  1. Another one that keeps her maiden name here. I do this mainly for practicality purposes, I have some diplomas and documents from my country under my maiden name that I will use here in US and it's just too much trouble if I change my name. I like my maiden name and I do like my hubby's last name, but keeping my name as it is makes more sense for now. It doesn't mean that I don't love him as much nor that I don't want people to know that we're married. Hell, people can know that you are married and flirt with you anyway... everything depends on the individuals IMO.

  2. Root canal for which tooth ? Molars cost more than the ones in the front because they have two roots instead of just one. I got one done for my molar, the dentist charged me around $600 for it and insurance covers 70%. Crown is more expensive and also covered less with our insurance.

Your $4000 estimate is bit high I think, but I guess as you live in CA, everything there is more expensive than here in MN :P Try shop around and see what other dentists say.

  3. Other option is send the stuff using USPS. More risky, but almost no charge to the receiver. Hubby sent me webcam using USPS when I was still back in Jakarta, it arrived safely in 10 days and I only had to pay around Rp 4,000 (40 cents USD).

Sending package using FedEx, UPS, DHL will always cost the receiver a fee. I think they called it "importation" fee, the amount depends on what type of things that you send. Cost me around $4 when hubby sent stuffed animals (3 of them), I believe more valuable things will cost more.

  4. Cannot wait to see the last book released !! I like the fifth book the best (yes, it's the thickest one of all so far :P ), I like the way she depicts battles between wizards and how they threw spells at each other :D I wish I could do that to my boss once in a while, that would be funny ...

  5. Dental insurance can be "tricky". Hubby has Delta Dental through his employer (and I believe Delta Dental doesn't cater to individuals), pays about $15 a month for family coverage, we get $1000 max per year per person. It covers 80-100% for basic treatments (teeth cleaning, fillings, root canals, etc) providing we use in-network dentists and only 50% for major thing such as crown. It's quite a good deal I think, considering my teeth are bad :P

Starting this month I get coverage through my employer who doesn't charge me anything but only give $1000 per year for the whole family.

If it costs you $50 a month, then I agree that it isn't worth it if you only need routine procedures. It might worth it for major things.

  6. get a air horn for a boat mounted outside your door...when shes out there yapping a single blast will undoubtedly send her scurrying for some dry undies...

My neighbour upstairs often throw cigarette's butts down into our deck, very irritating especially since neither my husband or I smoke ...

  7. JMHO, but from what I can see, it's a lot easier if you're a white immigrant.

Agree with that also. As an Asian myself, I've never had any problems with neighbours, people at work, etc, but I've heard some of my ex-coworkers cursing about the "mexicans" and that "they are all illegals and trying to steal our jobs", etc. I've also heard of some places that don't want to rent/sell to "non-white" people, and we did get some "reactions" from our prospective landlord once when hubby was exploring other job options in another town. He made the calls and everything, then we both went there to see the place and you can just kind of tell that the woman was a bit "allergic" to immigrants, non-white one to be exact.
