I tried to walk-in at the Alexandria office on July 23, but was turned away. The lady said they are not taking walk-ins! There was another family of 4 too, and they were turned away. I will just go as originally scheduled. How did yours go?

Ah bummer :( my original appt went fine. Status changed to Fingerprint review was completed the next day.

@cx711s I received my biometrics letter just now. USCIS Alexandria appointment for end of July. I was considering to do walk-in next week (July 22 or 23) until I read your post. My case is change of status though- I see yours is to remove condition. Do you think it makes a difference?

Hey! I doubt it. They only looked at my appt date and immediately turned me away. My coworker apparently had a similar experience where she arrived a couple hours earlier (on her appt date) and was told to wait until her exact appt time even when it wasn't busy at all. I wonder if their protocol has changed recently... but if this isn't taking much time and cost for you (like if you live close by and plan to drive) you can still try since you never know? :)

  3. Thanks for compiling this! My walk in at Alexandria VA was unsuccessful today although it was very empty + had 0 in line whatsoever :(

  4. Hi everyone, I'm currently working on my ROC.

While we now have a jointly signed lease that we can submit, we used to sublet from a friend of ours and the sublease agreement only included my spouse's name, not mine, because the master lease didn't allow more than 1 tenant.

We're planning to include a note explaining this. However in this case would it be better or worse to send a copy of that lease? - since it doesn't include both our names anyways. I was going to, but now having second thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your inputs!

  5. Hi everyone,

My filing is actually like a year away but I like planning ahead so.. :P

Below is the evidence I can think of so far.

    • Marriage Certificate
    • Driver’s license of both with old address
    • Driver’s license of both with new address
    • Jointly filed tax returns
    • 2 joint debit cards and 2 joint credit cards
    • 2-30 Photos with family and friends
    • Joint vision,dental,health insurance
    • Joint car insurance
    • Joint rental insruance
    • Life insurance/401K listing each other as beneficiary
    • Joint phone bills
    • Vacation receipts – inside and outside US
    • Copies of bill calendars with our paychecks and spendings combined (this is nothing official but what I personally note every month to manage our finance, and was thinking why not including this)
    • Greeting cards from friends and family addressed to both of us

The thing is our proof of living together - we don't have a lease / utility bills with both names on since we are on a sublease from our friend. Only my spouse is listed on the contract and utilities technically go through our friend's name.

However I was thinking of still including a contract, rent/utilities coming out from our joint account, a cover letter explaining this and all the important mails for both of us addressed to the same address.

We can also try to get an affidavit from that friend about the housing situation, and a Medical Power of Attorney if evidence above is not solid enough - what do you think? Will we need more than those?

Thank you soo much for your chiming in in advance :)

  6. Hi guys, I had an i-485 interview today and it was smooth and successful! everything was done in about 15 minutes.

So we were called about 30 minutes later than the appointment date, and the officer first wanted to see both our ids. He asked if he could get a copy of my husband's passport (USC). He then asked for proof of relationship documents (we brought about 20 pictures, joint bank accounts, joint health/car insurance, travel confirmations from recent vacations together, and joint phone bills.)

After that he asked basic questions to me, the applicant, about my name, BOD, address, where I was born, parents name, and my husband's name and BOD. Then he went through all the yes/no questions on if I have been a spy/prostitute/terrorist/former prisoner stuff.

I have entered the US with a J-1 visa in 2015, and was under a 2 year home residency rule, but I got a waiver on that. (This time I entered with a K-1.)

He pointed out that a 2-year-rule applied to my J-1 visa, so I told him that I got a waiver, showed him the original waiver approval letter and gave him a copy.

Then he said "Everything looks good" and that the case will be under review, and the letter will be coming within a month. But after like 10 minutes my case status updated to "New card is being produced" so yay on that!! :)

Like every other applicant I prepared so many extra things haha. an IRS report, recent paystubs, employment letter, even finally updated the address on my husband's drivers license, and a sealed I-693 after getting another MMR shot and a flu shot. (In the packet I only sent a ds-3025.)

