Does anyone have an idea of what to expect in an interview?

Our interview was a lot easier than I expected. We got called in together, and he asked for any new documents we had since we filed to fill in that 18+ month gap. Then we were asked a few basic questions - where does he work, how long has he worked there, do we have any pets, why did we move recently. After only about 5 questions he said he had asked enough and we’d hear from them soon if they needed any more information. When I got my card, it had the interview date listed as the approval day. We were surprised - I had read we would be separated and then each individually asked questions, like where in the bedroom is the first light switch, what type of flooring does our home have.... but no, nice and easy.

My interview will be in San Diego, CA on 9/23.

Here are documents that applied to me for my preparation:

    1. Green Card

    2. Appointment Letter

    3. Passport + another ID Card

    4. Marriage Certificate

    5. Spouse's birth certificate/citizenship certificate

6, All original documents that I sent my copies before for my I-751 and N-400, that includes:

    • All Pictures / Post on Social Media
    • Flight tickets / Hotels for all trips together
    • Calls / Texts reports
    • Car / Health / Life Insurance
    • Bank Statements
    • Station Orders (my husband in Navy and we not live together due to he moves a lot, so I always need to have his orders)
    • Power of Attorney (they asked me before for my 2 years Green Card)
    • Receipts of Gifts
    • Letters from 2-3 friends about our relationship

So far I can only think of those.

If you see anything else I need, please give me some advice.

    Thanks

And for anyone who knows about interviews - I got my interview date today for 10/29!

I have an overseas vacation booked for the following week - do they take my green card, passport or anything during the interview that would prevent me from travelling and reentering USA?

And do they look look at the documents I bring much, considering I submitted everything already in the application? I’m going to over-prepare regardless.

5/5/18 ... woah almost a year to the date they now want my fingers!

For anyone interested; I called and they said they have no record of sending me a biometrics waiver. Which is odd and a little worrying as I’m looking at it! She said to bring the notice with me to my appointment to show them, but at that point I’m already there, you know. Oh well!

  4. Thanks for the update, Natandjustin. I'm glad things are looking more hopeful for you. We are still waiting for my Green Card a month after approval with no news. We will try our congressman if we don't have any progress by next week, although when we tried using his services during the K1 process, he was as useful as tits on a nun! Keep us posted and let us know when you get your card.

Got my combo card in the mail yesterday! Seriously thanking the congressman for all his help as I think that's the only reason I have it!

  5. Anything yet? From anyone? I'm getting desperate here!!!

I've had some positive progress. I think I mentioned in a previous post that I was calling my congressman. Well, on Monday, his office got back in touch with me to tell me that they had managed to get production of my card pushed through again, and I should expect it in 14 days. I checked the online tracker and my case status updated to 'approved' that day too, and my service requests changed to 'completed' the following day.

Being the worrier that I am, I decided today to call USCIS and see if there was any more progress, and to confirm that they WERE re-producing my card. The tier 2 managed to give me a tracking number, saying that my EAD had been posted today!!.So really hoping that there are no more bumps in the road and it comes in the mail when its supposed to now!!

I think the ONLY reason this has happened is because I got my congressman involved. I said to his office that 'I know you can help expedite the 90-day wait, and you might not be able to help now its already approved, but I keep getting given random wait times from officers with no one being able to accurately tell me when my card will be re-produced, and I'm at risk now of losing a job offer so please help etc etc'.

Hopefully you guys can get a similar result if you try your congressman/woman. Plus everyone should be coming up to the 'It should arrive in 30 days from production' window end now, right? so I think we can start really causing chaos and complaining that they legally should be already reprinting them etc and hopefully they'll fix this batch that went wrong

  6. So I've had a strange day. I tried to do a walk in infopass, after talking to another tier 2 at the call center. Everyone I talked to today was super sympathetic..... But they all said the same thing: nothing we can do to help, you just have to wait for them to reprint the card. Infopass said they couldn't print anything at all to give me and all they could do was put in a service request for me- but I already have one pending so there's no point.

Apparently my 'biometrics have been reuploaded' though.... So I mean I guess they are READY to print a new card... They just aren't doing it yet!

  7. I didn't receive my combo card more than a month since EAD/AP approval, which was in the first week of April.

Called USCIS, they told me to wait 60 days.

Went to InfoPass, card was produced in 2 days and received it in mail in a week.

I think the OP can claim hardship because he/she is losing a job offer.

I suggest you look up VJ for expediting EAD (I know yours is already approved, but...) and seek congressman's help.

Thank you so much for this reply, it has given me some hope!! I have made an infopass appointment, but the first available slot was in two weeks time. I think the answer is no... But can I just walk up and be seen tomorrow for eg? And this morning I called my congressman and because of the job offer and start date they have said they will try to help even though you are right the expedite process is normally for approval. Haven't heard back yet but it's only been with him for like 6 hours so not going to worry about that for a week or so.

  8. I am in the exact same boat. Approved the 28th. Nobody knows anything. Nobody has any guidance other than well just wait until we are done making you wait. It is so frustrating. Especially as so many people approved after us have received there cards now.

