I'm not 100% certain, but I believe AP is only needed when trying to return to the US, so if you have the papers before you return, I presume you would be ok.

My wife's I-94 will be expiring in the next week. We have not filed for the AOS yet since I did not have a job for the past couple of months and don't have the proof of income needed for the affidavit of support. However, in June, I will be starting a job with great pay and benefits.
We were not able to get my wife a state ID (Illinois), but we did get her a social security card. We went to the DMV a couple weeks ago and they told us since her visa was expiring in 3 weeks, she was not eligible to receive an ID. They even told us that she had to leave the country when her visa expired, which I do not believe is the case.
My first question is about the ID. Should she actually be eligible for one? If so, is there any documents I can show to the DMV to prove this?
My second question is about health benefits once I start my new job. Since her visa will be expired and we haven't completed the AOS, will she be eligible to be on my healthcare benefits at my new job?
Since your wife doesn't have her EAD/AP, the state can only issue a temporary ID that is valid until her I-94 expires, so they may think 3 weeks isn't long enough. She should be fine to go in and get one once those docs come in.
I believe she will still be able to be put on your health insurance. It will likely vary by company, but all my husbands work needed was our marriage certificate and proof that we live at the same address.

Hi All,
My wife entered the US on a K-1 visa this past December. We got married at the end of January and filed AOS in February. Searched the forums for advice/tips and followed the guides on VJ to prepare the paperwork. We found out today that her AOS was approved without an interview and should have her Green Card soon.
We were expecting EAD and AP to take 3 months and AOS approved in 6-12 months. What a pleasant surprise to have AOS approved in a month and a half
This is a great site! So much information and everything you need to know about the visa process regardless of the type of visa you are applying for.
Thanks again VJ!!!
Wow, congrats!! Do you mind sharing what you included in your AOS paperwork (other than the standard forms)? We'll be filing soon and would like to try and avoid an interview if we can.

Applied for my SSN on February 16, the Lady gave me a paper with my info and reference number telling me it could take 12 weeks. She said they will need to verify with DHS before a number can be issued. Last week, I called and requested for a follow up. The lady told me there seems to be a problem, my middle name was added as part of my first name by DHS . I decided to call again today, behold good news. The number was issued on Friday. Going to my local office tomorrow to get my ssn while I wait for the card to arrive in mail
Yeah I had the same problem! I submitted my application about a week and a half after yours, so hopefully I'll hear something soon. How exactly did you ask about your case? Did you give them your reference number? I called my local office before and the guy just gave me a generic answer to wait longer without giving me a chance to give my reference number.

I went in to apply for my SSN on Feb 27th, and it turns out DHS had my middle name as part of my first name, so the lady we were dealing with sent a request to change the name. Said it should take 2 weeks to get a final receipt of application then a week or so after that to receive my card, but the paper she gave me said it can take up to 4 weeks. Called into the local office and guy said it'd take up to 6-8 weeks!!! This is so frustrating!
Anyone have any updates for their cards?

My Fiance and I started dating in September of 2014, first visit in December. His divorce wasn't finalized until January 2015, and we had no problems getting my visa
-
You shouldn't have a problem, as that case was one in which the officers had no idea what they were talking about, which is likely very rare. However, if you're still worried, you can check on your visa page in your passport to see if the NOA2 was extended. Under the petition receipt number, it says "PET FILED:/REVALID TO"

My status changed to Nonimmigrant AP this morning. Judging from what I've read on this thread this is usually a good sign? Trying not to get my hopes up...
I had my interview on the 15th..in and out within 30 minutes, nothing out of the ordinary. Hope mine changes soon..it's been updated every weekday since, but still immigrant ready
I want to book my plane ticket, but also don't want to be screwed out of all my money if it doesn't arrive in time.

The affidavit is not part of the original I-129f you send in. The affidavit of support should be getting prepared after you get your NOA-2, and when you get to that part in the process, there is no reason to have a cosponsor if your fiance makes enough money. I doubt they'd even look at her sister's forms. Your fiance wouldn't need to put anything down for savings if she makes enough per year, and she also wouldn't put any info about the house, as it is her sister who owns it.

U check intend , cause he will be supporting you and on the bottom the American fiance will write out how he will be doing that
Here is a video that honestly helped my American fiance fill it out , this vid was a life saver
Thanks! I am on the train right now, and wifi blocks youtube. He left it blank and wrote similar to what guide says, so I will just check off the "intend" box.

Hello everyone,
I have my K1 visa interview tomorrow in Montreal, and I was looking over my paperwork, and was just wondering if I should check "intend" or just not check anything on the I-134. I'm scared that if I dont that they might deny me, but I saw on the sample forms that it didnt have to be checked if you're doing a K1 visa.
What did you guys do? And was your interview successful?
Thanks!

