Today is a happy day!! My husband was able to pick up his CR-1 visa at the Johannesburg consulate today. It was been a long process and we are grateful to God and all our family and friends who prayed for us. It was a long process, but I know there are others who have been in it longer than we have, and I urge you all to keep at it, don't give up. I wish everyone success and happiness.

If you can, try and get a cell phone even if its a prepay. Make sure you have ample time loaded and try and call yourself, just as the previous posts say, keep hitting redial until you get through. Best wishes!

My husband and I were married in South Africa in a civil ceremony. However, we also has a church ceremony the next day, but our marriage certificate lists the date of the civil ceremony. I first went to the SSA and requested a new card with my married name with no issue. Went I got my new card, I next went to the DMV and got a new driver's license and after that I changed my bank accounts, my lease and at work. I did call my local registrar to see if I needed to register my marriage, but they said it was not required - I live in Wisconsin. I had no problems and I only had to show our marriage certificate at the SSA.
