  1. update:

Hi, everyone, so after around two months waiting, i finally took my oath ceremony on October 14 2015 and i became the US citizen. yeah~~

The entire ceremony took more than 4 hours to complete, which was too long and the room was freezing. But i finally made it to the end. I was very happy and proud of myself. I think there were more than 100 people took their ceremony. The room was fully packed. Everyone was happy when they got the certificat. Good luck everyone

  2. Call again and talk to someone else. They should be able to see and tell you what date you are scheduled for.

i call them this afternoon and required to speak with a supervisor. However, the supervisor tells me that he does not have ability to access my file, so he is only able to tell me that my oath letter has been mailed out. If i want to get more information, i have to make an infopass and directly talk to my local uscis office.

i feel the uscis customer service is so useless. Every time, i ask for help, they just repeat the same thing as i check my case online or "sorry, you have to wait. there is nothing i can do for you"

My case also says ready, but we cant schedule our appointment until we get packet 3, its been a week since the embassy received my application and no sign of packet 3, my status update on ceac has said ready since 8/25/2015 and now it says status updated on 10/01/2015 I don't know what they updated it too it still says ready

i think you have to do infopass

  3. Hi, every one

last time i post a topic about i missed my oath ceremony because the uscis messed up my appointment. After around two months waiting, my case was finally updated on October 1 and the new ceremony was mailed . However, there is a new problem coming out.

last time, when i checked my case statue online. It showed that my oath ceremony letter was mailed on August 4 and expected to receive before September 13. However, the ceremony was scheduled on August 12, which was the exact time as i received the letter. So i totally missed it.

Now, the case statue showed that the letter was mailed on October 1 and expected to receive it before October 31. So my question is: When will the Oath ceremony usually be held. Will the ceremony be held after October 31 because applicants have enough time to receive the letter or the October 31 is just a random day. The oath ceremony could be held any day between October 1 and 30 because my first ceremony was held on August 12.

I just called USCIS and ask to speak with their supervisor. The man tells me that usually the oath ceremony will be held after whenever the deadline is, i mean the deadline for receiving the letter. I am not sure it is true due to my first oath ceremony.

can anyone share their experience. I am afraid that i will miss it again. thanks

  4. Try calling and seeing if they can re-send it to you in the form of an email. Is your house in a confusing area or other street names are very similar? For some reason it's not being delivered properly

it is good question. Normally i do not really pay attention because i do not have very important letters mailed to my house. I will check my mailbox everyday, but i do not care to how long will these letters take to mail to my house. Meanwhile, i usually receive my packages if i use this address as a shipping address, So i am not sure if it is the address issue.

  5. Did you change your address without notifying them? What address do they have on file for you? You may need to have this letter emailed to you.

i do not change my address. it is the same address i used during the application.

sometimes, i feel i need to change my address in order to receive my letter faster. i have another mailing address in post office. Should i change to it?

  6. You only need the infopass apt if you don't receive a new letter with a new ceremony date...right? I'd wait 3-4 weeks until you really need to make that appt. We had to reschedule my daughter's ceremony and she had a new date in about 4 weeks.

thanks for responding. so the normally waiting period should be around 4 weeks to receive the reschedule appointment letter.

the uscis update the new information for my case on August 13 and says that the conformation letter was mailed to my house due to my absence. but i havent received any letter from them yet. and i mailed my letter to uscis office on August 13 and i just check my letter statue. It shows that my letter has already been delivered to that place. i feel so weird because my letter is first class mail and only spend around three days on the way while the uscis letter takes forever to deliever to my house, which just like the oath ceremony appointment letter. so weired

  7. Depending on your office, you might want to make the InfoPass appointment now for as far out as you think is needed. For Cincinnati, I had the ability to make an InfoPass only a few days in advance though I think I made it about a week or more out. For busier offices they may not have available times for weeks out. Best to have an appointment and cancel than to need the appointment and not be able to get in for three or more weeks.

thank you so much. i will check the availability for my local office now

Hi, i just went online to make an infopass. However, it says that " At this time, there are no information appointments available for the office in your area. Please try back again later". i try to make an apt for case processing appointment and case services follow-up appointment, but none of them work. it only shows that no information apt available for the office in my area. so what should i do now. can i call to make an apt

  8. The envelope was not important, don't worry. You know when you received it and you've stated that in your letter to them. You've done exactly the right thing and you have a back-up plan (an infopass appt) in case you don't hear anything in a few weeks.