I wonder if anyone who is using the new Canada Post delivery setup can comment on whether you're able to change the delivery address once the passport is en route...depending on when they send mine (supposing I don't go into AP limbo, of course), I might want it delivered at work, or I might want it delivered at home. It was one thing I actually liked about the Loomis setup, being able to judge the best address according to when it was coming. Everything is going to be so changeable in the next while!
Bleah.
Please let us know, anyone.
(Countdown to medical on Monday)
This might be different for Vancouver, but for Montreal, you can't change the courier details after your interview. In the confirmation page with your applicant/courier details it should say something like "You only have until 15 December, 2015, 06:00 EST to change the location where your visa documents will be delivered. After the time indicated above, the option to change the courier location will be deactivated from your account and at this point no courier changes will be allowed.", and the date they reference is my interview date.
Hope that helps!

I already had my interview last Friday. Can I still change the delivery address to my home address?
I was just printing out my interview/courier confirmation details, and it says there that you can only change courier address until 6am the day of your interview, so it's too late to change now, unfortunately.

Thanks! I will give it a try
No problem! You'll get an email back right away saying they've received your inquiry, but it usually takes a couple of days for someone to actually respond.
-
Geeze..I've been having trouble with Canada Post for non-visa related reasons, and this really doesn't surprise me. I'm thinking it's worth the extra $20 to just have them ship it to my house. Hope you get some news soon!

The email address is MONTREAL-IV-DV@state.gov

I'm nearing the end of the K-1 process and it really hasn't been too long. We submitted our petition Late August and my interview is Dec 15. I'm not sure about K-3 visas, I dont think they're given out that often anymore. It's more likely you'd have to do IR-1/CR-1 (I forget which) if you chose to get married first, and that can take up to a year I think, and I believe he will have to stay in Canada though I'm not exactly sure

She should be able to get her vaccinations from any doctor in her home country. She just has to bring proof to her medical.
-
Why did you send in both an I129F and I130? I129F is for fiancee visa to get to the US, and I130 is for when you're married to get to the US

How can you check with the Montreal consulate to see if they have 'logged' your case from NVC? I have my packet 3 ready but I dont know how to check to see if it's been processed.
You can email them and ask if they have received and logged your case, and ask if your packet 3 is ready to send. Their email is MONTREAL-IV-DV@STATE.GOV. You'll get an automated response saying it takes 3 business days to get a response, but it's usually faster.

Thank you so much everyone, I really appreciate it! I will be sure to show up really early. I think I will book the 1:30 pm bus, but if worse comes to worst, there is a 3:30 bus as well I might be able to hop on if need be.
Thanks again!

Hello everyone,
I do not have a car, so am travelling from Montreal to Toronto by bus. My appointment is at 7:40am and was just wondering how long it took you guys to get in and out so I know for what time to book my return ticket. There are return times for 11:30 and 1:30. Would I be safe to choose one of those? I'd rather not spend a long time waiting for the bus.
Thanks!

So far I've only seen one case of someone scheduling before they got packet 4. They did it without intent though and it was an accident, they never recieved packet 4 email, and where just going off the packet 4 pdf. Once they found out that there was an email involved (because some medicals ask for the packet 4 email at the appointment) they got in contact with the consulate and it was alright.
Again though, they did it innocently.
General warning though, is that if they see that you scheduled an appointment before they even logged their case, they could cancel your appointment.
Our case was received by Montreal on July 7th, but it wasn't LOGGED into their system until July 16th. If you're going to try to schedule an appointment, you may want to confirm that they have logged your case into the system first.
Mind you, I'm not entirely sure if you can even schedule the appointment without it being logged, but it wouldn't surprise me if you could.
Thanks Ash! I got the Packet 3 email from Montreal today, so I know my case is at least logged in their system. I will email them back once I get my Packet 4 and ask if my appointment is still valid. If not, oh well, I will book again. Worst thing that can happen is they cancel it (I hope!).

Hello everyone,
I have my interview set for Dec 15, 2015. I won't be heading to the US until March 2016. My passport expires November 2016. The site I went on to schedule my interview says "The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the period of stay in the United States". Now I thought that your passport just had to be valid 6 months past interview date, or 6 months past your entry into the US (forget which one). I will renew my passport before I leave in March, but I just wanted to know if I should have it done before the interview or what?
If I want to renew my passport over a year early, I have to provide an explanation, and I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, as I dont know the details of what the point of reference is for validity.
I appreciate any help!
K1 Visa holder. EAD in process. How can I apply for bank account and driver's license?
in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America

It depends on your state, but I believe you should be able to get a drivers license and open a bank account with your EAD. If you have trouble, I would recommend getting a state ID and using that to get your stuff in order.
