mine is more than a year so I think its slower nowadays.. they even sent me another letter saying my conditional green card was extended for 18 months from the expiration date of my GC. so basically another 6 months. It's so useless I am rather annoyed because I have to renew my driver license for only 6 months
-
I am going to do the same. I got a letter last week from USCIS that my green card was extended for 18 months from the expiration date on my green card. I can apply for citizenship at the end of the month. Good luck to you!

I have a friend who recently PCS to Spain with her husband and baby. She told me that even though her case (removal of conditions on Green Card) is still pending, she was able to go Spain without any problem. She has a Filipino passport and they didn't ask her anything. You just need to be on his military order (accompanied PCS).

did you get approved? I filed mine late August 2017... We have military orders overseas to Japan and mine is still not approved.

i agree it sucked I had to wait a couple of months for I got my EAD when I AOS... but we are a military family so it didn't matter for us.. we were going to move out of state within a couple of months and when we finally settled I found a job. A few months isn't that bad.. I made friends and went out and enjoyed life

What is your case for expedite?
Deployment won't be good enough in this case because it's set in 2019. You'll get ROC approved by then.
I figured I might as well try and let them know we're being stationed overseas. We only found out a few weeks ago. I just want all the papers need to be sorted out before we move, my green card is expired and all I have is a letter from USCIS saying its extended for 1 year but that letter expires in September so hopefully it gets approved before that or ill need another letter. At this point I might as well apply for naturalization since I am eligible in August...

I sent my ROC in August 2017 as well and of course after 10 months, no status on it either! and of course, we got overseas orders in February 2019 for Okinawa, Japan. I sent an email to the military USCIS area, hoping to hear from them if they could expedite my case.

Put your APO address. They will send mail with that address because its like a US address, but for military people.

I am on the same boat as you! We recently got orders overseas but we're going to Okinawa, Japan! I sent my i-751 (removal of conditions) and I only have my foreign passport. I think it says in our welcome aboard pamphlet that I need a Japanese visa, but it says nothing about the legal services on base helping in any way. I just want this PCs to go smooth.

i'm sorry, this is not exactly related to this thread but i'm a permanent resident in the US. i'm planning to move to germany soon because my husband is stationed there. i thought that i could not work for the army if i was not a US citizen? can i work for the army being a non-US citizen?
You can enlist even without being a US citizen. Many people are permanent residents and then apply for citizenship after a year of being in the military. I know this for a fact because my husband was not a citizen when he joined 13 years ago. One of our friends is also a Navy recruiter.

Hi,
we're you able to find out? I sent my i-751 but then 8 months later found out that my husband got orders to Japan and I will be leaving with him. My application still hasn't been processed and it looks like its going to take awhile.
I was thinking of instead of waiting to have that approved, perhaps I could get the expedited Naturalization so when we move in February (in 7 months), I will be already a citizen and won't have to go through all the trouble.

I am a military wife (Im filipino/Canadian) and my husband is in the US Navy. I suggest you get your paperwork done for you to move there instead. I really don't think they will issue you a visa to visit him because of the risk that you might not go back. Especially in the Trump immigration era, its becoming difficult to get visas... I've been waiting for my permanent residency (lifting green card conditions) for 10 months already and im already married to my husband and have been living here since May 2015.
I know about military husbands being busy, but if he really wants you here, he needs to start the immigration process, its very long trust me.

don't worry I travelled abroad with the letter stating I had an extension for a year (I went to the middle east to see my military husband stationed there), and I had no problem whatsoever.
The airline didn't ask me anything. I just went to the counter that is for non-US citizens.

I sent mine end of august 2017 and they still haven't processed it... so you have a long way to go. I filed at the California Service Center.

Hi. I-751 instructions does not require that the sworn affidavit should come from a US Citizen, so your sister can write the affidavit. It has to be notarized for it to be considered a "sworn affidavit". Your sister can get the affidavit notarized at her bank, and it should be free.
Thanks!! I'll do that

So you guys have separate checking accounts? Why? Are you an authorized user on his accounts? They might question that if you have an interview. It could be viewed that you don't trust each other enough to "co-mingle" your finances. No judgments here, for the first couple of months, we both had our separate accounts + a joint savings account, but later found it much more convenient to just give each other access to our accounts. My pay check goes into my checking (that he has access) and his goes into his checking account (that I have access). So if I ever need funds I just move it between accounts. It's not that we didn't trust each other, we just never got around to adding each other to our accounts.

