I regularly check for appointments at my local office as my proof of status is expiring soon. Surprisingly, today is the first time I’ve ever seen appointments available, so keep trying!
Nice! Will continue checking

Thank You, but I think they have rolled out the new process of calling USCIS: https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=7f2612dc-d156-4915-9d08-1f7ba85cab6a

Just to clarify this statement for @Motorcity0214----you CAN travel even though your physical green card has expired---you do NOT need to get this renewed---so long as you get an i-551 stamp (which is done for free through an infopass appointment) in your foreign passport, which gives you proof of status for up to one year and allows you to travel/re-enter the US just as an unexpired greencard would.
Keep in mind, if you wait until AFTER your green card is expired to get this stamp---they will then tell you to renew the GC and pay the fee. So you'll want to make sure you get the stamp before then if your card is ready to expire.
I would encourage you to get the stamp in your passport (BEFORE the green card expires so there is no fee) as a precaution incase you do end up having to travel for emergency purposes----things happen, you never know....
Thank You!

Hi - Is anyone else getting an error "No Appointments Available" when trying to setup an INFO PASS appointment? No Calendar, nothing?
-
Thanks Everyone:
Per "Ask Emma" on the USCIS site, looks like my wife will be okay as we applied for her citizenship well before 6 months of expiration:
"If you apply for naturalization 6 months or more before the expiration date on your Permanent Resident Card (formerly known as an Alien Registration Card or “Green Card”), you do not have to apply for a new card. However, you may apply for a renewal card if you wish by using an “Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card” (Form I-90) and paying the appropriate fee. If you apply for naturalization less than 6 months before the expiration date on your Permanent Resident Card, or do not apply for naturalization until your card has already expired, you must renew your card.

Hi Everyone,
My wife's 10 year green card expires on January 2019, but her citizenship case won't be completed until March 2019. So, technically she won't have a green card for 3 months. Should we renew her greencard as well? Seems like a lot of money for 3 months (barring any complications). Will this affect her citizenship (N400) which is already in process.
Thank You!

Hi Everyone,
Not sure where to ask, but we were a little late in applying for citizenship for my wife. She's a permanent resident "Green Card" (10 years) which expires in January 2019. However, her citizenship status has an estimate of March 2019 for completion. Do we need to extend her Green Card? It just seems like a lot of money for 3 months (barring any issues)?
Thanks for your help!

I finally received my biometrics appoointment, but the odd thing is that it's scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving. I'm surprised that a government office is working. Anyone else get their appt. for the 28th? I'm going to call the USCIS office tomorrow to confirm.
So much for going out of town. Good luck to everyone else for a speedy approval!

I'm glad that I got my Biometrics appoinment letter. All in all it took about 2 1/2 weeks from NOA1. The odd thing is it's scheduled for November 28th? Do you think the government offices are working the day after Thanksgiving? I was planning on being out of town, but not sure if it was a mistake or really set for the 28th.

Thanks Everyone,
I guess there is no rhyme or reason. We just have to wati~

Hi Everyone,
How long does it typically take to receive your Biometrics Appt letter? I've seen a range from one week from NOA1 and others, watiting a month or more? It's been about 2 1/2 weeks for me, but just curious if it could have gotten lost or placed in the wrong mailbox? Will calling the USCIS help to find the status of the letter?
Thanks!

Hey Everyone,
This may be a stupid question, but if you get an RFE, do they send it separately from the initial notice? We just received our NOA 1 indicating that they received our paperwork, and it shows that they cashed the check, etc... And I don't know if it's standard verbiage, but in the third paragraph, after they explain the Biometrics information: "If you haven't already done so, please send documents supporting your relationship....as this will help with the process". We sent it all in, but not sure if this is standard verbiage or if they will send you a separate notice indicating what else you need?
Thanks in Advance -

Just wondering, do we need to have our letters notarized like we did for the I-485? Thanks!
Thank You!

Hello,
My wife's conditional green card expires on November 9, 2008. I just realized that counting back 90 days, I am still good? For some reason I just thought three months, which means September 9th. Stupid me. I'm working on the paperwork and plan on sending this week. I should still be within the time frame, right???
Thanks!
Thanks! I'm planning on sending early next week. It's nice to know I've still got 29 days!!!

Greetings all. My lovely wife received her green card about a year ago (conditional). Can she travel internationally with just the green card?
Thanks
Rick
She can travel anywhere she was able to travel before with her passport. She will still need a valid passport from the country of her citizenship. The green card ensures she'll have no trouble returning to the US. If she needed a visitors' visa for certain countries before, she'll still need it now. Hope that answers your question.
Hi Margot - Quick question, my wife also recently received her conditional two year Green Card and will be travelling back home to visit Family. I'm a little confused on whether or not we need to get a re-entry permit or not? Any thoughts on why someone would need a re-entry permit or is it totally fine for her to go home for a month?
Thanks!
I know you were not asking me, but I know the answer, so I will reply
If she's going to be staying with her family for over a year, then she will need a re-entry permit. Otherwise - no. (there are exceptions to that, but in general, that's how it works).
What good would a green card do if it didn't allow you to return to the US without any additional papers?

A re-entry permit is not necessary for a trip of a month in duration. A re-entry permit is only for those permanent resident who are out of the US for longer than year but less than 2 years. Her GC and passport is good enough.
Thanks Zyggy!

Hi Everyone,
My wife recently received her two year conditonal Green Card - Woohoo
(six months ago). We're planning a trip to visit her family back home. Actually, she's leaving before me since i've got to work, but I'll join two weeks later. She'll be there for about a month, but I'm concerned that I did not apply for a "Re-Entry Permit". Is this necessary since she has her Green Card and valid passport from her home Country (South Korea)?
Any advise would be helpful and this is definitely the best site as it has helped us in our Adjustment Process! Let me know if I can help you out as well~
