hi to everyone. We're supposed to have our medical next week and the interview the week after. But prior to all that I took my k2 for a check up and found out he has "walking pneumonia" and is now under medication. Prior to all this he was treated for primary complex (child tuberculosis) years ago so he will still come out as positive in the skin test as I understand. So what do i do, do we delay our medical until he is completely cured from pneumonia or will a doctors certificate saying that he is under medication sufficient? Also, I will need another certificate stating that he has been treated for primary complex, correct? Thanks in advance, we are at a loss on what to do whether we push through with everything so soon or delay.

US embassy Manila prefers that the joint sponsor for K1 is an immediate relative of the petitioner (ex: parent or sibling). They do not have to except the co-sponsor for a K1, but each case is different. We have seen approvals and we have seen rejected applications.
If the K1 visa application fails, you can take the spousal route. You would marry in the Philippines and then file for a visa In the IR1/CR1 category, the joint sponsor can be anybody (relative or friend) as long as they meet the requirements. This process the CO must take the sponsor.
A Joint Sponsor must meet all these requirements;
1. Be over age 18; AND
2. Be either a USC or LPR; AND
3. Be domiciled in the US; AND
4. Meets or exceed the 125% poverty level with income and/or assets for his/her household size
These are the poverty levels that USEM and USCIS use:

K-1 filing with a co-sponsor
You fill out the I-134 and provide most recent tax transcript, letter from employer and/or most recent pay stubs. Co-sponsor fills out their own separate I-134 and provides the same types of documentation, plus proof of being a USC or LPR. Any USC or LPR residing in the US that meets the income requirement for their own household size plus the foreign fiancé(e) can be the co-sponsor.
BTW you may want to look through the current history as this topic was just post 2 days ago and last week.
I wish you luck on your journey.
Hello, thank you for answering.
The co sponsor does meet all requirements. I'm just worried cause the petitioner is still a student w a part time job plus there is a k2. we'll fill out and pass all documentation needed plus we thought of having a notarized document stating the co sponsor will finance and support whatever needs etc of the applicant. We unfortunately can't take the spousal route because same sex marriage isn't allowed in the PH. So this is our last and only chance.
would you have any tips? I read scheduling the interview as early as possible is the best time.
Thank you.
I have never been asked for an Affidavit of Support from my August 30, 2016 interview and most recent VJ posts claimed that they were not being asked for an Affidavit of Support. I really wish you a good luck and hope that you will not be asked for that.
This is great to know. I sincerely hope the same happens for us. By any chance did you or have you heard of others who had a K2?
we also thought of showing a bank account w a couple of thousands saved would help. do you think it would?

This may be of interest or somewhat helpful:

As far as I know they do not "allow" co-sponsors for K-1 visa..
While the father may make a good income, you said would be household of 6(to include you, a K-2 beneficiary and your spouse). That is quite a few people for that money annually, even though again it is still a good income.
Each case in unique and have their own specifics, same as the person performing the interview at that time has their own opinions/looks on things.
Wish I could state more specific answers to help with this issue and hopefully someone more knowledgeable on this issue will be able to give better answers. Best of luck and hope all goes smoothly for you both.
Thanks for your response. I've already read those and I understand your point.
Yeah as I see it, like much of it is based on the consuls mood and his opinion. I really just pray and wish for the best.
Thank you

We're already at the point where we are gathering all documents necessary for the interview.
Our worry is what are our chances of approval because lately we've been reading that the manila embassy doesn't accept joint sponsors or its a case to case basis. Has anyone lately been approved at manila using a joint sponsor? And what situation were they in? In our case, petitioner is a medical student, joint sponsor is father, household of 6 (including the petitioner, beneficiary and a k2). Fathers income is around 80k at the least annually which is well above the needed amount. Thank you for your help. Would also appreciate any tips.

Hi. My fiancee and I met online in 2012. We spent the first year surviving on text messages, Skype calls, etc. We met in person exactly one year after and since then have seen each other multiple times (I even moved to the Philippines from the US and started attending school here). We have a lot of evidence of our physical relationship. We have pictures, receipts, itineraries, etc. My main concern is our one year spent communicating just online. We barely have any surviving screenshots. We have a whole chat log saved of our texts but they are .. irrelevant, R-rated, and just unfit, it seems. We only have 10 screenshots of bits of our texts/chat conversations. And we have just six screenshots of us two on a video chat Skype call. The rest are 18 pages of picture collages of us physically together. I even have scanned copies of our boarding passes. Does this seem like sufficient evidence? Should we be adding more of our online relationship?
I'm worried because my fiancee and I are a same sex couple. We are both girls and both feminine. Would this relationship appear as fraud? Do we have to try harder to prove evidence of our relationship?
Thank you all on VJ in advanced for being so helpful.

hi i was just wondering about the payment method if both me and my fiancée are located in the Philippines now. We will be filing from the Philippines and have no personal cheques too.
Thank you!

Another lawyer without a clue. Jeez! Full of opinion, low on facts.
Now there are no guarantees with the K-1 visa and a co-sponsor, but co-sponsors have been accepted quite often with the K-1. Big plus is to use a close relative - her mom, that is a must with USEM and the K-1.
Thank you so much, Hank! I've read some .. mixed reviews about hiring an attorney for this etc. Would you happen to know if my mom's gross receipts are a total of 88k (meeting the poverty guidelines) but after deductions, the adjusted gross income goes down to 20k (no longer meeting the poverty guidelines) if she is still qualified?

Hi, Im glad to have stumbled upon this forum, Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to this, any help is greatly appreciated.
So, My girlfriend and I have recently decided to apply for a K1 visa. She is an American citizen while I am a single mom to an illegitimate child from the Philippines. We met online and have been a couple since 2012. She visited a lot over the course of two years until finally applying for dual citizenship (her parents are Filipino) and moving here to the Philippines to continue her schooling last year. Due to personal reasons, we decided that moving to the US would be the next best step for us. After lurking on the site we attempted to gather and fill out documents and decided to consult with an attorney about our chances and the process. Because she's still a student, we thought we could use her step mom as our co-sponsor but were told by the attorney that due to the high volume of applicants lately here in the philippines, all applicants using co-sponsorship wouldnt be entertained.
Naturally we were crushed but I remembered reading a similar post on here about it and a lot commented that this wasn't true but is there any follow up on that? There was also a mention of a student couple who was approved using co sponsorship, i would just like to know how recent was this? Also, just wondering, being a same sex couple would there be any discrimination against us?
We were already getting gathering all our evidence and filling out documents and were really bummed with this news.
do i continue w medical or wait?

Thank you for your response and yeah i already asked our doctor, and she said she could make a certificate saying he's undergoing medication for it but I was just wondering is that was enough and if they would honour it as we would be having the medical while he would still be on treatment or do i just wait till everything was clear on his chest X-ray.
