Hubby got his visa almost 2 weeks to the date from Montreal (Feb 2016, not sure if visa turn around has increased/decreased since). As much as we wanted to buy the plane tickets the moment we got the "approved" at the interview, like everyone has said, don't. You never know if for some reason they stick you in AP.
However, if you & your fiance want to reduce the financial burden of the flights (because crossing the border automatically increases your flights), I would suggest that you drive across the border, and fly out from the next closest airport. My hubby lived in the GTA, so he drove across the border and flew out of Buffalo. This works really well if you can get a ride across the border - also then you don't have to worry about missing your flight because you got stuck at customs in pre-clearance. It took him about 35 min to cross the border. Just a thought for flight alternatives since Canada is fairly unique in this aspect.
Good luck at your interview!

Hubby did POE in February, they took the medical disks and whatnot out of its package, but no idea if they sent it off or if it collects dust in their desks. Regardless, we haven't been in possession of the information since POE.
When Hubs did his medical in TO, he was given a DS3025 by the doctor which was outside of the packet and received the day he did the medical (i.e. before he got the packet). If you're missing the DS3025, you'll need to find a Civil Surgeon in your area after you POE who will a) transcribe your vax record b) not rip you off. We sent in the DS3025 with an explanation in the cover letter why we didn't send in a 693 and they seemed to be happy with that since his GC is in the mail.
Here's the thing, you can submit without the I-693 and explain you had a valid medical performed on XYZ date and send a copy of your vax record if you want to try and save the money. They are supposed to have a record of your medical from your K1 process, but this is USCIS, so they might not have it. If they find your Vax copy insufficient or if they don't have that medical on file, you'll have to do the Civil Surgeon route anyway and you'll either send that in a RFE response or bring it to your interview (varies by person/officer).
In the meantime, I'd rummage through your K1 stuff and see if you can find it. I didn't even realize that the receipt Hubby got from the doctor was an official DS3025 until after we sent the copy in.
HTH and good luck!

I would request an original since the Embassy can ask for an original at any time. Keep your copy they sent to you on file, but definitely request the original to be sent to you.
Worst case, you have it and they don't ask for it - I'll take that any day!

I don't know about CA, but in FL to get the learner's, you didn't need the EAD/AP card, we just had to show we filed for AOS. We brought in our NOA and the marriage certificate, and now my husband has a 1 year learner's. I'd call your DMV to see what the requirements are.

My husband is also learning to drive - he's 23 and technically he had his G1 in Canada, but that doesn't translate to anything down here (especially since it expired while we were at University). He just took his Florida Learner's test and he was asking me questions to see where I stood. I've been on the road for 8 years and there were some things I have forgot or don't know the exact law on...Anywho, we're getting him started on proper driving lessons since it's been 7 years for him since he had a lesson.
OP, if it helps you feel better, my mother was also from Toronto and didn't learn how to drive until she was 31 (about 6 months before she had me). She only got her license when she promised her tester that she would NEVER parallel park...she holds that promise to this day

Since you have your case number, you can check your status (Processing, Sent to Consulate, Received, etc.) on this link: https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx (I don't remember where I found this link, but it's in my notes and much less of a pain than phoning NVC).
As always,
- they've got all the information for the NVC and next steps for the whole process. But in the meantime, you & your beneficiary need to prep your forms & materials for Packets 3, 4 & the interview.
Good luck!

We did something similar - I came up to Canada at Christmas (with interview in Feb) and filled in the I-134 & Letter of Intent. Our I-134 was dated about 1.5 months prior to our interview and it didn't seem to be an issue. Since the letter of intent needs to be dated within 30 days of the interview and you don't have your interview date yet, if you don't think you'll be down to Venezuela again before his interview, I would make 1 for each month around when you think the interview will be (which of course can be all over the place, so personally I'd do one for each month over a year span, but I'm neurotic haha). Super worst case, you could send down a new batch to him when you find out the interview date if all other letters are out of date.
Good luck!

Haha ok to be ultra clear:
Copies of taxes are fine. No original signatures needed here.
Affadavit of support needs original signatures - don't bring copies! Have the forms mailed to you if necessary.
-
Ah my bad! You don't need to bring any tax info, just the petitioner and his/her joint sponsor's tax info.
Also, don't forget you'll need their original signatures on the I-134's - you would not believe how many people we saw at the Consulate who didn't have those original signatures and were then thrown into AP purgatory.
-
Since you're doing the K1, you only need the I-134 and supporting documentation for you & the joint sponsor.
When I went to the Consulate (though I went to Montreal, but I don't think it would be different in Van), I supplied a copy of my 2014 Tax return as I had done mine on the computer. Didn't notarize mine either.
Your forms & supporting documentation should be enough, but make sure you bring along your letter of intent!
Good luck

My fiance will be coming in the next few weeks on K1 and I'm moving back home this weekend before we start the AOS process. Originally he was going to stay with me and move down together, but with my travel schedule for work, it made more sense for me to move down prior to his arrival.
So just a few questions:
* Will it matter if the address is different from all the other paperwork? When I submitted the I-134 it had my soon-to-be-old address on it. I'm assuming he can update the address at POE.
* Is there a specific form to update the address on the I-134 (like the I-864) or is it just through the generic USCIS update address page?
Thank you all in advance!

My family has requested that my fiance (beneficiary) sign a prenup - we've talked about it at length and he's OK with it.
Will a prenup cause any problems with our K1/AOS/ROC workflow? Not sure how it looks to have a pre-nup, or if that is even considered by the government. We got our K1 NOA2 last week (YAY) so we want to make sure we don't do anything that would undo the approval.
Thanks!

Hi VJers!
My fiance and I are getting all our proof together in the coming days, and I realized that there is a strong possibility of me moving during the process (I currently live with a roommate and we won't be renewing our lease). I will be having the notifications and paperwork sent to my family's permanent address so I'm not concerned about that. Does it matter if my fiance's "Intended Address to Live" will change during the K1 process?
I feel like it doesn't matter, but hoping the sage advice from others can calm my nerves.
Thank you!

Hi guys! Just submitted our package today, arriving Friday. I'm about 6 weeks behind thanks to friends affadavits taking a while and getting a dog...we should have filed May 8, but better late than never right??
Not going to lie, I do not miss this process. Here's to another year (?) of USCIS paperwork! Good luck and speedy reviews to everyone!
