    1. When was the I-130 filed?

    2. Was it filed when she was in or outside US?

It was filed April 2020 and she was not present, since then the 130 has been accepted and she has been in the US since November, so 8 months now.  Two months past recommended vida stay.  The 139 was granted last week and I am gonna send in adjustment of status but not sure if I need to send regular 485

  2. my stepsons recently came to live with us here in New Jersey after nearly two years of waiting.  Their mom passed away after a tragic car accident.  my husband is a naturalized citizen and I am US born.  now that they are here I am curious to know the next steps in them obtaining citizenship.  I believe I only need to get their social security numbers and then later apply for a us passport is this correct?  I am also curious to know if there is an easy way to change their name legally without paying ridiculous fees.  We wish to drop the second last name for simplicity sake, things get so mixed up and complicated with two last names here in the states.  my husband did this with his n400 but the boys are taking different route to citizenship.  any recommendations appreciated!

  3. good morning all, thank you for this thread I am also in same boat with my mother in law.  my husband who is now also a usc filed for her April 2020, she is currently here on her visitor visa and we will be submitting the 485 within the next couple of weeks.  after speaking with a lawyer he advised me that if the current 130 is still pending you can send in the 485 and no payment is necessary, however if the 130 is approved in the upcoming weeks then the application can get sent in still but would need the payment attached.  anyone also hear of this or have experience?

I have an appointment scheduled on nov 30 for the medical exams etc.  This will be a large delay in getting the 485 out, I may just complete it without it so that I can be put into the system and then send the medical exam information when an RFE is requested.

I don't often say this but this is a case worth asking to expedite.

Not sure what stage you are actually at since

isn't possible.   Contact (by email) who has the case and request an expedite to get the family back together.

Thank you! I am actually currently trying to figure out the best way to word and prove the urgency of our case based on the grounds of humanitarian crisis. I have the mothers death certificate that was submitted with their original application.  I don't know what else to use to prove the urgency.. any thought or ideas would be much appreciated!

The case is at the NVC in Santo Domingo DR, all documents approved, awaiting interview date so we can get medical exams done and proceed from there 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Unfortunately the NVC is not sending petitions to embassies at this time. It is unknown when the embassy in DR will open up. What is the visa category he filed?

It was an I-130 period for alien relative.  I petitioned for then last year since I was the citizen in order for it to move along faster.  Well here we are a year and so later and still in limbo, corona is holding things back by a few months now

  7. I petitioned for my stepchildren (2boys) last may 2019 after they lost their mother.  My husband has become a citizen since then 1/2020 and their case is currently at the NVC in Santo Domingo DR.  Everything is approved but we are awaiting our interview.  Does anyone know if they are scheduling appointments soon considering changes during COVID? Or are things gonna be on hold the rest of the year?? TIA

  8. Hello all! Our case is currently in transit to the Embassy in Santo Domingo. I was able to track our package and saw that it had arrived there but our case is still "In transit" on the CEAC website.

As my question above states, do we need the appointment letter to attend the medical or vac appointments or could my fiancé be proactive and get this done on his next days off?

I will visit him this weekend and we will complete the DS160 together, pay the fee and hopefully schedule our interview, as well as plan for the medical and vac appointment.

We have our case number and I have all the necessary supporting documents from my end, hoping to plan the rest of the process very soon but want to do it correctly.

Thank you for your help, this website is Godsend! (F)

  9. 19 days after NVC assigned my case number (11/5) FINALLY IN TRANSIT TODAY!!!!!! I am so overjoyed and excited to report this thanks to all for your support and wisdom!

I'm not quite sure if this had anything to do with it, but I visited the website of the US Embassy in DR http://santodomingo....-contact-e.html

and emailed support@ustraveldocs.com inquiring about the status of my case and tell me anything further (more than the CEAC website or NVC has been telling me). A few emails and a few hours later, checking CEAC for probably the fourth time today it is IN TRANSIT!!!!

  11. Hello posters! September 2015 filer here.. my case is currently sitting at NVC now for 17 days. I received a case number on Nov 5th and apparently its still there undergoing "Administrative Processing" (whatever the heck this means). I know its a random selection for multiple reasons not in my control, so I'm not quite freaking out yet but am getting super impatient.

I hope that I will be able to fill out my DS-160 when I visit my fiancé the first week of December, regardless of if my case is in transit to the Embassy in DR or not. I know that the police report needs to be within 30 days of interview, and the Medical 14-21 days before. We will gather birth certificates, documents, passport photos etc that can be obtained now regardless of interview date.

Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this finds you all well and moving along in your process.. God speed to us all xoxoxo

  12. The other poster is doing a spousal visa, and not a K-1. Their process is not the same, so that is probably why it is confusing you. K-1 applicants send nothing to the NVC. Follow your consulate's instructions and take what they ask of you to your K-1 interview.

DR site listing what is needed > http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/iv-required_documents.html

DR site telling you what needs to be done to schedule your interview > http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/iv-new_process-k1_steps.html

Thank you for this clarification!! I feel relieved =]

  13. They asked basically for the same things they asked when you first file the petition

    Birth certificate extensive

A report called Acta de Buena conducta

Taxes from the past 2 years

    Passport number

    Parents name and dob etc

    Passport pictures

We are married so we had to send the marriage certificate, besides everything else is the same.

They ask for the same things over and over

Our case is still at the NVC we haven't received an interview date yet.Its been there for a month and 3 days waiting for an interview.... Yes im counting the days the hours and the minutes this process is so slow its hard.

The NVC asked for these things ? Thats confusing to me I thought that was part of the next step to the process. I am doing a K1 i wonder if its different for me. My understanding was that the NVC repackaged, rechecked and sent to the DR embassy and then from there was an accumulation of those documents- ds160, fingerprints, medical, police report etc. I'm so confused

  14. Well how it worked for me was a case number was assigned

    * received a letter in the mail stating to wait for further instructions.

    * recived an email with all the things they were requiring. submitted those things

    * oct 13 they approved everything, and we are now just waiting for an interview.

    * I have been told once it says ready you can schedule your own interview typically they schedule it for you. keep calling that's what I do, keep calling and check your case status online

    ceac.state.gov

thank you for this info! :joy:

what kind of information did they request from you if I may ask?

Also what was the total amount of time before they sent out to the embassy in your fiance country?

  15. Hi guys, newbie here! So as of 11/5 NVC has assigned our case number but still waiting on hard copy of NOA2 in the mail. I called Friday and it was still not sent out to the Consulate in DR. I am confused about the next steps of the process. I have seen posts stating that we can proceed with filling out DS-160 with the case number, but I am a bit apprehensive since I am unsure how long the NVC will take to send out our application. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

How long did it take for your case to be sent out after case number assigned?

Did you fill out DS160 and schedule medical before your case was received by Embassy?

Did you schedule your own interview or was a date assigned by NVC?