That's what is really bugging me as well..... If it was a computer error as they keep telling me which printed a batch of cards wrong, why did they not just right away re-print that batch when the computer was fixed? Why skip us (or so it seems) and go right on to new approvals and just leave us with faulty cards and no proof we can actually start the jobs we have waited so long to be able to apply for. :clock:

  9. Hey guys, I'm not sure if there will be any advise anyone can give, but I'm kinda just needing to vent as well.

So I got my ead / ap approval on 27 April, and haven't seen anything of it since then.

After speaking to tier 2 officers, they have said the card was misprinted, so that's why it isn't with me yet. However no matter how many times i call or different officers I talk to, they can't tell me why it hasn't been re-printed yet, when it will be re-printed, or anything like that. And I'm at the stage now where I think I'm about to lose a job offer because I have to keep pushing back a start date as this silly card hasn't arrived and I can't tell them when it will arrive.

The most frustrating thing is the officers seems to just pull dates out of the air. One said a service request I put in will be dealt with on the 29th. Another said I'll get notification for the service request on the 17th. Wait two weeks and it'll come. Give it till Friday and it'll be printing. Etc etc. But still no one can confirm its been re-printed. They say it's out of their hands now it's at the printers, and they can't give me the printers number.

I looked into making an info pass appointment as well, but apparently there are no appointment available at my local office (Orlando fl).

So I'm almost at 30 days since I got approved, and still no card, and it seems no way to make anyone at uscis see the urgency of this, or the issue that it was misprinted and no one seems to be trying to fix this error of theirs. And now I can't see myself on the e-verify self check thing either so I'm worrying they aren't working on properly fixing my card. Who knows.

I'm just at a loss of what to do now and feel I've been banging my head against walls.

Sorry to be such a Debbie downer but just wanted to vent and see if anyone is in the same situation but got their card yesterday or any advice or anything.

  10. Attention for people who got ead approval 26-28ish April and still don't have their card!

I've been waiting on my card for two weeks so have been calling uscis impatiently. Today I got a really helpful teir 2 guy. He said the printing machine broke down around this time, and my card WAS printed, but WITHOUT my address on it... So of course it'll never make it to me.

He said he has put in a service request to reprint it and get it to me ASAP, but he can't guarantee how long it'll take. But he was so helpful, and now at least I know why it hasn't arrived. Just for those others waiting 2+ weeks who haven't seen sight of their combo card this may have happened to you too.

Fingers crossed I'll see signs of it now within a week, because hopefully everything will go smoothly again now and it'll be as though I got approved today. Stress stress stress.

  11. So online, on April 27th, my ead updated to 'new card in production', and my ap changed to 'approved'.

On the 2 May I got my notice of approval for my ap.

However, I haven't received a notice of approval for the ead, and haven't seen anything of my actual combo card. My problem is though, I have a job offer and am not sure when I can tell them I can start!!!

I rang the service center and they said it can take 30 days for both ead combo card, and the approval notices, to show.... But is there anyway to speed up the process at all or anything I can do, as I don't want this job to slip by because I can't start yet!

Also worryingly they said the card printer had issues about a month back so they are currently facing a delay and cards could take 60 days -_-

  12. As the deadline for taxes are rapidly approaching, OP, you should send in the 2015 complete return + all schedules + W2. You DO NOT HAVE TO turn in a tax transcript. That is just an easier way to turn in the information, since it is a comprehensive document that has the complete return and the W-2 information included.

I'd recommend sending in the tax information for 2015. My husband applied for AOS in December, 2015. We got a letter at the beginning of March informing us that our case had been transferred to California for processing, and in the letter it specifically requested a copy of my 2015 tax return (or the request for an extension). Given that it is so close to the filing deadline, why risk further delays by sending his return for 2014 only to receive another RFE asking for 2015?

Thank you again everyone for your help!! I've quoted the two above replies just for anyone else in the same situation, as these seem to be the right information.

I contacted USCIS this morning and spoke to a Tier 2 officer, who said that because the deadline for my RFE is 87 days away (from 3/29), and the 2015 tax window would be shut by then, that they will want to see tax information for 2015 rather than 2014!

So going to post off today and hopefully thats the last I'll hear about tax returns till 2016 :P

  13. Hi guys,

I received my RFE in the post today - who knew it came on scary red paper - and I just wanted to clarify I will be sending the right thing back to them with you guys! (I have also asked my husband and his father but they are both at work so haven't replied to my text yet, so I'm basically being impatient) .

My RFE states I need to send: 'a complete Federal income tax return submitted to the IRS for the most recent tax year'.

Am I right that I need to send the 'form 1040EZ income tax return for single and joint filers with no dependents', for 2015 that he sends off to the IRS through like Turbotax and people?

I goofed first time round and sent my husbands w2, thinking it was the same thing, as he hadn't filed for his tax yet. Clearly I was wrong.... so i just dont want to go wrong again!

    Thanks in advance,

    Natalie :)

  14. Hi everyone,

So I filed for AOS at the end of January, and yesterday my status changed to say I've been sent an RFE. I know there's no way to know what it'll want until it's here - which may lead me to asking a second question later on but anyway -- but I have never really investigated the RFE process!

I was wondering, will I have one chance to reply with my additional evidence? Like if they STILL found my evidence insufficient when I send it back to them, does my case get denied and closed? (I know this seems a silly question but it's just a 'worst case scenario' kind of thing that I wondered if they replied like 'oh hey sorry that's still not what we meant!')

    Thank you :)