Apparently it seems like 1 MMR shot is accepted from my experience, since I didn't get an RFE, and I wasn't asked for an I-693 with a second MMR even at the interview.

So anyways I'm glad that the interview went fine. I'm sure all the October filers will get a good news any minute, and I genuinely hope that!

  7. Hi everyone, my interview is up for tomorrow haha.

I've gathered most documents but was wondering if I would need to bring a copy of my EAD and AP approval letters as well.

The interview instruction sinply says "Any immigration-related document ever issued to you, including EAD and AP"

So I'm thinking it's not necessary..

Any advice will be much appreciated!

  8. 13 minutes ago, KristaW said:

Ah, yes, mine did that same thing. 1/11 I have New Card was produced or ordered, then it switched to Case was approved.

Does that mean they mailed it? I thought it had another status that I was waiting for that said 'Card was mailed to me'?

Hi, My Case status changed Case was approved on 1/12, and I got approval letters(NOA) for EAD and AP last night. No card in hand yet.

My status is not updated to 'Card was mailed to me' either. I'm guessing it might take some time due to MLK day/inauguration this week. Inauguration day is a federal holiday as well so.. :)

  9. Hi guys, my initial i-485 interview is on January 31st. :)

I was wondering if this will be enough evidence to prove that our marriage is bona fide.

    - Joint Bank Account Statement

    - Joint Car Insurance

    - Joint Health Insurance

    - Phone bill with both our phone numbers in it

    - Photos (wedding, travel pics with friends and family, date pictures;thinking of bringing 10-15 pics)

    - Airline/accommodation confirmation receipts for our 2 vacations, since I came to US

    What I can potentially prepare:

    - Affidavits from friends and family members stating that our relationship is bona fide

    - Birthday card from husband's grandma saying welcome to the family.

    - Christmas cards from husband's mother and sister.

    - Congratulations on your wedding card from a friend

I know birthday/Christmas/wedding cards will be a perfect addition, but it's just that they are all sent to my "English" name not my real name.

It's like, my legal name is Hyunkyoung, and I go by Hannah here.

and I didn't mention Hannah as my "other names used" in my i-485 application since I thought it was more like a nickname, rather than something like a maiden name. I did however mention that I go by Hannah in my i-765, because I go by an English name at workplaces.

If I'll need the cards as well, I can screenshot some work emails of people calling me Hannah/Office outlook calendar, or an affidavit from my supervisor that I go by Hannah at work.

However if the evidence I mentioned above would be enough, I'm just planning not to, so that I could only include documents with my real name.

So what do you think? Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you very much for your answer in advance, and hope you have a great weekend!

  10. Hi, you should try http://www.thehotline.org/.

I've once tried to help out a domestic violence victim (she was also an immigrant, didn't know her phone number, basically forced to live in a garage) through this national hotline and they were greatly helpful, providing lots of legal resources. I've talked to them via live chat but you could call them if you prefer.

  11. That's a great christmas gift! Our timelines are similar so hopefully I'll get a notice soon as well!

Haha right although what I was most hoping for was an EAD! I'm sure you'll receive good news very soon.

Congratulations!!! Did you receive an RFE or everything went smoothly?

Thank you! and no I have not yet, fortunately. but I'm planning to bring some additional documents that I haven't included in the original packet on the interview day, such as a sponsor's IRS transcript just in case. :)

  12. Oh my god my interview is now scheduled!

I wasn't even checking i-485 these days since I didn't expect anything to come up soon haha.

But still no news on EAD/AP since October 12.

I'm sure everyone will get a good news shortly!

On December 23, 2016, we scheduled you for your interview and mailed you an interview notice for Receipt Number ##. Your interview is on January 31, 2017. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your interview notice by January 22, 2017, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. 13. Hi guys, I got a biometrics letter today and actually got my biometrics done instantly!