Hi everyone,
I am almost done with all the evidence and form for my ROC. The only question I have is about the Affidavits. I know they can be from friends or family... but do these people have to be US Citizens? My sister is a permanent resident living in a different state (she married a US citizen!) and she knows our relationship very well and so does her husband. They attended our wedding and spent many holidays with us (prior and after we got married). We are a military family and we move a lot. We do not have a lot of friends/family that we could ask to do this affidavit (Many are deployed or live out of the country due to orders).
Also - I have read a few posts here and many have given samples of their Affidavit, which included a notary portion. Is this necessary? It doesn't say anything on the form instructions that we need to have that notarized.
We have a lot of evidence that our relationship is true and not fraud. We have registration of our car under both of our names, life insurance where I am the beneficiary, joint tax, leases, Power of Attorney signed in front of a notary, joint savings and checking account, many pictures of us going on vacation. There is no way this could be fraud LOL.

Really? I received mine December 5th. I already got my driver's license too

We are sending our package in within the next 2 weeks. We already put off our application with 4 months because we were waiting for the sale of my fiance's new house to go through so we have a definite address. (He was at a temporary base for only 3 months, so we didn't want to use a temporary address and risk mail getting sent there and get lost)
However, my fiance (stateside) is an officer in the military and might get deployed in June and go for predeployment training away from home in February.
What happens if our application is not approved by then (June)? Can we get a lawyer with power of attorney to sign things and handle the process on behalf of my Fiance in the time he is away?
How about adjusting my status? Since we will only have 90 days to get married. So if I get approved while he is away it will be a bit impossible to marry and change status.
I heard that the Texas lockbox is slow and the other one is fast. Would it help to get sent to the faster lockbox if my Fiance wrote in his cover letter that we are hoping to do get married before his deployment in June?
This news was sudden and unexpected and completely throws off our plans. Any advice will be so much appreciated.
I had a similar circumstance happen to me last year.
My husband is also in the military and was deployed in 2014 for 9 months. My then-fiance filed for K1 petition in February 2014 and he deployed two weeks later. We made sure everything was 100% accurate so we didn't get an RFE. Our petition was approved only in August 2014 - 6 months later. After that, it took a good 2 weeks to get packet 3. I then purposely delayed sending out response for packet 3 (It did take time for me to get all my paperwork together and background checks) because I knew my then fiance would not be back from deployment until november to late december. I only sent the package in December when I was ready and sure he would be back. So basically I made sure it was within the 4 months time frame (It was a week before petition expired). I made sure to send out an email to embassy to explain them my situation, and they understood completely. I had no problem whatsoever. I have heard that you could even request an extension.
Depending on where you are located and how busy your embassy is, scheduling an interview is sometimes 1 to 2 month wait. Then once you are approved at the interview, it takes 1-2 weeks before you get back your passport with the visa in it. The visa itself is valid for 6 months, and you must enter the U.S. before the expiration date.
Just so you know - I only entered the U.S. in May - 3 months after I was approved, because I had job responsibilities and wanted to save extra money before the move (I also had to pack!).
If he is deploying in June, then he should be back around March, at latest April. However, expect that your fiance's orders are going to change! Nothing is permanent and often times they change dates.
In my opinion, you won't be able to get married until 2017 because of his training and 9 month deployment. K-1 petitions can be approved fast but more often it takes at least 4-6 months, some even more 9-12 months! Then after that expect an extra 2 months (packet 3-4, background check, medical exam, interview, sending back passport).

Reply to the RFE asap.
I've seen people get a RFE and it hasn't delayed the process that much, while others it has.

Trade school would be awesome! But right now money is tight for us and I really need help from him in order to keep us afloat. It's a hard decision to make, because once he starts working it will be very hard to stop for the sake of school. And doing both would be overwhelming at this stage.
No I definitely agree he should get any type of job right now so he can help out. That's what I plan to do too, but eventually down the road he should plan to have a career. Not sure if you are planning to have kids in the future, but having a stable, career focused job that he loves is important.

I would put your new address in the DS-160. Otherwise, there is a place online on the USCIS website where you can change your address for your current petition.
When I went through K1 petition, I simply put the right address in the DS-160... I had no problem. I even had to change my telephone number and my then-fiance number,

He should definitely network, ask for help from his community and if I was him, I would go to trade school. He will become good in English over time.
I'm also new here (although I am fluent in English), but I still plan to get some degree to have a better chance to get a job. I have only a few years of employment.

I received my driver's license 5 days after I transferred from a Canadian to American. I applied on Monday and received it on Saturday. Of course, I have such great luck... When I looked at my license, my married last name was misspelled :/ It isn't a common last name, I can understand but I did give my green card + social security, so she should have copied it properly. URGH so annoyed because we will have to go back again and have it corrected. I REALLY HOPE they I am not going to have to pay another fee because I am going to loose it fast.