Thanks so much. For the infopass apt, do I need to make an apt now or few weeks later. because i am not sure when i will receive the respond. If i receive the respond before the infopass apt, will i am able to cancel the infopass apt.

  9. Look on your envelope that uscis had sent you and look for the postmark date on your envelope. Zerox the envelope and send it back with the oath letter to uscis and once again explain that you received the letter on the same day as your oath was supposed to be. Good luck.

i already mail the letter yesterday, but i did not attach the envelop they mailed to me. i thought it is not important.

i think now i just need to wait for their responds. if i do not get it within the next weeks, i will do infopass

    thanks

  10. At this point, you've already done your due diligence. Showing up to the oath ceremony with a 50% chance of being let in is risky to say the least. Even if you are let in, it could confuse things, which is the last thing you want in the final stage of your journey. And you brought up a great point, if you're not on the list, I highly doubt you'll get your certificate the same day. Just be patient and wait for your SCHEDULED ceremony.

i think now the most important thing for me is to be patient. Do not over thinking and over stress. Giving the uscis a little bit of time to process my case. If i do not get any respond after September 2, i think i need to make an infopass or call USCIS again.

    thanks for your advises

  11. don't worry the same thing happened with my wife few weeks a go and we were all so scared but when you miss the first one they automatically reschedule you for a second oath ceremony like a month later just make sure that you check the status on line it will say that we have mailed you the date of the oath ceremony when you see that message on line wait one week and make info pass appointment at your local uscis office that send you the letter and explain to the officer that you already missed your oath ceremony once and due to mail issues you don't want to miss it again just ask them for the copy of the letter with the oath date and time they will print it for you keep it as a back up if you receive the other one in the mail good if not you will have the print out from the office they will accept it your fine don't worry

Hi, thanks for responding and congratulation to your wife. she made it and there is no more waiting

after i missed the first ceremony, i check my case statue everyday because i think uscis will update new information on it. however, the statue did not update at all. it stills says that your oath ceremony letter has been mailed. so i am not sure when they are going to send the second oath letter. will they update the new deadline because now on the website, the deadline is September 2 for the old appointment.

and i feel sad now. it seems like i mess up the steps. i already mail the explanation letter. This morning i tried so hard to get everything done and rush to post office and mail my letter. i even late for my work. I am not sure what i need to do now since i already mail the letter before they update new information in my case. Do i need to wait and see what is going to happen or make an infopass.

  12. First, don't freak out :-) You haven't lost anything except time.

You can take the steps others have outlined (making appointments, calling), but almost certainly even if you do nothing, you will get a letter that says "You missed your oath ceremony... We've rescheduled you for another one, and here's the date/time: ______" This new scheduled time will likely be around 1 month after the last appointment (probably September 2nd or September 9th - usually on a Wednesday).

If you're in a hurry, try showing up NEXT Wednesday (August 19th) at the same location and time. Bring the letter, and everything with you as described in the letter. When you arrive, explain to the guard what happened. There is a good chance they will let you in and you will be able to take your oath as normal. This is a process that happens every Wednesday (and some Saturdays) for many people, and your situation is very common.

Good luck and please post an update when you get your Certificate of Naturalization so we can congratulate you!

EDIT: I see now you've already sent your letter back. That's unfortunate but not the end of the world. You can still try going next Wednesday with your copy and explain that you mailed it back in a panic. You probably have a 50% chance of success, depending on the guard and how nice you are :-)

thank you so much for responding and advising me. because i do lots of researches yesterday and i call the uscis twice. it seems that returning the letter is the only way to reschedule the appointment. meantime, i am so worried about my case because i am the first person who have this kind issues around me, so i cannot ask my friends or families for help. I feel that i should let the USCIS knows as soon as possible so that they can reschedule my appointment fast. i do not want my case to be closed or forever delayed.

you mention about the next week ceremony. i have question about it. because during the ceremony, they are giving the citizen certificate out, which provide that you are a citizen. since i am not on the list, will i am able to get the citizen certificate if they allow me to participate.

  13. I would see if an INFOpass appointment is available and go and talk to them in person. I would not want to send the original letter to them but a copy the letter, the envelope it arrived in for the postmark, and a letter of explanation, but I would go the INFOpass method if one is available soon.

