  1. Sounds exactly like my wife. Ya'll need to sit down and talk, and soon. You'll have to be firm and she may get angry. But it is your money. You work to earn it, so you better protect it. You need to get her to be on the same page financially with you so that you don't end up in financial ruins. What should you do? Take away all the credit cards. Have 2 bank accounts - 1 with bill paying & need to survive money. The 2nd account has a little money where she can spend, but she cannot do much damage. Keep her on a tight "financial leash" with a Debit card to the smaller account. Don't wait until it's too late. Speaking from experience!

  2. My husband and I are planning on moving back to Brazil next year (yeaaaa) and although we don't have much stuff that we plan to take, there are some things that we won't leave behind.

Soooo, we're pretty sure we won't need a 20' container or anything. I was wondering if anyone has experience, or knows of, a company that will ship boxes to Brazil. Let's say the destination was Rio.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Meredith

    Hi Meredith,

Good luck on the move to Brazil. We will be there also, but in 5-6 years. Check with the Brazilian Consulate on this question. When I was at the Brazilian Consulate here in Houston last, there was a couple asking just this type of question and the Consulate gave them a list of companies to contact. Again, best wishes to both of you.

    Boa viagem!

  3. I' m curious. While checking out the plane tickets I realized the return / roundtrip ones are way cheaper than the one - way ones. As I wanna save money on it ( and on some one can save up to 500 euros  ) I was wondering if this can cause any problems at POE. People entering USA on a K1 visa shouldn' t have a roundtrip ticket anyway so do the officers there even ask or are we all supposed to say something ? Or it doesn' t really matter what kind of a plane ticket one has ?

    Thanks !

It does not matter to Immigration. Buy whatever ticket is most cost beneficial to you. It is not an issue with Immigration as long as the Beneficiary has the correct documents when they return to the US.

  4. Does anybody know a good way how to track your case from National Visa Center to Embassy?    :help:

    Try following these steps.

Go to DHL Worldwide Express website http://www.dhl.com

Select "USA" - A new page will open

At the top highlight tracking and click on "TRACK BY REFERENCE"

In the Reference field type "CORRESPONDENCE"

For the Shipment date you should select a day before and after the date NVC said they sent your file.

    Leave the "Customer number" blank

Origin Postal code should be "03801"

    Then Click "Track"

"YuAndDan" gave me this info in 2006 after I asked the same question. You will have to call NVC first and speak to a human. The automated menu cannot give you any info about whether your pkg has been sent or not.

  5. Hi Guys :-)

I have a question. Me and my husband are planing to go on a cruise vacation. I already have my green card. what papers do i need to travel out of the US? will this affect my application for citizenship in the future?

    Thanks all.

Your Passport is all you'll need, unless the country you are visiting requires you to have a VISA. Then you'd need that as well. You need the Green card for re-entry to the US, not to leave the US. Your travels have nothing to do with Citizenship in the future and will not affect the process.

  6. Hi Nothel,

We took our Marriage Certificate (and passports) to the Brazilian Consulate here in Houston. They don't give you a Brazilian license! They translated it to Portuguese. On our next trip to Brazil, we went to a Cartorio in her home town. Yes, you need to take the documents with you. I would not send them for fear they'd get lost. The Cartorio "recorded" the document in a huge book and kept the originals. Told us to come back in "a few weeks". After about 3 months, we called and it was ready. We authorized my mother-in-law and she went to pick it up and used SEDEX to send it to us. Our marriage was officially registered in Brazil. We received a Brazilian Marriage Certificate. The price was very little, the process very simple. Hope I answered your question!

  7. Hello everyone I posted some weeks ago and asked a question if it would be possible for my fiance to get a visitors visa to come see our new baby. I had a girl. He wanted a boy so he can have a name sake, but I tried as much as possible to still give her his name. His name is Velroy James(we call him Velly), so i named her Vellyisha Jamese.I hope he is satisfied with that. However I do have another question what is the appropriate age that a newborn can fly. If he is not able I want her to see her daddy soon. Thanx

Most airlines accept them as soon as they are 1 month. You'll need to get a Passport for her as well so she can travel to Jamaica. I would not want to fly an infant at 1 month, just seems too soon! My son made his first flight to Brazil when he was 5 months. No problems with ears or sleeping!

  8. Yes. You can translate your own documents. Certify them with the statement...

I, _______________________________ certify I am competent in the English and ___________ languages and that this is a true and accurate translation of the _____________ document. Translated from the original on __________________(date)

    _________________________ (signature)

    Printed name

    Printed address

    Printed telephone number

This is exactly what I did. I translated Fernanda's birth certificate. Then I added this document with the above statement to my packet.
