  1. Go to https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx and login. If you've paid your fees and submitted your documents and forms you should have two fields marked N/A. Once your case is complete they will usually mark your AOS fee as N/A instead of PAID. That's what three N/A's means.

  2. I know we have a few Canadians on this thread....I was wondering if anyone has applied and received their police clearance letter? We went in and simply filled in the online application and it didn't have a recognizable place for a middle name so we just simply filled in Surname with her married name and then her maiden name in maiden name. For Given name 1 we filled in just her first name with in the comments specifying her middle name. The check came back fine but it only references her first name and both of her last names(maiden and married). In speaking with the records department in Toronto they specified if i wanted a search on middle name i should have included it on Given name 2 or included in in given name 1 area. I thought i would get others thoughts if they have gone through this already. Here is the link of the form we used.

Hmm... my wife went into OPP and filled one out. The paper form has a spot for middle name, so I can't really speak to this one. I think if you want to be extra sure (which wouldn't hurt), do another one with the middle name. It will probably just depend on the reviewing agent whether that would be something they would notice and/or require.

  3. That's correct. If they deny it and I have a 10 year ban, there are couple of ways to go about it: wait 7 more years since I've been out of the US for close to 3 (which we're not doing) or apply for a waiver to the ban. I'm not sure how easy it is to get one of those approved but I do know they take 6 months to process. We would be getting a different lawyer if we have to attemp the waiver, our current one is hopeless. I'm trying to stay positive and so hope for an approval but I'm realizing it could go the other way very easily. It's definitely trying times for us, I can't even express the feeling, I've never felt like this in my entire life.

My wife has a one-month overstay and we were very confused to begin with, and thought that meant she'd have a three year ban (6 months is the visitor period, she stayed 7 - we thought it meant if you had stayed over 6 months TOTAL). Obviously we were wrong, but I know that terrifying feeling, at least somewhat. Not on the 10 year level, but 3 years apart might as well be 10 in my eyes... We were all set to just move to Canada, or any place we could if Canada (for whatever reason) didn't want me coming in.

Most lawyers seem pretty clueless (amazingly so). Maybe immigration law is the easy way to just be a screw up and not really try very hard? I don't know. I hope you can get the waiver through if you need it, but hopefully you can get everything done without all of that. I wish I had some good advice on what to do or who to call =( I can only wish you the best at this point.

  4. what exactly did your date email look like after you sent your documents via email

    It was from NVCInquiry@state.gov:

    Dear Sir/Madam,

The National Visa Center (NVC) is processing this immigrant visa case. Please read the attached information and follow the instructions.

This message contains confidential information for the person named in the attachment. If you are not the addressee, please notify asknvc@state.gov.

If you do not want to receive email correspondence, send a request to "Opt Out" of email to asknvc@state.gov. Please DO NOT REPLY to this email.

    National Visa Center

    32 Rochester Ave.

    Portsmouth, NH 03801

It had an attachment with the filename of <CASE #>-<BENEFICIARY'S FULL NAME>.rtf with the contents:

    *[CASE NUMBER]*

    03-MAY-16

    Dear Sir/Madam,

The National Visa Center (NVC) received your documents on 27-APR-16. We are experiencing a high volume of incoming mail at this time. Please allow 30 days from the date we received your mail for the NVC to review your documents. We are diligently working to reduce our review time and appreciate your patience. The NVC will notify you after our review if there is additional information required or if we are able to schedule your case for an interview overseas.

  5. hey everybody i hope you are getting closer to your destination :clock:

i have a question those who are living abroad

which kind of apps you are using for calling NVC because if you use regular phone from here it cost a lot of money i don't know if there is any cheap apps or free app so that we can be in contact with the NVC ?

    thank you all

I just use a Skype # to call. Unlimited world calling isn't too bad of a monthly rate if you have decent Internet abroad. I think we pay a couple dollars (US) a month for unlimited Canada/US, and the world calling is maybe $12 or so.

  6. Mine took 4 1/2 months at Nebraska and 1 1/2 months at NVC. A lot of it seems to be preparation, petitioner's country and plain old luck.

Plainly put, there are many small steps in the NVC process where things can go wrong. If they do not go wrong, it should be fairly quick. If any one, or a combination of them, do go wrong, it can significantly increase the time spent, especially with regards to a checklist.

It helps to have everything ready beforehand and to call NVC daily to get status updates as soon as possible in order to get to the next step(s) as quickly as possible.

  7. I am incredibly sorry to hear that - I think that's incredibly unfortunate that, with some petitions, they seem to drag their feet worse than a spoiled three-year-old away from a free candy store. I'm always of the persuasion that you should get what you pay for, so I complain a lot when that doesn't happen (I guess I should thank my Mother for that). I hope that the situation resolves itself soon, but I don't think it hurts to light more fires under their backsides.