    Dave

It is too late, I already mail my letter this morning with initial oath form. I thought I need to mail the initial form, copy one does not court. And I already call the uscis twice, both representatives say that I need to mail the explanation letter and request to reschedule an appointment. Hopefully everything works out
  14. This exact thing happened to my uncle. Because of a snow storm in NYC, the mail wasn't delivered until the afternoon on the day his oath ceremony was scheduled. He went to the address listed but it was already closed. He called USCIS and sent a letter explaining what happened. They said they usually give you three tries to attend an oath ceremony, after which, you will have to do the whole citizenship process over again. They scheduled a new oath ceremony about a month later so he was able to attend the second time around.

thanks so much for replying. I just mail my explanation letter this morning. Hopefully I explain thing clearly so that they can reschedule my appointment as soon as possible. This application takes forever to finish

  15. Hi, everyone

i missed my oath ceremony yesterday by accident. so i am going to write an explanation letter to USCIS, but i am not sure if it is a right way to explain it or if this letter makes sense to other people. Any advises will be helpful for me. thank you

    Re: Oath Ceremony for N-400

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing in regards to my oath ceremony. I received my oath ceremony letter on the same day as the oath ceremony appointment. The ceremony was scheduled on August 12 at 8:30 am while I received the letter on August 12 around 3 pm. Thus, I am not able to attend the oath ceremony because I already missed the appointment while I received the letter.

I know this can be an oversight so therefore, I am asking you to reschedule this appointment for me so I may have the chance to take the oath. I look forward in hearing from you as soon as possible.

    Yours Truly,

    my name

  16. Exactly. But you're doing everything right, you asked for help on here, and you're getting things moving. If you waited a week or two I would say you're out of luck. But there is still time now. Definitely call tomorrow to get some reassurance that this won't negatively affect your chances.

You can go to your local post office and they will set you up with tracking for the cheapest possible. But it will be more expensive than regular mail. And of course you can use fedex or ups or another courier that has tracking.

i will. really appreciate your help

  17. I would try once more tomorrow, ask to speak to a supervisor, or someone higher than that (not sure of the exact title). If you do send them a letter, I would definitely make sure it has tracking. Your oath ceremony i'm sure is one of the most important things in your life right now! But don't worry, it wasn't your fault, you will be fine.

you are right. if i do not attend the oath ceremony, they will not consider i am a U.S. citizen. and all i have done by now will be pointless.

so when i mail the letter, i need to buy a tracking number right? thank you so much for helping

  18. When you called USCIS, what exactly did you say? Did you only say you missed the ceremony with no explanation as to why? They might be able to reschedule over phone?

i did explain the situation to the officer. i tell him that i received the oath ceremony letter today around 3 pm. however, they schedule the appointment today at 8:30 am. so i totally missed the appointment. i said i ma not sure what to do next and ask him if he is able to reschedule an appointment for me. but the officer says he is not allowed to it and tell me to send the explanation letter to the local office.

should i need to call them again because at that time, i was so nervous. maybe he did not really understand me

  19. i don't get? you received the letter on the day of the oath? obviously that's not your fault, were you checking the status online?

yup, i receive the letter on the same day. i do check my case statue. it says that if i do not receive the letter by September 2, i can ask for another copy. i check my mailbox everyday since they update the status, but i do not receive it until today. i thought my oath will be after September 2 because the interview was scheduled one month after the deadline

  20. You are not the first this has happened to. Right a letter explaining what happened and mail it back to the address it has listed.

so i need to send the letter with explanation immediately. because i saw some people say that after they missed the oath appointment, USCIS send them another letter and tell them what to do next. by the way, i am not sure which address i need to send the letter to. The address i am going to take oath ceremony or the address on the top of envelop that i received.

English is my second language, i am not sure how to explain the situation politely or in the right way

  21. Wait --- You received the letter in the mail after the oath ceremony had already passed? Can you please give a better explanation?

If that is the case, then obviously they messed up by giving you the wrong appointment date?

they update the status on August 5. after that day, i keep checking my mailbox, but i do not receive the letter until today. i think either the USCIS or post office mess up, but i am not sure how to fix it. i am so worried about it now. and i do not think there is a way to provide that i receive the letter on August 12
