    first FAQ

"1. Can I marry my fiancée overseas and still bring her on a K-1 visa.

A: No. K-1 visas are available only to persons who are planning to be married. If the marriage occurs, you will have to file an I-130 Relative Visa petition for your spouse. The one exception to this rule is that if the marriage was religious or social ceremony only, and the marriage wasn't registered with the local government, a K-1 visa may be issued."

seems to me like its possible. I'm not saying the consulate would like it but they don't want you to be legally married and you aren't legally married. But that doesn't mean that I recommend you show up with pics of the wedding as 'proof of engagement'. but if an american law firm who specialises in immigration seems to think its the exception then i don't see why it wouldn't be the exception.

and i dont see how the POE officer would find out. i doubt any POE officers take your packet when u reach the poe and then immediately ask "did you already get married in brazil?" i'm sure they just look over the paperwork and that's all.

    just my thoughts..

  2. Pretty straightforward, same as the pinned threads really but here it is anyway.

Arrived at waterloo and got picadilly line to bonds street station and then walked up the street following the directions on the map they gave us. No need to push the buzzer when i arrived, just pushed the door. Told the lady on the first floor that i had a medical with knightsbridge doctors, she asked me to write my full name and birth date down and then take the elevator to the 2nd floor. Elevator/lift was straight ahead on the right.

When arrived on second floor the receptionist welcomed me and asked for my passport, picture, vaccination record and medical questionnaire. i handed them over, she wrote some things down and then handed me another questionnaire, just a few boxes to tick and a signature. When i handed it back to her at reception she handed back my passport and told me to come with her and change into a gown.

I did so, locked my stuff in a locker and then waited for a nurse. she came out and told me she didn't need to see me because everything was in order (I heard that we needed 2 MMR jabs so i got my 2nd earlier this week from my local NHS Dr.) and handed back my vaccination card. I then waited a minute and a female doctor called me in to her office and asked me some questions, normal disease questions that i had already filled out on the sheet, just confirming.

Then took my weight and height and tested my eye sight and then did other normal medical check stuff, blood pressure, breathing stuff and that. Dr was really nice, really friendly, very chatty. Then took a blood test and told me that no news is good news and that if i dont hear from them everything is fine and they will have sent it to the embassy. She also asked me if i had had chicken pox and checked that off. Then i left her room and waited outside the X-ray room for my chest x-ray. longest part of the whole thing actually.

When i went it i had to stand in a some what awkward position in front of the xray, hands on my back, flat against the x-ray. she took it, checked it was ok and then said i was all done.

I paid the receptionist and changed and was on my way.

My appointment was at 3:30, got there at 3:20, was out by 3:50. no time at all!!!

come on packet 4 and interview!!!!! :D

  3. So I lived in the U.S for 7 years when i was younger and things seemed to be a lot different back then, i was on an L-2 visa and when we arrived in the US i was just given a SSN. So i have one, and I'm a british citizen coming into the US hopefully next month on my K-1 so I'm wondering how the whole process differs in my situation? Especially as, as far as I can tell, I dont need to apply for a SSN as i already have a number and instead just need to 'correct' my SSN, both to my new visa status (my old SS card says 'not authorized to work' as L-2 visa holders aren't) and update to my new last name after marriage. So can i do that at the same time after I get married, or does it have to be seperate visits? Obviously, I can apply for AOS ASAP as I already have the number.

I dont really know if anyone has the answer as i'm sure the majority are applying for the first time for a SSN.

just wondering if anyone has had this experience?

    thank anyone who can help!

  4. hello!

On the IV-15 check list after ticking all the boxes you have to sign it, write your full name, address, case number, date of medical examination and date of travel and date of wedding. Yet it says at the beginning of the packet you should not make final wedding or travel plans until recieving visa. therefore, in those spaces do i write "as soon as possible" or "as soon as getting visa" and "in 90 days from arriving in america"

im not sure. i know many of u filled this out so just wondering what u wrote.

    thanks!!

  5. I'm going to be having my interview soon so im just reading ahead to understand the next part of the process. so i understand the AOS, EAD and AP parts but what im curious about is studying. While your waiting for AOS to come through can you study? what about if your k-1 is expired? is there any kind of form for that or is it just allowed? haven't really read anything about people studying so i was just wondering if anyone knows the drill?

    thanks for your help!

  6. LOL. I have a friend at Uni at Bournemouth, she loves it. I haven't been there since was a kid, though. Which is a shame, since living near Brighton I didn't live too far way. Does Bournemouth have a sandy beach? If so I might take Mark down there, to prove we have them!

Yea bournemouth has sandy beaches that is for sure! however..it is not english sand...its imported. from spain i believe! if u can imagine that! I'm going to brighton next week, never been before.

  7. my last touch was 6/17 too. and we heard all this stuff that CSC was sending out the RFE's already and that we would have them by friday or they would send them on friday or something. And still nothing, meanwhile VSC has sent them and had them returned. why cant CSC hurry up? honestly!

  8. This might be a stupid question but what are forms DS-2053, DS-3024, and Ds-3026? When looking at the forms that arrive from the London embassy in packet 3 I cant find any of those there. and why do we have to submit our G-325A's again? surely they already have all that info from the original visa app? or do they just ask for it again?

  9. My NOA1 is 4/6.

I too have had a lot of touches, the most recent being on 6/17. I was transferred from NSC to CSC and recieved the 6/14 email saying that they had recieved my petition.

Still nothing about RFE. Surely if VSC is getting theirs on the move CSC cant be too far behind can they? I sure hope not.

Does anyone have a number for them that actually reaches a human being eventually?

  10. So is there anyone from CSC who has got an RFE?

I'm glad that VSC has at least started sending theirs!

I too was touched on June 17th. My NOA1 is April 6th.

As soon as anyone gets their RFE snail mail let us all know what it says? would be very interested to know.

Glad that when it was estimated that RFE's were going to be sent in late june that it wasnt just some false hope. Seems like they may actually getting up to date and we can get all these processes back on track.

Lord knows we are all desperate for that to happen!

  11. The USCIS informs us that our I129F has been transferrred from Nebraska to California. I live in Washington State. So any ideas on the reason for the transfer? Anyone else with a similar experience? Yes I called the USCIS and they provide no explanation. So far my only issue is the CA office is 2 weeks behind the Nebr. office :crying: .

my fiance is in washington and the exact same thing just happened to us. he got the notification today. i have no idea what it means. perhaps they have decided california has jurisdiction over washington? i hope it doesnt put ours applications back....
