For anyone who has had a recent INFOPASS appointment in the Atlanta office, what were you allowed to bring in with you? Were women allowed to bring purses or not? My appointment is tomorrow at noon so I want to be prepared. Any recent information would be welcome.

Its pretty much as MaryandMian said. Security is pretty much like airport security, empty pockets, remove belt and watch. Make sure that if someone is coming with you that they have ID ie GA license, otherwise they won't let them in. I was asked for Infopass appointment letter, passort and GC, I wasn't asked for SS card. We didn't take our mobile with us just in case that we had to be turned back.

So you were also transferred mid-March. It is too bad that they can't update the file for something like that unless another event triggers the update:-). Anyway, congratulations. I assume you got the passport stamp without a problem? My appointment is next Wednesday.

First of all, I apologize, but I have some really dumb questions...

Paul's card expires in 4 days!!! When we were approved for the 2 year, we signed an affidavit saying we would file again in 2 years between Feb 2- May 2 2008. I guess we're not late as long as we have it post marked by the 2nd, am I right? Please say yes!

And....

While the case is pending, is he allowed to still work here? His drivers license also expires on the 2nd of May, will he be able to renew it?

As far as I am aware, there are probably better people to answer this, you are ok as long as you file with in the Ninety day period preceding the expiration of the green Card.

As for being able to work, once USCIS receives your application I-751 Removal of conditions they would send out a NOA saying they have receive your application and the letter gives a 1 yr extension. Saying that these may take a while to get to you or not at all if you filed at TSC just recently so you will need to get passport stamped. Until then you will be in a bit of limbo. I suggest that you get you application off to them as soon as you can and make an infopass appointment to get your passport stamped, you will probably need proof that it has been sent and received.

As for drivers license, it depends on the state you are in, Georgia pretty tough and i have had problems in the past. be prepared that you might not be able to renew until you have the letter or the stamp in the passport. Also they may only renew the DL up to the point that the letter or stamp is vaild for.

We are getting ready to file for removal of conditions, as my GC expires on May 15th 2008. We have planned a trip back to the UK in March and was wondering if it would be a problem with just over a month left on the card at the date of my return. I assume that as long as my GC has not expired that I should be OK. I have heard in the past that traveling with less than 3 months on passports is not advisable and I was wondering whether it applies to the GC card as well.

When you return to the US, go to the USC/Residents line and breeze through with your Green Card and passport. Hopefully collect your "Welcome Home!" from the nice officer.

Don't bring back any meat products.

I received my green card with conditions back in MAy we are going Back to the UK in November for a 2week vacation. My question is this, I don't need anthing more than (like AP) my green card and UK passport to get back into the US. I am Pretty sure that all I need. Please could someone confirm this.

What does "Chicago part of the USCIS" got to do with it? I-765 is processed by the National Benefits Center in Missouri (which has a Chicago mailing address).

Sorry I didn't realise that it was the same place, What I mean't was,that where ever the EAD is approved ( I assume the NBC with the chicago Lock box address is it) might not know that the CSC has approved my Green. I my experience with Goverment agencies it is very rare that the left hand knows what the right hand has done.

Hello There. We, my filipino wife and I, have the same problem as you. BUT, we have yet to receive an approval. Our AOS was sent to Atlanta July, 2004 and we were transferred to CSC Sept, 2005. Our marriage was June 22, 2004.

I noticed that you ask for a referal on May 5, 2006. Then you got action!!! What is a referal??? Should we do the same???

WE called the HELP line and were told that it was a decision that the CSC would make as to receiving a CGC or PGC if there was no interview. However if an interview is made then the chances of receiving a PGC was good if the interview was two years after the marriage.

Yes I got action after i called and asked fror a referal to be put on my case, but i cannot say that my approval was linked to that. You can do the same, but it will depend on the last notification that you got from the USCIS. They would be very reluctant to put a referalon you case if you just had a notice from them. usual you have to wait 30 days past the waiting period on the last notification from USCIS before they would put a referal on a case.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this was his third EAD application. He already had 2 previous ones and since the last was about to expire, he sent in another renewal application. That's why he's frustrated. On another post, he mentions receiving his approval notice after just getting back from mailing the EAD renewal application. I would be annoyed too.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the OP is annoyed at not getting a 10 year card, which in this case would tell me that the EAD is the least thing he's thinking about at the moment.

For any immigrant, the EAD is an investment.

I just thought that I would clarify some things. Firstly, dmartmar, Yes I agree with you, having a GC is a privelege and not a right. Yes i was annoyed that i didn't get a ten year GC, not because I felt cheated, but because ifeel that there a lack of consistency in the way things are done. It seems to me that a lot of decisions made on applications are probably based on how the immgration is feel that day. If there was set guidlines as to what we are to receive and when it would probably cut a lot problems/ expectations. Aslo If you had look at my timeline in my signature you would see that i was applying for my 3rd EAD when I was approved for my GC. What difference does getting a 2 year vs. a 10 year GC make to you, when the USCIS was gracious enough to even give you one in the first place w/o having an interview? You should be glad and consider yourself one of the few lucky ones!

Yes you would be right that i am lucky to get a green card whether it is 2yr or a 10yr. What i was getting was the inconsistency of the immigration service. As I am sure that all of us are aware it that it is a expensive and time consuming process and if we can try and get it done with less expense and time, which we should have a right then we should exercise it. They have already taken $180 in feesfrorm me for an EAD which when it will be approved will be meaningless because i have got a green card.

Why don't you try an email request to CSC asking them why you received a 2 year card instead of the 10 year card since you had celebrated your 2nd anniversary by the time they approved your application. Since they are the ones who made the decision perhaps they can explain it. Good luck.

I ran into this situation back in July 2004 with our Boise, Idaho office. My approval date was July 7; I had been married July 1, 2002. I went back into the office with my card and marriage certificate, pointed out they had made a mistake and that I should have received the 10 year card. They told me basically they had the right to issue the 2 year card as nowhere in the law does it clearly state in black and white that after a 2 year marriage do they legally have to issue a 10 year card. They had run into this situation in the past, had checked with their lawyer on it and he told them they were within the right to issue the 2 year card so until there was something clearly written in black and white, they will keep issuing the 2 year card first no matter the length of marriage. The Supervisor also told me she was aware other immigration offices do issue a 10 year card after a 2 year marriage.

Take your card back to the office and question them about it, you might just get lucky.

Congrats on finally getting the GC!!!

You definitely should have received the 10-year GC, not the 2-year one. What is the "effective date" on your GC? If it is more than two years from your wedding date, I would get an InfoPass appointment and see what they say.

Sure, I would have liked them to wait a bit longer and issue a 10 year card but I am pleased as I can be to get the 2 year status as well - no more waiting and wondering and worrying!

I finally recieved my green card yesterday after wait ing exactly 2 years. The green card that they have sent is a 2 yr conditional one. My question is this, my card was approved with out interview by the California SC and we have been married over two years on the date of approval so shouldn't the green card be a full 10 yrs. Can anyone help or do I need to post elsewhere.
