haha 'm fairly sure my fan and friends are aware! Calling HMRC tomorrow, hoping there is way to find out my income and taxes for 2015 as my employers won't get back to me on sending anotherp45, does anyone have any idea how else i can do my taxes here in the US without this info?
-
WAS I MEANT TO FILE TAX RETURNS IN THE UK? i worked part time for a few months and only just thought about this since i was always a student
-
Hello,
We are trying to do our taxes, i worked part time two different jobs in the UK until moving to the US, barely made over £2000 for the 2015 year, anyway i haven't got any information/p45s etc for this of course.. which is my problem. one employer emailed me back how much i earned and how much tax i paid, the other employer simply refuses to respond to me. what should i do?
we contacted a tax lawyer who said if i don't declare it correct i could get into serious immigration problems. I'm stressing out

Sorry i have one more question, i don't make enough to be paying it back this year so do i still need to write my bank information on the application or should i just leave it blank?
-
I just found this article after trying to figure out my US tax return; http://www.expatinfodesk.com/expat-guide/nationality-specific-information/british/tax-considerations/
I didn't inform HMRC that i am no longer living in the UK, i was only working part time and was a student for a couple of months this year, is this something that is necessary? surprised i didn't see it anywhere on here if it is!
-
Yes, because it seems as though they want to know if you are not employed, how are you supporting yourself. This is why they have a third-party listed.
If you have a job in the US, then you can just list that you're employed and skip the third-party section.
GREAT! Thanks so much

on the form it asks if i am supported by a third party, does this mean i HAVE to put my husbands income? i thought only I were responsible for my student loan, with his income it means we will be paying way more than if it was just myself paying it...!
-
Thanks!
So student loans is literally the only person i need to inform?
-
Hey guys!
So I got my green card in November, and i am just now writing to student loans that i live abroad (i only graduated in september so don't even start to pay it back until september this year).
I haven't been told by anyone that i need to tell anyone in the UK i have left, is this something you do only when you become a citizen?
What about the NHS? For example, we visited in december and i could have just went to the doctor for free even though id on't live there, it doesn't really add up to me! Obviously i didn't as we have good health insurance here, and the standard of care is way better!
Thanks!

Lol! What next, USCIS?

are you in the US now?

Well my husband said he had no clue what he earned in 2008, the year he came and I figured all this tax thing out. He worked from Jan to Sept 30 in the UK. He had nothing on paper. So I told him surely he knew approximately what his yearly salary was or could look online at bank deposits. So he came up with a good guess of nine months income. I converted to dollars and reported it. Was trying to be as honest as possible, even though likely inaccurate. I haven't heard from the IRS. I don't think they have to resources to go after small taxpayers just to check up on you for accuracy. Do the best you can and forget about it.
Try TurboTax. It asks you questions to guide you and fills out the 2555. If you don't know how to answer, ask me and I will try to help. I buy the Basic edition currently 29.99 and install it on my PC. I probably can't help with the online version as well because it is set up a little differently and we wouldn't be looking at the same thing. Places like H&R Block for tax prep often don't know the special circumstances of immigrants and reporting worldwide income.
Thanks so much! Yes it is difficult to know exactly, because on my p45 it says the income i made from both 2014-2015 so i don't know exactly how much of this is from 2015 so i will make a decent estimate thanks for your help, you have put me at ease about stressing so much about it!
-
Thanks for the reply! Wow this sounds complicated, i will perhaps need to hire someone to help me with this!
I have one of my p45 forms, but i also worked for my university and got paid monthly, so i assume i got a p45 for that job too and misplaced it. I emailed the University and asked for a summary of earnings which by law they need to send to me back. Will this be ok, if i add this amount to my other job earning in 2015? Since you said it is self-reported i assume they don't need to see additional documents?

Hey! I recently got my W2 from work so i am worrying about how to file my taxes with my husband here in the US.. I worked about 3 months part time in UK this year and apparently i have to show my hours in England when i file my taxes here in US.
I probably had whatever documents I need and left them in UK and lost them.. Does ANYONE know how i get this form, or if it is even necessarily needed to file my taxes? I would rather just not add it in there, i assume it helps me more but I was a student whilst working a few months in UK and it was only part time so it wasn't many hours at all...
SO CONFUSED!
Thank you

did you google the number he called from?

Yes. If the USC owns anything and dies, without a will everything goes into probate until it can be sorted out. It's just needless stress and heartache when you are already hurting. With a will you can avoid things like that. Also you don't know what will happen in life. What if you're walking down the road or putting groceries in your trunk and some moron slams into you? What if you have certain medical wishes but can't express those because suddenly you're in a coma? Yes, wills and medical powers of attorney are things that are important to have once you're married. They're important to update once you have children as well.
Most of the time you can do these forms on your own for free or cheap without the need to involve a lawyer. You just need to look up the laws in your state.
WOW - this is good to know, i will look into it right now - how do you provide proof you have a will though?
-
We don't have life insurance, and my husband has a 401k and i assume I'm beneficiary, how can i prove this?
Wills, medical powers of attorney are good to have. Is the credit card really a joint card or are you an authorized user?
We don't have wills or medical powers of attorney, we are only 25 is this necessary!? I am probably an authorised user but joint on the checking account

I have had a job for six months.. the reason i can't get put on the bills is because they only allow one name on them!
-
We got the green card over a month ago and this hadn't crossed my mind. Our electricity bills and utilities will only allow one name, i even went in person to try and work around it but they weren't helpful at all. These are the only bills we get as everything else is included.
We have;
Joint car insurance - but the only thing i can see is our plan which is one page? is there something which shows we will share this for a long time?
Joint health, dental and vision insurance - again i only have insurance cards for this
Joint lease
Joint mobile phone bill
Joint bank account and credit card but the cc doesn't show my name on statements for some reason
Obviously we will have photos and more flights to show
I am just worried about it not being enough and leaving it too late!

Immigrant Fees pay for processing costs, so fees would need to increase.
Political not Logical.
lol yeah, good point!
-
Am i missing something, i thought the K1 does the same checks as the CR1 and AOS from all other visas, why are they only looking into K1s and not other visa types?
-
Thanks everyone! I like the idea of calling it wedding ceremony and celebration - and hopefully all of the people understand our situation !
-
I guess.. i just thought people would be confused but whatever i guess it is our wedding!
-
We are making our save the invitations and not really sure how to word it - did you say 'renewing vows' or did you say 'second wedding' or did you just say wedding? I just know people will say 'you're all ready married?!?' if i just said 'wedding'!
UK student loan, applying for US mortgage as co-signer
in Tax & Finances During US Immigration
Posted
Hello!
My husband and I are about to close on our first home. They pulled our credits etc, all of our debts came up which was basically our credit cards and one car payment plan.
Anyone who is from the UK will know that student loans are a entirely different kind of loan, you don't need to pay it off until you reach a certain amount which I don't, so i don't even need to make any payments. Even in the UK it wouldn't affect a mortgage as they look at your payments n bank statements, so if you were paying it that is the only way it would affect it.
I never even got asked if i had amy other debts as they just assumed everything that showed up was the debts.
Is this something i need to inform them? My husband is the main signer and i am the co-signer.
Thanks!
