  1. My wife and I are going through the same thing. She was getting extremely bored at home. She was a teacher in her country. We went and got her a volunteer position at a school near this house. She starts today. This does not pay money of course. This does however provide her good local references and get her experience. When her green card arrives and she gets a SSN, then whe will be set now.

One idea for you. You can put in papers for a work permit. Not sure if the money vs time wait would equal out.

  2. I guess your area is doing it differently. The lady here also wanted the SSN and also mentioned the government grants. She then offered to just assign here a number and let her enroll in the classes. The only things she had to do from there was a placement test to determine her level of English skills.

For the person looking for the classes. You need to look at the community or technical colleges. Don't look at the universities.

    Good luck to all.

  3. It really depends on state to state. There is a good chance you will be classified as a 16 yr old. Allot of states are changing rules now for immigrants coming in. Here in NC they just changed the rules and even if you want a drivers license you must have insurance. (with or without a car) The problem has allot to do with those in the past that have moved here and been the cause of many accidents. I know this is not the case with all, but giving you the information I have read. I have a motorcycle and they are a seperate policy here in NC. You will normally get better rates if you keep all of your insurance with one company. (house, car, motorcycle)

Hope this helps. I am getting ready to have to pay for my wife an insurance policy. I will have to pay as if she is 16 also. I feel your pain.

  4. I have a packet 4 from last month at home, but do not have a scanner handy once I get home from work. If you would like to call me tonight and ask questions, you're welcome to. If I remember right you're in Bogota right now. My fiancee will be there also if yours fiancee has a question. You will need to call me around 7:30 at home tonight if interested. We will be going out tonight and will not be home after 8:30. Send me a personal message if you want to do this and I will give you my home number.

If you call me maybe this will answer all of your questions so you don't have so many post. Go to one of the internet cafe's and call if you're in Bogota still. The calls to the US are cheap.

  5. GO to DHL Worldwide Express website http://www.dhl.com

    Select USA

    A new page will open

At the top highlight tracking and click on TRACK BY REFERENCE

In the Reference field type CORRESPONDENCE

For the Shipment date you should select a day before and after the date NVC said they sent your file.

    Customer number leave blank

Origin Postal code should be 03801

    Then Click Track

Mine took about 4 days to reach the embassy. You can then follow the thread from Peter Miami to expedite the processing.

  6. Never see information on POE, so I thought I would write one.

We entered at Miami. At the passport station they just took her fingerprints and typed some information into the computer. We were then escorted to a side processing area. There were allot of people in this room. Some were being fully fingerprinted. We just waited for her to be called. She was finally called and they just told her about working and traveling. We were then told we were done and just left. It was easy. The people were not very friendly but it was a simple experience.

  7. A quick overview of our experience.

ARRIVE early. We did. Appointments are at 7. We got there at 6. There was already a line. They got long fast after we arrived. We got at just the right time. I think 5:45 would have been better.

You will see 3 poles with numbers on them. Go ahead and get behind pole 3. Pole 3 is for K1´s and some others. At 6:30 they come out and started asking questions about your appointments and reason for being at the embassy. Shortly after they start letting you in. You will then be given a packet to organize your papers requested in packet 3 and 4. Then a woman will call you and check off your name. She will then send you to a window with these papers and all of your original papers from the I129F will be put together. After that you will be ask to wait in chairs near another window. This is the long wait period. Then you will hear your fiancees name called and both of you will go to that window for your interview. They ask us all the normal questions.

    How did you meet?

    What does your family think?

    Does he have pets?

What kind of car does he drive?

What does your family think of you living in America?

Why do you want to marry him?

Does he have children, or want children and how many?

Then he talked with me. Ask me about past relationships and why am I wanting to marry her. He also ask me how many times I had visited Bogota.

Then he said you are granted a visa and to return at 4 tomorrow.

Good luck to all. Feel free to send me questions. I will write about our POE tomorrow. (Miami)

  8. CSC will assign an "A" number.

No matter what is written on the NOA2 it is sent to NVC.

NVC will assign it another number that is used by the embassy. This number will vary depending on the country and embassy. (example, mine went to Bogota and got BOGxxxxxxx)

In the past months for some reason CSC has been shipping the NOA2's in bulk. You could be waiting a month before it reaches NVC.

Once at NVC, they normally process in about a week.

Hope this helps. One last note. If you call the "no help" CSC help line. They have no clue about the writing on the NOA2. It will go to NVC.

  9. Rodney, Thanks for the reassurance..We've got everything ready for the moment our docs arrive in Bogota...we'll be faxing from Medellin and sending via Servientrega. Good luck with the interview and please let us know how it all goes. By the way, do you plan to go with your spouse?

    OskaryAndrea,

Yes, I will be there with her. I leave on the 17th. We should return to America on the 20th or 21st. I feel it is important to be in the interview and also to accompany her back here. The embassy will see the support and I can answer any questions first hand. The trip will be a difficult day for her, so it is only right I accompany her.

Like Peter Miami has posted many times in the past. The cutoff is around the 20th of a month. So you need to get the OF169 and DS230 part 1 in as soon as possible. This is especially important for the two of you being in Medellin. Your papers will take longer due to the distance and poor mail system.

Good luck to you guys and any others in process.

  10. Finally there. Well almost.

For all that read this. Taking the packet 3 papers in once you know they have left NVC will help in some cases. It made the difference of a month for us. (it would have been Jan.)

    Left NVC on 11-3

    Arrived at embassy 11-7

    Pkt 3 in hand 11-21

We hand carried the necessary papers to the embassy on 11-13. Doing this got us the Dec. appointment. Just passing the tip along again. Thanks again Peter Miami.

  11. Wait about 2 weeks from the NOA2 date.

Call NVC every 2 or 3 days from that 2 week mark.

You must talk with a live person. Automated does not work for K1.

Once you have a number, ask the person on the phone to please verify your information in the computer and also what date it left NVC.

Use that date and follow your package using DHL. The DHL instructions are on the VJ site.

With all this you will know the exact date your package is at the embassy.

Go ahead now and prepare your I-134 and also have your fiancee prepare their papers on the other end.

Hope this helps and answers your question.