  8. CONGRATULATIONS!

Wish I was there with you! My last scan date was April 18 :clock:

OMG!!! gryphon!!! Congratulations!! This makes me happy! I'm positive it's Case Complete. Wooohoooo!!!!!

Thank you!! I'm really surprised - I didn't expect it this soon, but hopefully with some of these being quicker than expected it means they're moving quicker - I can only hope! Keep the faith, FxL, sounds like you should have yours any day now!

  9. YOU GUYS I'M FREAKING OUT !!!!!!!!!!!

I'm shaking because I went on the website like every other night not expecting any changes because it's only been a week since my scan date and I have 3 N/A!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if to believe this or not. I'm freaking out omg! I will call tomorrow to make sure.

    Scan date was 5/6/16

Holy moly! I guess you got paid back for having to wait for the USCIS to NVC transition =P If things have really moved that fast for you, super congrats!

  10. I think initially everyone was supposed to get this email but they had a delay in actually sending it. It's the only justification for people with scan dates in April getting it until now. I also had not gotten anything and I just got it today.[/quote

Update I call nvc just now, I got a checklist. The say my document was reviewed yesterday. My scan date was 4/12

    Uggggh... I'm so sorry.

I did not get any email so far. I called NVC a week after my express mail to conform my scan date. All of us want our relative to join with us as soon as possible but ... Try do some thing keep busy... It stressful but we just can do that much. Any one know how to track NVC work on scan date? And what what scan date NVC up to today?

Yea, that is very true. It's one case where it's not going to make anything go faster - we're just waiting on them to finish, not waiting on them to get to a certain point so we can send Yet Another Piece of Evidence. It's just curious how wildly random everything about this process seems to be. It's definitely a good use of the phrase "consistently inconsistent" if nothing else :P

The best way to track is the scan date spreadsheet, I guess. It's the only thing I know of that's tracking scan dates vs. CC's.

  11. Hey guys I wanted to know if someone can shed some light on this issue I am having. I know friends who got their case complete after I did but they received an interview for our embassy already. Is there a reason its out of order I thought it was a queue?

Is your visa really an F-2A visa as it says in your profile? Were these other people also the same type of visa? If not, that may be why. If they are the same visa type and everything, I'd give them a call, but probably chalk it up to "The Great Mystery that is the US Immigration Process".

  12. I think you were one of the lucky few that got approved right in time before they sent the load of cases I've seen that happen to many. I was to late in the approvals lol I think, I THINK it seems like they wait every two weeks or so to send everything that way they're not just sending a few they send a whole bunch together makes life easier for them most likely. But I agree call as much as you wish. Also follow timelines with people who are currently starting the NVC part that really helped me. Actually gryphon was one of the people who REALLY helped me out when I first started. So thanks for that! Haha I really appreciate that :)

That makes a lot of sense that they would batch them up like they do for the interviews. That would be an interesting trend to try to map out. I checked fairly often myself, and war teacher and I are kind of tracking each other's progress since we're so close together in timelines :P Part of me wanted to stop thinking about it and just wait to hear from them, but the other part knew that this was the US government, not necessarily known for expeditious work haha. So the sooner YOU know, the sooner you can push on to the next step instead of waiting for them!

... and that's kind of you to say - I'm very happy to hear that I was able to help! I know personally I get pretty anxious myself about this whole deal so to know I'm able to possibly allay some of that means a lot :D And of course, there are plenty of people who've helped me so it only seems fair!

  13. It's not that easy. Nebraska is taking 2-3 weeks to send the cases to NVC. After it takes about a week or a bit less to reach NVC. It's been taking a week or 8-10 business days after they receive your case to get a case number. You have to wait until you get a notification email and text (if you have that) saying USCIS sent your case to the department of state . Then after a week of that you should start calling NVC to see if they received your case.

Mine (somehow) got sent the next day, so keep checking the USCIS status page, as it should update and say when it's sent over. I was fortunate to have it be sent out the next day, get to the NVC in 4 days and then get a case number in o ne calendar week. Then, of course, their website had a glitch and I couldn't DO anything with that case number for another week XD In any case, keep checking, calling, whatever, until you get what you need. It seems pretty random as to when stuff actually happens, though.

  14. Guys i have a question plz since most of u are sending thier documents now to nvc

My husband filed his taxes for 2013 an 2014 under the minimum income an the only good tax he has is the 2015 so do we need to get a joint sponsor now ???

    According to the instructions:

Item Number 3. - 17. Current Annual Household Income. This section is used to determine the sponsor’s household income. If your individual annual income listed in Item Number 2. is greater than 125 percent (or 100 percent if you are on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Coast Guard and sponsoring your spouse or child) of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size from Part 5., Item Number 8., you do not need to include any household member’s income. See Form I-864P for information on the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

So, if the income listed on Part 6 Item 2 (Current Individual Annual Income) is greater than 125% of the poverty level ($20,025) or 100% of the poverty level if he is active military ($16,020) then it appears it would not be necessary to have a joint sponsor. (Assuming a 2-person household)
