone been denied a family based visa because they failed the medical exam?

they are looking for sign of female genital mutilation among other things

this makes sense, however would they deny a victim visa? Not to sound insensitive but I mean whats done is done, right?
